"My hubbies says that when you are running and using your muscles, you build up lactic acid which can result in an initial weight gain. I find this to happen when I start w/ weights. Hope this makes you feel better!"
No disrespect to your husband, but he is completely wrong. :) Lactic acid buildup is very old school thinking. It';s usually cleared out of the muscles with an hour or so after your workout.
The expert there has the correct response. It's water retention, not lactic acid.
Also as a side note, it's too soon to build muscle significant enough to affect your weight. That takes months, or even years!
