I think about lots of different things like my new job, what is happening in life, children's stories (yes, I'm and elementary education major), how far I've gone, nature, "just keep going," and so much more.

Today, during a race, I found myself thinking about the racers around me. I caught up to a pair of women around mile 5 and couldn't seem to pass them (I was getting tired), so I made it my goal to always have them in sight and not get too far behind. I called them the Superhero Girls in my head because one had sleeves that were red with white stars and a blue band and the other had a coat tied around her waist, which seemed like a cape to me. I will keep up with the Superhero Girls!

If I'm on a machine and listening to music, my brain often does math problems with the numbers on the screen, LOL. I'm not even really the math type!

When I'm in classes, I'm focusing on the moves and don't do a lot of additional thinking, unless I wonder how much longer I have until class is over.

If I'm outside, I try to pay attention to my surroundings to actually ENJOY being outside.

I very rarely run. Yesterday I did a 5K, though, and I thought a lot about my speed (it was slow) and the many other people around me.

lately, i have been doing the airclimber, so i watch tv and it makes the time go quickly. i end up sweating and getting a great workout, then cool down with arm weights afterwards and stretch to the rest of the show! Not a lot of visualizing, unless you count Dean and Sam from Supernatural emoticon

I enjoy nature when I am walking outside. When I am on the treadmill I listen to Christian radio. The time goes a lot faster when my mind is occupied.

If I am lifting weights nothing, usually cursing under my breath. However, when I am running i let my mind wander, I enjoy the scenery or talk to myself "You are strong" etc.

When I am walking outside I am just enjoying the sensations, wind, bird calls, ground squirrels, say hello to other walkers and bikers, waiting for the influx of hummingbirds. feeling the sun on my arms. In other words I'm not thinking I'm enjoying life happening all around me. I feel like this is my me time. Extremely refreshing, invigorating.

I have a friend who is working out at a gym almost every day for an hour at least. She's frustrated that she isn't losing weight now, but her size has changed a lot. Muscles burn more calories than fat.

If I'm inside I listen to music and walk dance. That's what I call it. If I'm outside I think about what has been going on in my life and how I can fix something that isn't working and I usually reach an answer or have a clear idea about what I can do next. So I'm always thinking.

Outdoors or indoors, I use a radio app on my iPod or smart phone to listen to public radio stations. The variety of topics discussed help the time pass and keep me up-to-date on what is happening in the world.

Outdoors:
Sometimes I listen to music I've recorded or the radio to 'catch the beat' while walking (my version of intervals). Other times I do a walking meditation counting steps...1,2...1,2,3, 1,2,3,4, etc. Getting as high as I can and start over when I lose track.
Indoors:
I watch a television show marching in place during the program and use my jogging tramp during the commercials for intervals.

I ran my first 1/2 in January. I mostly let my mind wander. Sometimes if its particularly tough I repeat a mantra that helps me keep a pace. I am strong, I can do this.... Other times I figure out math problems ~ How far will I go if I run a 18 min. mile for 1 1/2 hrs etc. I tend to do my long runs alone and shorter runs with friends. I do not listen to music I need to be aware of whats going on around me.

During the first 75% or so of my run, I think about what I need to do for the day or just let my mind wander. When I get to the "this is hard" or "I want to be done!" portion of my head near the end I start doing calculations to stay focused or motivated. "What is my average speed? How will a three minute sprint at Xmph affect my overall average? How far will I go in the remaining minutes of my run?" And then I'll double or triple check my math to pass the time until I'm done, lol.

Honetly, lol, I think about how cool it is that after whatever amount I am jogging, I am STILL jogging. I am new at this and so I am just really impressed that my body is catching on so quickly. It usually something like, I'm awesome, I'm running, well jogging, but I'm still awesome, lol. Whatever it takes right?

I think about how I can become a better running. I want to improve on my distance, speed and form. I notice that I have a bad habit of leaning forward when I run. I have to focus on keeping my body straight when I run. I'm getting better, but I wish I was better at it. But, overall I just think about how I can improve my health and appearance.

I used to listen to music, but now that I have an iPod with a built-in radio, I listen to my local NPR station. It's a good way to get out of your own head, and you don't have to look down or fiddle with cords to change songs. And it's never repetitive!

I read somewhere once that "running is quality time with yourself". And I think that is great! I find myself thinking of all different kinds of things while I'm running; there's never anything specific that I focus on, and I definitely do have those days when I am thinking about giving up because it is sooooo haaaarrrrrddd! But I just keep going until I get through it. :)

usually my form (am I standing up straight? am I bouncing my head too much indicating I'm not using my belly to moderate my movements? how is my foot feeling on that elliptical stirrup thingy?) my breathing, my music - trying to match my strides to the beat at times, my day, my art or whatever is on the news. I kind of use the time to hang out with myself. If I'm outside in the nice weather I'm often musing about something pretty I saw.

I try to listen to the music and NOT think, although I seldom succeed.

When hiking last year (on the Camino de Santiago, an ancient pilgrim path in Spain), I was able to do this. No music, no talking, NO THINKING. It was amazing. Walking meditation. My friend told me she had a similar experience on umrah (pilgrimage in Mecca).
