You definitely don't have to work out 7 days a week to lose weight. When I first started, all I was doing was the Couch to 5k program three days a week. I did that for about three months before adding in two more days (boot camp class and then strength training at home). I still take two rest days per week, and I've lost almost 60 lbs. so far. I lost weight from the beginning, even exercising just those three days per week, because I tracked every single thing I ate.

As or what exercise is "best," as others have said, there is no "best" exercise to lose weight. You just need to pick what you enjoy doing so you keep doing it.

What do you like to do? Walking is good. Elliptical is good. Videos on SparkPeople are good. Strength training is good. Try a gym - most have a free week.

There isn't a "best" exercise to lose weight.

You don't need to exercise 7 days a week.

Exercise is great! Any exercise.

Including cardio (huffy puffy), plus strength, and flexibility work into your week is a great all-rounded exercise program.

But it doesn't matter what you do. It doesn't matter whether you prefer to cycle, run, walk, do a DVD at home, take up dance, join a football team, or anything else. Any exercise is good exercise!

And rest is a critical part of your exercise programme. You should have one day a week where, if you get any exercise at all, it's light and easy. You would probably also benefit from a week off every 8 weeks if you're pushing the intensity high every time.

Hi SUNNYMARIELEE1,

The best exercise is the one you find enjoyable and see yourself doing for the long term, which is not necessarily the one that will give you the fastest results. Cardio, strength training and flexibility exercises should all be a part of your healthy living journey. Contrary to what many believe, one form does not trump another--they are all important. So if you find walking an activity you can see yourself doing for the long haul, than walking it is. And as you so wisely pointed out, following a healthy diet is just as important to your weight loss success as the exercise that you do.
