Yes, you really do have to take a rest day. Preferably more than one! Rest days are when your body recovers and heals, and gets stronger. For example, strength training doesn't make you stronger... it's the rest days BETWEEN strength training that makes you stronger!
I know it's a pain, but it really does make a difference. You should always take rest days, and skipping them is a great way to increase your risk of injury!
