I have been working through lower back pull, with a break in my tail bone and pain in my sciatic nerve since Nov. You need to go to a Dr and then see a PT. Mine PT has me to core workouts to strength my back, but for the first 5 week all we did was stretches. I am now cleared by the DR and PT to walk on a treadmill up to a 5 incline ( working up to that in 10 minute interval's) and strength for arms and adding in more core. and water aerobics. I will say the moment i felt like my back was feeling good, i pushed my workout and was almost back at the starting point. You need to listen to your body, go slow. It is not a race, you need to do what is best for your body. Best of luck!!

I started with PT now I go to the gym on myown. I walk, and do resistant weigh training, it is a slow road as I started slow and with moderate/low exercises. Now I am up to 2 miles with no back pain! Hurray working on increasing my speed then more miles. I also said I do weight training to strenghthen my core and upper body. Nothing strenuous just slow to start off with but I am noticing a great change in my lower back = most days low to no pain it is amazing!!!

I have had a lower back fracture and repair, as well as a herniated disc in my neck so I know a little about back injuries. I am going to agree with the folks that say get your doctor to get you into a PT. You need to start with core muscle strengthening before you get too far into other weight stuff. The recumbent bike was also big for me. There are some balance exercises and stretch band exercises that will help you. Dont give up, it can feel better.

I've not have the back issues you mention, but I have had recurring shoulder problems. A good physical therapist can change your life! I still do exercises and stretches my PT recommended (and it's been at least 5 years since I had to go to PT)

I agree with Dragonchilde. If your doctor can give you a referral to see a physical therapist, that would be your best bet. Coach Jen

Have you asked your doctor for a referral to a physical therapist? A PT can design a program that will take your individual limitations under consideration, and perhaps even one that will improve your problems!
