I don't really like smooth ones. The smooth ones I've tried don't work as well for the IT band.

It doesn't seem to matter what I do or don't do, the IT band has been an issue for me for years! I just ordered a short smooth white roller on amazon! Thanks

I also have IT band issues (ouch!) and use a long smooth one. I've found that rolling my quads with my toes pointed in and then again with my toes pointed out also helps that area.

I've always used the ones with a completely smooth surface. My only complaint is that over time the center will become somewhat more compressed than the outer edges and it won't roll quite as smoothly. I've seen a different kind recently...it has an uneven surface with little bumps, I guess to increase muscle activation/blood flow. Just by looking, that one appeared to be even more firm than the regular ones....but I couldn't take it out of the package to really tell.

I've seen 2 different lengths, but I've always bought the shorter one. I should probably try the longer one, because I always have to be careful to stay in the center and not roll my way completely off the side.

I found my latest one at Marshall's...much cheaper than the first one I bought at Target.

Any suggestions on buying a foam roller? I do not need for exercises, just muscle soreness and releasing my IT band. There are so many choices I have no clue what to look for in one. Any suggestions would be helpful! emoticon
