I've used LS videos off and on for quite a while. What I like is
--I can 'step it up' as I get fitter. My HRM shows I'm definitely in the cardio zone for the majority of the time (but then, I'm not a marathon runner, or anything outstanding--Coach Nicole, in her review of one of the dvds couldn't get her hr into cardio--but she's fitter than I've been in decades).

--I can make it fit my schedule

--If my shoulders are good, I can add the upper-body (which, btw, is not enough to count as 'weight' or resistance, BUT can help boost a sluggish heart rate in a hurry). If my shoulders aren't good, I leave that out because, for me, the best thing is...

--the exercises are fully adjustable.

They can be "enough" cardio for many people; if you want personal specifics, get and use a good hrm.

I'm thinking she means to get fit or lose weight or both in my case. emoticon

1 Are Leslie Sanson's workouts enough cardio?

Enough cardio for what? That depends on your goals, fitness level, and individual preferences. For me, no. For you, maybe.

2 Is there enough of a variety in the workouts?

See #1.

3 Do you burn enough calories?

Enough calories for what? For weight loss, you adjust diet to exercise... not the other way around. You do the amount of exercise you want/need for good health and can maintain, then adjust your calories so that you can support that exercise while maintaining a healthy calorie deficit for your weight loss (which also depends on your weight... someone at 100 lbs overweight can lose more and maintain larger deficits than someone only 10 lbs overweight.)

Hello,

I just did Leslie Sansomes', Just Walk Ultimate 5 Day Walk Plan video this morning. She has a walk for each day of the week, Monday thru Friday. Mon is a 3 mile walk and abs session(50.05 minutes), Tuesday 3 mile walk and arms session(1.02.24), Wednesday 1 mile walk and legs session(24.44), Thursday 2 mile walk and chest and back session (37.12) and Friday, this is the longest walk, 5 mile walk and full body stretch(1:14.18). I love this video because you can mix and match based on what you want to do for the day. The possibilities are endless. Good luck:)

I have done Leslie's DVD's and always get my heart rate up. They are great for cardio, you might want to try some of Spark's 10 minute strength training videos to add to it!

I love the Walk Away the Pounds workouts. I have several. I love mixing them up each week so you really get a good all over workout. I use the weights, stretchy bands and intervals.

She has tons of videos of varying length and intensity. Don't forget to change it up every so often.

I've been using a bunch of Leslie's videos as I've been losing weight over the past several months. I did have back pain at first. I got some better shoes and learned to stretch more. Also, my form has greatly improved, including that tummy tuck she is ALWAYS talking about. It really does make a difference to keep your core engaged.

I think they're a great workout. I'm in much better shape than I was last time I was at this weight, when traditional walking was my main form of exercise.

1) how many calories does it burn?

That will depend on your weight. Enter it into the tracker! There's an entry for "walk away the pounds". A good rule of thumb is roughly 100 calories per mile, so you can safely assume this will burn about 200 calories. That will change based on your intensity and weight, of course, but that's a good estimate.

2) someone told me doing these videos is bad for back pain. Is this true?

That depends. If you have poorly fitting shoes, or poor form, it could exacerbate existing issues, but it all depends on the cause of back pain. Your doctor is the person to ask before starting ANY exercise program if you're dealing with chronic pain of any sort. He or she can give you advice and clearance on what you should or shouldn't do.

3) Is this a good alternative to half an hour on the elliptical?

They're different exercises, really. Exercise's value lies in its enjoyment. One is not better than the other... because while running is one of the highest-calorie-burning exercises out there, but if you hate it or can't do it, what good does it do?

Variety is the spice of life. Change it up, do different things, and don't think of exercise in terms of "better" or "worse." Do what you enjoy, and you'll find you're more likely to stick with it! Adjust your diet to your exercise... not the other way around.

it's about the 30 minute, 2 mile walking video. For those interested, you can find it on youtube.
