Yes, in fact today I worked out and then ate like a pig at lunch because I was so hungry. I feel terrible about it.

My workouts during the "work week" always occur in the late afternoon. I eat lunch around noon, and my workouts are around 4:30 and 5 PM. My body is on a pretty regular schedule, and when I get home from work around 3:00 PM, I do eat a small snack, typically a bowl of cereal so I have some easy to digest carbohydrates and it helps fuel my workout. If I wait too long though, my body is ready for something more substantial and I'm pretty ravenous before I even begin. During my workout, my appetite is pretty suppressed once I get myself lathered up, whether is lifting heavy, which I do four days a week, or cardio, which I partake in the other three days of each week. When I get home from the gym, I am absolutely famished and having to pick up my 2 year old son from the childcare and taking him home to cook him dinner and get myself something to eat can be pretty torturous. When my wife works, this is even more difficult because I'm all alone in watching him and trying to find meals for us both, but if she is home, it does make things a bit easier. Working out itself doesn't necessarily make me hungrier, but I don't like working out with much of any food, especially when I do interval training, so I workout on a nearly empty stomach and come home ready for a good hearty meal. The key for me is always having portions under control after the gym. Even if I'm absolutely the most hungry I have ever felt, I grab a sensible portion of whatever I'm eating, and I eat it slowly and replenish fluids. By doing it this way, I avoid plowing through my dinner and grabbing something extra that leads to overeating. I don't always win that battle, but more often than not, it helps.

No I don't feel more hungry after exercise. Actually, I have the opposite reaction. Exercise suppresses my appetite. A lot of times people trick themselves into thinking they are more hungry post workout because they feel like they've worked hard or burned a lot of calories. I'm not saying this is you, but it is common. Then people go eat away their workout efforts. As mentioned previously, it IS okay to eat post workout. Depending on how hard you're working, when you last ate, etc., should all help determine what your post workout meal should be. If I were you, I would just plan my next meal/snack for when I'm done working out. Then you'll kill 2 birds with one stone! ;)

A definite YES to that, but after exercising, I feel so much better about myself that I eat better foods than when I'm slouching on the exercising, so it's still a win-win for me! I do find that one good habit leads to another and carries over into about every area of my life!
"My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in me, whom I have from God, and I am not my own. For I have been bought at a price, therefore I will glorify God in my body and in my spirit, which are God's." (paraphrase of I Cor. 6:19-20

Working out makes me a lot hungrier, but if I plan my meals sot hat I eat right after I workout, it doesn't make me go over my calories for the day.

Yes, strenous exercise ( like jogging)makes me more hungry than none, or easy, gentle exercise (yoga). You can be certain that when I come home at 7 AM after a five mile run I am starving and ready to eat a big breakfast! Then I have a moderate lunch, and light dinner most days that I run.

I've long noticed that for me it depends on intensity of exercise. e.g If I walk 5 miles I get hungry If I run 5 miles hard then it suppress my appetite. I have seen athletes be sick after a hard session - it seems that the stomach contracts and blood flow diverted to other areas of your body. I have also noticed this with weight training. If I have a light session then I'm hungry. If I push it then I'm not hungry for hours. Try upping your regime a bit...

No. I find that I am actually not any more hungry than usual. I find that in general, I am more energetic, but not hungrier. When I exercise frequently, I also have less time to sit around snacking.

It depends on the workout that I do as to my level of hunger. I find that on my cardio days I'm not especially extra hungry, but if I do a cardio and weights workout like Jillian Michaels Ripped In 30, then I'm hungrier than normal. Additionally, if I do just weights, like heavy lifting or a circuit-based weights routine, I'm STARVING!!!!

If I am spacing my meals as I should, and not allowing myself to get too hungry beforehand, I have not noticed being more hungry after working out.

Hi, When it comes to our bodies we are all an experiment of one, therefore, what happens to one person may or may not happen to another. That being said, refueling after exercise is an excellent time to replenish your glycogen stores and begin the repair and recovery process. So it's OK to have something to eat (a little protein and some carbs) after your workouts. Coach Nancy

I have asked around about this, but nobody seems to have this happen. It happens to me all the time! I get so hungry after exercising that I feel like it kind of sabotages my efforts. And of course if I don't exercise, I notice that it's much easier to stay in my calorie range. Does this happen to anyone, and do you have any tips? I want to do both :)
I'm back! I lost 60 pounds a couple years ago, but after having a baby, I've gained the majority of it back :-/ I'm starting over!
