Is there a questionnaire or an article on sparkpeople about finding one's style? It took me years to figure out my own. And I dissed myself for not being able to be like the 'Biggest Losers' style. I thought I should be able to exercise often and really limit my food. Now I know what's best for me. But it took forever to axxept that.
Bustin' my butt like the Biggest Losers is not my way. Slow and steady wins the race in my eyes.
Maybe if I was in general healthy with a few pounds to get off. In the past I lost huge amounts of weight in a year--twice. But I could not maintain that. Once 89 lbs. and once 60lbs.
I just don't have the energy to push like that . I need to work on specific behaviors so I learn to maintain easily. I love water aerobics but the sweatin' stuff on land is too uncomfortable for me.
Others might have that energy for sweating and exercising like crazy. More power to you! I have done lots of kinds of exercise through my life, like hiking, swimming laps, weight machines, walking distances often, cross country skiing, skiing occasionally, bike riding, stationary bike and treadmill. Maybe if I lose some weight I can get back to some of that in moderation. I hope so.
As a kid we played all sorts of active games outside, jumping rope, baseball, kick the can, biking far and often, walking everywhere, swimming in the creek, kick ball, even touch football. We were outside all the time. No computer games and really not that much TV. I wasn't thin, but I was fit .
So, do you know of a spark article addressing this? Thanks, Chris
