I am liking Insanity. The workouts challenge you and are hard. I am two weeks in a do what I can but have improved since starting.

I think this is one of those things where you're going to get a lot different answers. Everyone is different. I can suggest TurboFire. It's a lot of fun and you burn a lot of calories. For example, today I burned 647 calories (I have a heart rate monitor) during my 71 minute work out. I would suggest going on youtube and watching some videos or clips of videos and seeing what you might like. You can also see if your library has any videos that you can check out and try before investing in them.

I really like Amy Dixon. All her dvds are wonderful, but her Breathless Body dvd is very good - It's 8 different exercise moves of Tabata style training - 20 seconds exercise, then 10 seconds rest, with a slightly longer rest in between each different exercise move. Each move is done 8 times. There are 3 levels of exertion to choose - beginner, intermediate, and advanced, so it's easily modified to specific needs. What I really like most about Amy's dvds is that she is very encouraging and likeable - it really comes across that she truly wants you to succeed.

I love Jillian Michaels' workouts. Almost three years when I started my weight loss journey, I was doing the 30 Day Shred. It was difficult, but I survived. I'm not sure how many calories a "significant amount" is to you, but I think the 30 Day Shred is a good option for beginners.
