go get a fitting from a running/sports store. it makes the world of difference. They should ask you some key questions, measure you, and some sort of foot pressure point map diagnosis (not sure thats the name of it) ...etc.

Find a store that will either have several brands and styles in your size in stock, or that will be willing to order them in (without charging you.) This way you can find something that will really work rather than having to order something that may cause you injury.
I happen to be a big fan of onlineshoes.com--however, I found my shoe in a brick and mortar store first and I order the same style online because it is cheaper and they almost always have them in stock.

Definitely get fitted for the right shoe, especially if you plan on running in them

The previous poster is correct that you wouldn't want to go down a size for running or walking shoes. Your best bet is to go to a specialty running/walking store in your area where you can be properly fitted for the right shoe for you.

I would NOT go for a smaller size. It's usually recommended to go up 1/2 to a full size for athletic shoes any way.

are you in the US? If so, Shoes.com & Zappos both offer free shipping both ways, so there would be no cost if you had to return something you ordered. Check those sites to see if they have the size you need.

i was needing some help with finding a pair of shoes that would actually fit a taller than average person. i usually wear a womens 12 but cannot find, and mens shoes fit funny.. not meant for a female i guess. does anyone know which brands run on the longer side that maybe an 11 would maybe fit?
