between 4:30pm and 11 pm. Depends on other activities I am involved with. Would love to be able to sleep at night, then I would be a morning person, and hit the gym before work.

I like to work out early in the morning. In the evenings, the gym is so crowded.

Right after work! There is a gym down the street, and if I work out for an hour after I get off (at 5:00pm) it cuts the time of my commute home in half!

Anytime I have time but near lunch time

Made it, this time to my goal of 72K but reset it 70k to let me go up or down. I will be very happy to stay between the two.

It depends. I usually do somewhere between 10am-12pm or 1pm-4pm. If I work out too late I have trouble falling to sleep. But I don't like working out too early because I like to have breakfast and get my vitamins in first.

I used to like mornings so that I would get it done and have no chance to blow it off as the day gets busier, but then I found that it would make me feel hungrier.

If I didn't have to work, I think I would enjoy mid day best, but the next best thing is after supper between 6:30 and 7:30, absolutely never any later.

Though we cannot control the winds, we can adjust the sails.

When I run (3x/week), I almost always do it first thing in the morning (around 6am). When I run at that hour, it's on an empty stomach, because I refuse to get up early enough to eat 45 minutes before I start out. On strength training days, since I do that at home, I do it whatever time fits for that day. Sometimes it's early, while the kids are eating breakfast, sometimes it's in the afternoon. On those days, it might be on an empty stomach or might not be. As long as I haven't *just* eaten, my body doesn't seem to care whether I last ate 45 minutes before or 8+ hours before.

No time of day is inherently better than any other time--the key is finding a time that works for *you*. Whenever *you* are most likely to work out is the best time.

I work out after the kids go to bed, around 8 or 8:30pm. I know most people think I'm crazy but that is the only time that works for me. I have tried early morning, I just cant get going! I run/walk on the treadmill, in the morning I cant seem to get the momentum that I do in the evening. I usually eat around 5:30 or 6pm then I'm not hungry when i run. It makes me sick if I run when I have just eaten. I also dont drink a lot before i run, that makes me sick too! Then when I am done I treat myself to a slim fast shake as a snack. If you can do mornings more power to you! I agree that you do feel great, and your mood is amazing! I just cant drag my butt out of bed! Good luck with your journey!

I want to feel everyday the way I do after I work out, proud and happy!

If my exercise is not done by 6:30 - 7:30, it is not going to happen. No one cares what I do before 7:30, and it is the only time I am not interrupted or distracted. In 40 years of daily exercising, it has NEVER worked consistently when I attempted to exercise any other time of day, though I have tried several times. I don't need to be at work before 8 AM, no one cares about meals being served, and there are very few family or business calls before 7:30. Only twice in 40 years has my workout been interrupted by family at the early hour. Once was a death in the family, the other was a serious accident in the family.

I have no idea how others do it at any other time of day and admire that they can. I wish I could.

However, now that I rise around 4:30 - 5 AM every day, I am accustomed to it and find that it has other advantages than just getting exercise done. I have trained myself through hard work and diligence over decades to be a morning person and highly recommend it.

How do others with a family exercise other times of day?

In the evening, except on weekends.
I normally wake up a little after 6am, and for me to work out in the morning, I'd have to get up way earlier. I've tried it, and pushing myself that early makes me feel sick. So, I do it right when I get home from work.

Sometimes I work out right away in the morning... Sometimes it is after work in the early evening if I couldn't fit in the morning exercise.. Sometimes both depending on what I did in the morning (or how long i got to exercise in the morning)... if I go to the gym, that is after work...

i exercise before breakfast or multiple hours after lunch (but before dinner)... I don't feel well if exercise on too full of a tummy. If I do feel like I need something before my exercise i'll just eat a little something like almonds or a banana, etc. It's whatever works for each person :)

I learned that if I try to wait until evening after work, I just don't do it because other stuff ends up seeming more important. I look forward to my 5am workouts and my day isn't complete without them. The other big deciding factor that morning is best for me, is that I can't workout with a lot of food in my tummy. In the a.m. I just grab a little granola bar and I'm good to go. It's personal preference and trial & error to find what's best.

I workout whenever I have the time to do it. So that may be in the morning after I get the kids on the bus or at night after I get the kids in bed. Yesterday I worked out in the morning and at night. Today will be at night. You just have to do what works with your schedule. The most important thing is that you do it.

I'm retired, but still tend to work out most often in the evening. Occasionally late afternoon. I do 2-3 miles on the treadmill, and always pick out a program I want to see on tv. That keeps me motivated to exercise for about an hour; part cardio and part ST.

Its not true that you burn more calories on an empty stomach. Actually, since you may be running on fumes, you probably have less energy to burn so you exert yourself less!

The good thing about working out in the mornings is that it is done for the day, you have more energy and are in a better mood for the day. The good thing about the afternoons is...sleep. haha.

Every person is different - I would recommend you find what works for you. I would just recommend if you go after work that you stop drinking caffeine after lunch -- for me anyway, it makes my heart race which is no good for exercising.

Most people say to eat and wait 45 minutes and then workout. However in the mornings if you are like me you are rolling out of bed getting your workout done, showering and scooting to work, where you eat something finally. If that works for you, go for it. If your body feels weird change it up.

Is there a specific time of day that is more beneficial than another to work out? Or is it better on an empty stomach? So like if you work out in the morning, should you eat breakfast first or wait till after? Or in the evening, before or after dinner?

I've been changing my fitness routine to evening but I remember hearing something about that if you work out on an empty stomach it is better because it forces more calories burned. I don't know if that's true or not. Maybe it's just easier for me in the evening because I have energy after eating dinner but is that counterproductive to weight loss to exercise using the energy you have from the food you just ate....? hope that made sense.....
