Do you find gadgets motivating?
You don't NEED a pedometer, but many people like them a lot, and find them very motivating. IF you're going for a 10,000 step a day goal, they're very important for tracking that.
I don't use them, but I did when I first got started. Now I have graduated to a heart rate monitor to track my workouts (although my watch gave out.) I think a pedometer is a great way yo get started motivating yourself to work out!
Most people who really like them wear them all the time to encourage themselves to move more, walk farther, and get more day-to-day movment.
