I also decided that going to the gym was not for me - I'd almost always find an excuse not to go, whether it was a long hard day at work (it usually is!) or other stresses from daily life that I would somehow spin into a big excuse not to show up at the gym.
I finally realized that for me the thing that fits my lifestyle best is to wake up an hour earlier and work out before I go to work. And this has totally changed everything! By the time I'm done with my workout I feel so energized, I have time to make myself a real breakfast and pack my lunch and snacks for work. My day is often a lot more bearable as well. Ironically, the stresses that used to make me not want to go to the gym have now disappeared and I could potentially go to the gym after work now if I still had my membership!
It's much cheaper as well - I go for a run 3-4 times a week, and alternate that with yoga to stretch out my muscles on the remaining days, so that I don't experience soreness etc.
I don't know how practical it would be to do that when you have 2 kids, but it might be do-able!
Alternatively, you could do regular activities with your boys like putting up a basketball hoop somewhere outside your house and playing with them a few times a week! That way you can have even more quality time with them - and possibly learn a new sport!!
Whatever you decide, it should be something that is easily accessible to you - you don't need to add more stress to your life by thinking about gyms and coaches and all that! Good luck :-)
