i enjoy zumba. there are various classes that offer different things. Zumba Toning is fun b/c you get to use some weights, etc. But Zumba RIPPED is super cool its more strength and plyometrics.

The Werq classes sound just like it. Updated music (a lot of pop/hip hop). Nice variety next to Zumba.

I never done Jazzercise, but Zumba is what I enjoy. I love the variety of routine that I've experienced with the different instructors. No two styles are alike.

I have done both and I love Jazzercise. To me the Jazzercise classes are more energetic. The instructors face you in class and push you. Jazzercise is not Jazz. It's a combo of all sorts of music, dance styles, and include cardio, strength, and stretch. Zumba to me is a little flat. I love Latin music but I also like variety and JC has that. Also, in every Zumba class I have been in, the instructors are on the floor facing the same way you are, so I felt disconnected. My JC instructors have always been on stage, with a mic, and facing me and engaging me. Just my .02. I will never give up JC, and its set to the latest music and styles. It includes dance (all types), yoga, Pilates and the classes are customized to do circuit, standard, kickboxing, etc based on the instructor's set. I love it!

I'm so addicted to Jazzercise! So much fun, and I burn 500+ calories an hour, so definitely a good workout.

I've only tried Zumba for the Wii, which I didn't care for, but I'd need to try some actual classes before I really judged it.

I've done some zumba and just this week tried jazzercise for the first time. The zumba I've taken was zumba gold, zumba toning, and some regular zumba. The regular zumba seems to vary from a moderate pace (this last instructor) to kinda crazy with fast feet I can't quite keep up with.

First impressions based on only 2 jazzercise classes versus a lot more zumba.....Jazzercise seems to be more high impact at least without the mods, but they had low impact mods for most of it. Zumba has more side to side foot twisting. I definitely need slideyer shoes for zumba, might not for jazzercise. The jazzercise place I went to was a place that only does that. The people seem to know each other and come very often and there appears to be a club like feel..they have contests and stuff where you can win towels and what not. It reminds me a bit of Curves, but with classes at set times instead of a circuit you can do whenever.

The jazzercise format appears to be warmup, cardio, stength training (non dancy) part with weights, then cooldown. Zumba doesn't have specific strength training unless its a zumba toning class, then you use these very light handweights most of the time while dancing.

I like the zumba music better..but I specifically like the latin, African, hip hop sort of stuff zumba uses. Far as I could tell there wasn't a lot of jazz music in jazzercise..mostly pop stuff, but I believe some of the steps might be derived from jazz dance style.

Also it is much easier to find zumba classes, at least around here, you can't hardly throw a rock without hitting a zumba class. zumba.com has a big listing of classes. The jazzercise place is really close to me though and has just jazzercise all day and evening.

I like them both. I'll probably go to jazzercise again.

I love love love Jazzercise! The center I go to has amazing instructors and the music is more my speed. I've done Zumba and liked it, but I don't really move in that Latin way! I find I can work out at a higher intensity when the movements aren't so awkward for me.

Jazzercize still exists?

I listen to Latin music and do Latin dancing anyhow, so Zumba works for me.

Dances: salsa (standard/LA), casino, rueda de casino, cumbia Colombiana, bachata, mambo, cha-cha-chá, merengue, reggaetón.

Currently learning: Mexican cumbia, danzón, Cuban rumba

Dances to Learn in the future: flamenco, tango Argentino, samba, belly dancing, bhangra, ballroom rumba

I can NOT dance at all, but I love Zumba on my Xbox! It does go a bit fast for me so I don't get too many stars since I can't keep up. I am so bad I won't do it in public, even when Zumba classes are free here. Even my kids tell me I'm doing it wrong.... I know my friends would make fun of me. Honestly I feel like they are very similar. There is a little bit more latin music in Zumba, whereas Jazzercise has more top 40 music. One difference is that Jazzercise also offers step classes. As odd as it sounds, I am uncoordinated and found step to be better for me. If it does not cost too much I think you should try to have some variety.

I've never tried jazzercise, but I really like Zumba. I bought Zumba 2 for the wii and have been using that for the last 2 months. I've been having a blast with it! I'm not very good at dancing, but I love to move. When I first started out I was really just flailing around for the entirety of the workout, but now I'm learning the routines better and am somewhat looking like I know what I'm doing. emoticon

I used to dance hip hop and jazz as a child, so dance/excersize classes are like being a kid again for me. But I can see how someone who is not used to that...it can be discouraging.

It seems like the people who tend to enjoy it (I call them Zumba groupies) are the ones that know the dances because they go to the same instructor who repeats the same routines alot. If you really want a leg up, you could buy the video and learn the moves there.

Little hint: If you get frustrated with a move just fake it. As long as your moving it really doesnt matter. I will get goofy and start doing the "runnning man" or something all the time!! :)

I like Jazzercise better. First of all, I enjoy the music more. Contrary to what a previous poster said, they do not play jazz music during Jazzercise class. In fact, they play mostly top 40 pop songs with a good beat. Plus, there's usually a 15 minute weights workout towards the end of the class.

I have tried Zumba as well and I really like it too! However, I prefer the Jazzercise music over the Latin music they play in Zumba.

You don't have to eat the whole thing.

I have never done jazzercise but just the name of it is a turnoff to me - I don't like Jazz. I do love Zumba w/ the latin and hip hop music.

I was kind of surprised that Jazzercise is still going on. There is a new place opening down the street from work. It's definitely stood the test of time.

for me, I cannot dance. I have NO rhythm. And it only gets worse as I get tired. So neither one.

which one do you like better? I am currently doing Zumba and I love it but eventually I would like to give jazzercise a try.
