It's now been a month since I signed up for a personal trainer and I noticed that on my 3rd session which was on the 2nd week, I started loving strength training. I think it helped a lot that my personal trainer is an accomplished body builder. When I asked her if I can ever look like her, she said "yes", as long as I do what she tells me to do.

Since then, I've been loving it and loving it more now that I can feel my arms are firmer. I see my PT twice a week but I do the machines on my own three times a week.

I'm slowly increasing the weight now as I noticed that the old weights does not have the same effect on me as I started. I noticed that I'm craving for that muscle pain that I used to feel when I first started this and the only way I think I could feel that again is by increasing the weight...gotta go google it. :P

Always enjoyed it, but started to *love* it when I realized I was lifting heavier than 90% of the women at the gym. All ego, I admit it. The other *love* factor was when I realized how much easier life was - lugging groceries, laundry, whatever was so much easier.

Pray to God, but row for shore.

After the first week, my arms started to look really nice! After that, it was motivating to look good in tank tops and not have flabby arms.

I fell in love with ST because it made me appreciate the divinity of the human body. I mean, God created this beautiful work of art! Learning about the different muscle groups, what they do, how they work, seeing the human muscle map just intensified my passion for it

ST instills discipline, courage, focus, and drive--all which I can use in everyday living.I hope to get my PT cert and compete one day. God bless.

When I realized I loved feeling strong. Plus all of the other benefits. Plus I have a great trainer who has become my friend. Thru her coaching I was able to correct a number of things and I can really tell the difference. Yes, it's hard work and always will be. But it's worth it.

I used to adore cardio (crazy I know lol!) but over the last few years my ability to do cardio has dwindled to basically nothing because of a silly condition called fibromyalgia that stops me from, well... doing anything. I've never liked strength training, hated it in fact (prob because of the pain it caused due to the fibro) but I've found out that doing low impact strength training will help my condition and help me be human again.... if it starts to work then I'm the biggest fan of strength training ever! Bring it on, Yay!! emoticon

I LOVE the way strength training makes me feel! Don't get me wrong, if you're doing it right...it's hard work! But so worth it.

Doing it right means constantly increasing your weights as you grow stronger, so yes, it's a constant challenge, not just going through the motions for half an hour.

When did I start to love it? I don't! But putting in 30 minutes 3x per week strength training is easily the best thing I've ever done for my health. I have muscles and I'm toned! I have obliques! I didn't even know what those were until I started strength training.

I still hate strength training, but I realized, that lifting heavy made me so sensitive to sugar (increasing muscle mass makes you more sensitive to insulin) that I just didn't want to eat sweet things anymore.

I now have a sweet tooth again, and it's because my muscles have atrophied so much.

I have to go back and do some heavy lifting because the benefits are just so enormous.

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.

It's hard to love it as much as running but I love it because the results really show! After I did P90X I had really good results and it really helped me to feel more fit and healthy. Also reading so many articles about its benefits and calorie-torching all throughout the day has really helped me to love it. Some days it's just not fun to do but on those days I remember previous results I have had and it motivates me to keep going.

I have really learned to enjoy yoga; the relaxing feeling I get and the peace really appeal to me. And I can really visualize my muscles and body lengthening and strengthening. Never thought I'd be a fan - but on my "off" days - its a great way to feel like I've given myself a rest and still done something good for my body ;)

Stronger every day!

I'm not sure I will ever love strength training as much as I love running. That being said, I've learned the hard way that no strength training + lots of running = injury. I cut back my strength this time last year and increased my mileage and then I suffered an injury that put me out for a solid 12 weeks - unable to hardly even go for a walk not to mention a run. I'm just now starting to get back into running. So...because I love to run I make myself do some strength. I don't like your standard weight lifting so I use Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper workouts which are a great combo of strength, core, and cardio. And... I will admit that I LOVED how toned I looked when I was running and doing strength regularly so that is motivating for me too. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Jack LaLane and I have something in common. We both dislike lifting weights! However he did it every day for over 70 years, and I start and stop about 5 times a year for the last twenty!

I still don't like lifting weights. They are heavy, and it is boring, even with music playing. The only way I can workout in a weight room three days a week is with group support such as a class, or with a personal trainer, but the latter is very expensive.

But I absolutely LOVE the results!!! I am now age 55, and will keep it up the rest of my life!

I really started to love it when I saw some muscles starting to define themselves on my arms! And doing hardcore ST at the gym makes me feel tough, like I can beat people up. :) I'd suggest finding a long term program that has you use heavy weights. I get the most satisfaction from that! I'm following the program from the book "New Rules of Lifting for Women" and I really like it so far!

And it's fun to tell people that you are doing a lifting program. And it's fun to walk into the free weights section and (pretend like you) know what you're doing. And it's fun to eat the amount of calories they recommend for a muscle building program. :)

***Chara***

It will hurt. It will take time. It will require dedication. It will require willpower. You will need to make healthy decisions. It requires sacrifice. You will need to push your body to its max. There will be temptation. But, I promise you, when you reach your goal, IT'S WORTH IT.

I have always had a love/hate relationship but it wasn't until I found aerobic conditioning in my 20's that I really started to appreciate the natural high you get and how it makes every day feel good!

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.

I think I've always loved strength training. I started working out in my teens and used The Firm and Gilad, workouts that combined strength training and cardio. Now, as I get closer to 40, I really love strength training because I can wave without my arms slapping me in the face and my curves are still in the right place.

I actually laughed out loud when I saw the title of this topic. I HATE strength training. Despise it. Abhor it. Loathe it. Detest it. Enough synonyms? You get the picture.

However, I feel about swimming the same way the original poster and many others say they feel about running. I run also, but not to that degree, and I bike. I could swim for hours and hours a week and never get tired of it. I've lost inches, my arms, legs and core are stronger, my clothes fit better, and I look and feel better. (Which, BTW, sounds like the very same benefits many of you say you get from strength training)

I've tried to like strength training. I really have. I've joined challenges, taken classes, had trainers design programs for me. I've used machines, free weights, and my own body weight. You name it, I've done it. I've gotten into debates about the merits of strength training and about how you should just do it whether you like it or not because it's good for you. And I don't buy it.

My point is, if you like it, then go for it. But if you don't, then why force yourself? I know that I am not going to stick with something I dislike that much. It's a waste of my time and I'm going to get resentful that I'm spending my limited workout time doing something I dislike when I could jump in a pool and have a much more rewarding workout.

The first time I ever stepped into a gym and got on a Nautilus machine... 1981. Have loved strength training and the feeling of fitness and power it gives me ever since.

Love is like a friendship caught on fire. In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable.

i think ive always liked it but i didnt love it till i was applying for a job and was trying to figure out if i could lift the weight it required it was heavy but it wasent a struggle and when i went back to my strength routine it was easy so every once and a while i lift a heavy weight for just a few reps then i go back to my usual weight and it seems to be easier. i just feel so grrrr strong like hulk lol

i just started about 3 weeks but iam having issues figuring out a routine a little lost on that part of it.
