I would definitely get a professional diagnosis. You probably should have done so before resorting to using a heating pad and icing. You are not a pro sports player, so there is really no reason or advantage to pushing through the pain like you have been.
Discomfort is normal and good and signals your body is making gains. Pain is not good and means you need to stop. Continuing will never make you feel better, and can make a fairly simple problem much worse as the body tries to compensate.
You said resting does not help, but how long was that rest? At this point, a few days probably is not going to do it. Please get the professional help you need and I hope for a speedy recovery.
