Unless I have a race I'm training for, I definitely work towards intensity. Shorter, intense workouts (in my experience) still help me do long hikes (6-10 miles) while just working out for a specific length of time doesn't really help me when I want to do something more intense heart rate-wise.

I think the intensity is very important but any exercise is better than none!

I think they're both important, but agree that your objectives should guide your goals. Personally, I go for intensity AND duration, although if it's a shorter day, I make sure to amp up the intensity a lot.

It depends on your objectives.

But generally speaking, when starting out, you should work on increasing your duration. Once you get to the point where you can comfortably work out for 30-40 minutes, you are better off adding more intensity, rather than more time.

Also, strength training should be part of any exercise program. Once you get to woking out 30 minutes 3 times per week, your next step should be adding ST to your program, rather than more cardio.

What is more important the length you exercise or the intensity?
