I'm a size 40J, and it has been hard finding a good supportive sports bra. For the past couple of years I've been wearing Panache underwire sports bras, and I'm very happy with them. They cost a lot (around $100 each) but have held up well, and I can even do a Downward Facing Dog without motorboating myself now!

I just ordered the Panache, Shock Absorber, and Freya sports bras to try out. I'm really excited for them since having really big boobs hurts when I work out.

Love my New Balance underwire sports bra. The underwire separates ans supports my breasts but does not have the uniboob look.

What an excellent thread suggestion! Thanks for that and the responses. The most comfortable bra I myself have had is a New Balance. :)

I used to go for Champion sports bras... but once I got up past a C cup the support just wasn't there. Then one day I discovered the "Shockingly Unshocking" sports bra by New Balance, and not only did it come in my size, the fit was perfect and it completely lived up to its name. I can do whatever cardio I want now without having to worry about jiggling, impact, or pain.

I love my Asics Lock Zip! It's for high impact exercise, and I am a distance runner and it's comfortable for at least a couple of hours of hard work! I still have a feminine shape, but I feel very stable and supported. I'm a 36DD for reference. Very breathable, nice cushy straps, and the weight is very evenly suported!

I third the recommendation for an Enell sports bra, though I do wear it under a Moving Comfort sports bra because it is a front close and I always feel like it is going to pop open.

The best sports bra will be horrible if the band isn't tight enough. I knew mine weren't fitting right but I didn't know the right size existed. If the band is not sitting level on your back (as in: it pulls up as you wear it) you're not getting proper support plus it can lead to chaffing. Right now I'm wearing my old Under Armor sports bras (the closest thing I could find to something that fit right until I found Nordstrom/Nordstrom Rack carries extended sizes) for compression over a properly fitting Panache bra for support during class until I get money for a Panache or Freya sports bra.

I gotta agree about Under Armour. Its pretty pricey but sooo worth it. I've tried many brands over the years and even doubled up on sports bras at times, so happy too have found under Armour; by far the best support I've found

I am a 38DDD and the best support I have found is the Enell sports bra - but they are definitely to be worn under something - I usually wear a light t-shirt or racer-back tank. Honestly, I very rarely see women working out with only sports bras on in my gym - even the most fit wear a tank or t-shirt over their bras.

I love Athleta's Glory Bra for running. I'm a 34D now (started out 38DD), and it works great at keeping the bounce to a minimum.

Also, the Title Nine website (and catalog) rates their bras by "barbells" -- that is, level of support -- and makes recommendations based on your bra size and type of activity.

Starting Weight: 260 lbs. (November 2010)
Quasi-Maintenance: 165 lbs. (June 2011)
Goal Weight: 150 lbs. (reached December 8, 2011)

Size 22W to Size 4

Currently maintaining within 5 lbs. (+ or -) of goal. I weigh daily, but also use a tape measure and the fit of my clothes to guage how well I'm doing.

I also use the Panache Sports bra, it's really great.

Another good option are Shock Absorber bras, especially B4490, it has (imo) the best support. And it's officially machine washable, which I prefer :D
You can often find it cheap on ebay.

I don't have big breasts and still I love this level of support, "conventional" sports bras don't do anything for me. (like bras from sports companies: Nike etc.)

LOL, that was my plan, Beanbydesign...
my mother is a marshall's/ross/etc addict so I know I'll be in those at lest once every couple days when I go back home. I was raised on those so I'm quite good at hunting deals down in them (though buying stuff in outlets and malls is also fun... though far more painful on the wallet).
I'm glad to be pooling good bra brands though, since before this post I've not known any (the sports bras I own are the adidas ones costco carried a while back)... and knowing what to keep an eye out for is 80% of the battle in those stores ^_^.
I'm not much for buying online without at least trying it somewhere, so even though that ta ta tamer one is pretty *and* tempting, I'm really hesitant about getting clothes without trying them first. Hell, at the moment, I don't even know my size (though seeing as last summer's ross trips had me in the 10, sometimes 8 range... and I'm just under what I was at the time, I figure that's still roughly true given how greatly those stores' sizes vary).

I'm a DD cup and I've had lots of success with the Old Navy padded sports bras. I also look for higher-end brands at Marshall's and TJ Maxx (where I can usually score a $30-$50 sports bra for $12-$15). Generally, I've found I'm most comfortable in bras that have thick straps, padding, and that are structured to have two separate cups, rather than the uni-boob thing that's common in cheaper sports bras.

I like moving comfort to keep the girls in place. I'm a D cup now, and this is the first time I can wear just one sports bra. They are a little pricey, but better than wearing two cheaper ones, and you still are too bouncy. If you keep looking online they do have sales and you can get them for $39.

Some bras can be worn as tops, others most definitely should not be. Generally, it seems like the cute colorful compression bras for the less well endowed are more suitable for public consumption.
Me, I go for a not quite so pretty, but great performer. The Glamorise 1166. It is designed for the larger busted among us and has a soft cup under bra with an adjustable mesh compression panel over top. I ordered bigger than my regular bras by one cup and one band size and it was still tight when it was new. Now that I have lost a bunch, I need to size down the band soon. They run about $45 each, so really, they are reasonable.

... that actually makes me feel better. Rather not show midriff, atm. Most sports bras I've seen are so pretty though, it seemed like they were meant to be shown -_-;
and yeah, I just jumped on that site and it's too cute ^_^
Just hope some local store has some so I could try on as I'm clueless as to what size I am vs what the numbers say ( either their sizes run *really* small or my weightloss has upped my bra band size and *drastically* decreased my cup... which I don't notice judging by the everyday bras I'm using)...

Most people wear sports bras under shirts unless it is really hot.

My favorite sports bra is Lululemon's Tata Tamer. Not cheap, but worth it to me,

one follow up Question (and please, keep the suggestions flowing ^_^);
people DO work out in sports bras, right? A friend today insisted that those go UNDER sports shirts if you're working out 'in public' (which includes the gym)...
now I'm even confused about *that* emoticon

My very athletic daughter swears by her Lululemon bra. It has very soft, wide straps that cross in the back, and holds everything in. She's a D cup, so it's hard to find something where she doesn't have to wear two at once. She's playing volleyball and basketball, with no jiggles.

Whether you think you can, or you think you can't...You're right!

I have an entire drawerful of the Old Navy padded ones. Lots of fun colors, and removable padding to cover up any "nipple issues" you might have. Not TOO expensive either, especially if you catch a sale.

Hi,
Just wondering... what bra do you all think is the best (support wise, though looks are a plus as well). I'll need to get a couple when I go back home in Feb and join a gym... as the one I have now is lacking in support and *cough* nipple issues -_-;
Its fine for when I'm jumping around the house... but when I join the gym... yeah~
Any ideas (specially ones that won't totally bust the bank) are highly appreciated ^_^
