I live in a small town and their gym's schedule doesn't work well with my long work days. I've been using a lot free online workout videos lately. I like several sites, but my favorite by far is FitnessBlender.com. You can choose a workout by type (cardio, strength, etc.), muscle groups, or search for specific terms (HIIT, toning, boot camp, etc.).

Workouts range from 5 minutes to 1 1/2 hours, and all of them are ranked by level of difficulty (1-5, and some of their beginner workouts can kick my butt). In addition, every workout description estimates the # of calories you'll burn, so you can track it here on Spark People! And there are TONS of videos on their site.

I'm excited for spring, too! Hope you find some fun workouts to tide you over!

Do you want high impact, or low impact? Also, how long do you want the sessions to last?

There are a ton of great videos on this site and youtube, fitness blender, be fit in 90, etc that you can access for free. If you aren't into DvDs, then turn up some music and dance, or try things like Zumba or Just Dance (available for the Wii, and Xbox, I believe).

If you aren't into that sort of thing at all, create your own cardio interval routine. Something like this:

Marching in place - 90 seconds
Jogging in place 45 seconds
Running in place 30 seconds (full run)

Butt kickers 90 seconds
Jumping Jacks 45 seconds
"Jump rope" 30 seconds

Cardio punches jabs - 90 seconds
Cross (or hooks) 45 seconds
Upper Cuts 30 seconds

Front snap kick 90 seconds
Back kick 45 seconds
Roundhouse kick 30 seconds

Muay Thai Knee Thrusts 90 seconds
Mountain Climbers 45 seconds
Burpees 30 seconds

Mix and match these and/or other cardio moves. Throw in some things like pushups, crunches, super mans, planks, and lunges between each cardio set (I'd recommend doing sets of twelve.) To allow yourself to catch your breath.

The point of intervals is to make sure that on the 30 second intervals you push it hard to get maximum after burn results.

I have an old Zumba tape that i do part of--not enough stamina for ALL of it, but it works. I do squats as I brush my teeth and blowdry my hair and get a little dancing in. The Libary is also a great source, as suggested.

Use a water container with a proper handle, fill it with water and use it as a kettlebell. Great way to burn the fat away in half an hour (ok, may be 40mins is better).

When I don't feel like getting outside, I either put on some favorite music and dance or do the Walk-a-way the pounds. I really don't need to put video in for either of these but feel as though I get good exercise with either one.

I use Sparkpeople videos that just require dumbbells, resistance bands which you can follow even if you don't have the equipment. I also have a treadmill that comes in handy when there are temp extremes.

I love zumba fitness 2 on my wii, dvds like taebo, insanity and dance dvds. My cable provider also has videos "on demand" ranging from weight training to dance to yoga and cardio, etc. I also just throw my own thing together by doing squats, lunges, push ups, crunches, jog in place, jump rope, lift weights, dance. I also have a staircase so I run up and down that.

I will be where I want to be one day, but I'm the only one who can make it happen!

My life is a work in progress and eventually I will master the skill!

Get yourself some 10, 15 and 20 pound dumbbells and start squatting, lunging, and curling with them. You will boost your metabolic rate and, eventually, alter the shape of your body. I lost 110 pounds at home using cheap dumbbells and wore a string bikini for the first time in my life at age 39 .. I promise you won't be sorry.

I like using the app Workout Trainer from Skimble. You can download it for free to your smartphone or Ipad. Works great & it has a variety of exercises, like Cardio, Yoga, Abs, etc. It gives detailed pictures and advice on each exercise so that you know you are doing it correctly.

Throw together some circuits. I like to alternate body weight exercises and cardio, a couple examples would be something like:

10 push ups
30 sec jumping jacks
15 sit ups
30 second high knees
20 bodyweight squats
30 second butt kicks

30 second plank

Repeat.

Just an idea :)

Wii is the thing I have stuck with consistently. I have a lot of games, but 3 or 4 that I keep coming back to. Right now, they are EA More Active, Exerbeat, and Walk It Out. I also throw in an easy dance one when my husband is around. No one should have to see my arms failing around, tripping over my feet, and yelling at myself. Find something you like and stick with it! Good luck on your quest!

If you have a large enough space inside or a garage or carport that you can empty for a bit, try getting a hula hoop. My niece used it to lose weight and tone up, and I recently tried it too. Very good for the waist line although a bit challenging at first to get it right. She and I both started with 10-15 minutes but if may be able to do more, and combine with something else.
Her suggestion - Listen to about three or four songs and the music will keep you moving & work that core.

Youtube! There are a TON of workouts on youtube -- my favorite ones are from Blogilates, my three-year-old walks around saying "Hi guys, Cassey here!" sometimes because she hears it enough. Hers almost never require equipment other than shoes and a mat, or sometimes things you have at home like a broom. Pinterest is also a good source of workouts, some videos and some not.

SP has an unlimited amount of videos and exercises with very liitle equipment. I use my stairs at home if I can't work out on a machine. I do a lot of calisthenics using my body weight as my resistance. The resources are unlimited.

I agree with the other posters, YouTube has a TON of exercise videos. There are some really good quick cardio workouts right here at SP too. One thing I like is at Amazon they have some exercise videos available for rent before you buy on Amazon On Demand. If you are a prime member, I think some are available for free streaming too. Netflix has a some yoga videos available on instant, but I'm not sure about cardio workouts as I was just looking at yoga when I looked a couple of months ago. I was going to mention that the Walk Away The Pounds was available on YouTube and is a great workout, or you can even just march in place while watching your favorite TV show. Just make sure you go at a good pace and get your arms into it too.

I do all my workouts at home, and I'm like you and have been anxiously waiting for it to warm up here in Indiana. It's supposed to get up to almost 70 today and hit 70 tomorrow, so I'm dragging my daughter out to the local park to play some tennis.

Like Cheetara79 I quite like the Befit Channel on Youtube.
The "Get Fit in 90" videos were a bit out of my league, but I really like the "30 Day Butt Lift" videos. You don't need any equipment since most exercises use body weight to train. And even with only 10 minutes for each workout you will work up a sweat.

Do you have a Wii? I love the Wii Active package. (Not to be confused with Wii Fit.) It combines cardio with strength and you can have it so that the workouts change up from day to day. It comes with a resistance band, but I would recommend getting stronger/more resistant one eventually. I finally figured out how to turn off the annoying trainer voice - so much better! LOL

I saw the new version at Target today, $40 and it now comes with a heart monitor and wireless controls.

This is what got me off the couch this winter!

You might like Leslie Sansone's DVDs. They are "in home walking" -- not a lot of choreography, but you get a good workout and don't need any equipment except a DVD player (on your TV or computer). You can find her on Amazon.

My PBS channel offers a program called "Sit and Be Fit" which has a pretty good work out for people bothered with things like arthritis. You can always get the old Jack LaLanne shows on DVD at the library now. Kinda fun but hard work. Of course if you like walking there are the Leslie Sansone walk aerobics DVDs, anything from an easy mile to five miles, some with a few jogging intervals thrown in. My library has them but they're usually checked out so I' bought some.

Look at the videos right here on SP. There are lots of them that don't need any equipment, and there's a big variety. Just click above on "Articles & Videos" then scroll down to "Videos."

You should be able to find something there.

Sometimes I enjoy old school exercises; jumping jacks, sit-ups, push-ups, bend and stretch (head, shoulders, knees and toes). No equipment needed. Three sets of 10 and you're finished in no time at all.

Strength vs Cardio, but Body by you/Be your own gym - I like it because I can do the training inside or out. I also use New rules for women - you do need to own some weights for this one. Design for a gym, but they have modification for home users. After stage one, the workouts start taking longer, but you definitely know you doing something.

Thanks for the ideas. Today, I think that I will try a youtube video. I like the idea of getting to try different things. Too cold is anything that allows my ankles to get cold. Even with good socks, if my ankles get cold, my arthritis acts up and then it is a couple of days before I can do much at all. Today it is sleeting and cold outside - 38 degrees. I have on good socks, but I can tell that if I am outside for very long, I will pay for it later...

I haven't gotten to that point of loving a workout. So I distract myself with a TV show and pettle the bike! After I do weights and sit ups while watching. Better than sitting and eating from the couch! Those days are going, going, gone! emoticon

BLINGQUEEN:O) sends you {{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}} can you feel them? :O)

I like to play tennis against the wall. I go to the neighborhood tennis court and play against myself with the wall. (I don't know what its called but its fun you get a great workout and its free). I can rarely find someone to play with so I go hit some balls till I get tired. Its a lot of fun and you definitely break a sweat.I know its not exactly at home but close to home.

I don't understand "too cold"? Dress appropriately and you won't be cold.

I do most of my workouts at home. For cardio, I love exercise-y video games like the Just Dance series. I have the XBox Kinect. As long as you're putting the effort in, it is a great workout.

I also do a lot of workouts from youtube. The Spark channel is great, of course, but I also really like another channel called BeFit. It has a lot of original content and many of the workouts are only 10 or 20 minutes long.

In my home gym, I have a set of weights that can go up to 20 pounds each. I also have a set of resistance bands that were around $30 on Amazon. In addition, I have a yoga mat, a couple of balance balls and a couple of Bosu balls. I use an old belt as a yoga strap.

You don't have to eat the whole thing.

Pick up some workout DVDs. The Biggest Loser workouts are generally inexpensive. I have Cardio Max which is a great cardio workout and incorporates some weights so you can get soem strength training too. Also Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred is a great workout too.

Spring will be here soon, right???!!?!

Winter just won't go away. I was looking forward to taking long walks and getting outside during spring break. I did get in a couple of long walks while we were at the beach, but now that we are back on the western side of the state, it's been way too cold. I need some good ideas for indoor cardio workouts at home that will keep me motivated until spring finally gets here.
