Often, treadmills are calibrated for a man's body. Even if you enter your weight, it reports calories of a man at that weight. SP looks at the whole picture- your weight, gender, height. Always go with spark.

Height: 5' 11"
Starting weight: 228
Ultimate goal: 180-170

Currently working and going to grad school. Given my stress level and time constraints (and with my doctor's blessing), I'm not trying to lose a lot of weight, just be healthy and not gain. Once I get my degree I'll pick things up again.

That's good info to know! I had noticed the difference between SP, the treadmill and/or elliptical, and even my Fitocracy app. Thank you!!

The more factors that go into determining the number of calories burned, the better. Some treadmills have you input weight, some don't. SP factors in weight and gender. Another option would be a heartrate monitor which would factor in weight, gender, and heartrate. That being said, the more accurate of the two (between the treadmill and SP) is SP.

Hi,

I was just wondering if someone could help me. When I walk on the treadmill it tells me how many calories I have burned and it always seems to be different then the calories burned on sparkpeople. I was wondering how I would know which one is correct or which one I should go by?
Thanks for all the help!
