You've already answered your own question.
"I know it's impossible to "spot reduce" but I have developed a serious problem with excess fat right above my knees, which began in my mid-40's. Now I'm in my 50's and it's getting worse. Any ideas on how to target his area?"
You know you can't spot reduce, then you ask us how to do so. ;) It's not possible, because fat loss is a total body process. Where you lose is primarily determined by genetics, so no exercise or dietary change is going to target your knees for fat loss. This is because your muscles draw their energy from the bloodstream... not the surrounding fat stores.
