You burn calories in 3 main ways:
* your metabolism, or what you burn just keeping your natural body functions ticking over. For most people, this is between 1300 and 1900 calories per day (google 'BMR calculator' to get a better fix on this number for you)
* normal daily non-exercise activities - this is generally reckoned at 20% in addition to your BMR
* what you burn through deliberate exercise.
So you should be burning more than 1550 per day, even before exercise. Exercise is normally only a small component of your overall burn - it is significant not because it is big, but rather it is really the only thing you can readily change to affect your overall burn.
The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.
