I'm about your weight and have no problems running on a treadmill.

Great suggestion about starting with a slight incline.

Thanks everyone!! I guess I still "feel" much bigger than I am now so that's what makes me nervous about it. Today was only my third day at a new gym so I'm still getting used to it and trying not to feel too self-conscious.

I run on one pretty hard, and I'm a big guy. You won't have any issues.

One thing about a treadmill - set it on a 1-2% incline and get used to it, that way when you run outside you won't wonder what the heck happened.

And looking at your signature's footer, your starting weight is well under the numbers mentioned previously. I know you'll be fine. I have personally seen larger sizes on the treadmills at both gyms I workout at.

400 lb person.

400 lbs of force is generated by a 100 lb person. If they could only handle 400 lbs of force, they would be useless for adults.

Now does that mean it can handle a 400 pound person running on it, or 400 pounds of pressure total, considering that running would add a lot more force on the machine than just walking slowly or even standing?

It seems like it varies depending on the model (according to their website). Looks like the most heavy duty will accept up to 400lbs. If you know the model you can google it and see if it will work for you.

I'm thinking about starting the C25K program but I'll be doing it on a treadmill because of the weather. Does anyone know what the usual weight limit is for running on a treadmill? They are Life Fitness brand machines. I'm too embarrassed to ask someone at the gym so I'm hoping someone here might have an idea. Thanks!
