I've done a couple. They're OK. If you can run a 5K you can do the Warrior Dash, probably without too much extra effort. The obstacles are more nuisance than they are a challenge. I do them with a group of buddies and it's more of a social event. I wouldn't worry too much about it if you're able to run 5K or more. Just do it.

I've been wanting to do a "mud run" of some kind for a while now, but never feel in shape enough for it. My upper body is really weak. What I need to do is pick one 4 months away or so and sign up for it, so I've made the commitment and will start working more consistently on strength.

I don't know about you, but I always push myself harder if I have a concrete goal, especially one I've paid for and told others about!

So if you don't have insurance, they offer some for the race for an additional fee? I'll keep the upper body strength in mind. Thank you! :] That sounds like a lot of fun!

I haven't done the Warrior Dash, but I did do a Spartan Sprint in November. It's a similar type of obstacle course. Do you enjoy obstacle course type races where you get muddy ? If so, you might enjoy trying one. I had fun climbing over walls, shimmying through tubes, climbing up rope ladders, carrying heavy weights, etc. It was a challenge that I was thrilled to complete.

Now, the entrance fees plus insurance can be expensive and the Warrior Dash, Tough Mudder, Spartan Sprints won't let you compete unless you have insurance. So keep in mind the cost of the race could run you $100-$150.

Also, how's your strength ? If you're going to do an obstacle course, you're going to need to start practicing your pull ups and push ups. You're going to need good strength as well as cardiovascular stamina.

Still, if you're looking for a challenge and want to have fun, sign up.

I'm thinking about doing one in April and was wondering if anyone had done it before and could share their experience.
