Thanks for all the great advice!
SAILOR; I'll be sure to keep that in mind ^_^ I usually consider myself a cautious person when it comes to signing anything, and I generally don't like spending money I don't have to (which would be part of why up to now I've been doing videos I got off a friend vs paying a gym membership). Still, I'm no stranger to persuasion tactics and how often even the weary get suckered in, so I appreciate the warnings...
and as DRAGONCHILDE suggested, I am certainly going to look at the nearer locations first despite the bad yelp reviews. The closest club near me is an LA fitness (former Bally) which online is listed as $40/month for multiclub membership (some online-only offer for non-members...), but again, the Yelp is not very inviting www.yelp.com/biz/la-fitness-rancho-palos-v
, with the only club-specific pics being those of the dirty pool; others are stock "typical club" images. Again, I'll certainly wait until I visit this (and the 24h fitness that's probably just a smidge further than the Equinox club, though it has similar Yelp reviews) before deciding anything.
From what I've heard on here, I assume I can beat any online offer by going in and talking things out in person (or at worst, go in and get the online deal)... though I *would* rather do a pay by month plan since I might not be in the same state come September -_-;
Just wanted info on Equinox since if the reviews prove true, I may end up deciding between it and just doing the cardio vids I've gotten used to. I did get Chalean Extreme in the lot, which does do strength training... but I'd have to invest in some free weights for it and back home there's not any good room to jump around in.
Again, thanks for all the input (and I welcome further comments/tips/etc of course!), its been quite helpful to even hear that even upper end clubs should be able to budge a bit in their listed price (guess I have a bargaining stigma when it comes to places with established prices... before I came here I thought it was like going into vons. The apple costs $1.50... you're not getting it for $1.25, so woot for SP ^_^
