Very roughly speaking, walking would burn 100 calories per mile and running about 150. So you can see which is closest to that for how far you went in that workout to work out which is more likely the closest to reality.

Hi Shelly,

Kcal and calories are interchangeable terms. That being said, machines are not very accurate in measuring calories expended so you may want to use the SparkPeople calorie calculator. As far as your pedometer, if you are using it to just track steps throughout the day consider these calories as a bonus as SparkPeople already factors in an active daily living multiplier.

My treadmill says that I burned 284 calories. My omron pedometer says that I burned 111 kcal. I read that kcal equals calories. Is that correct? Which measurement do I go with for calories burned?
