According to charts and reports I have read, the exercises that burn the most calories per hour are jogging, cross-country skiiing, and weight lifting. Thus, I have been jogging for 40 years. It can be done solo or in a group, in rain, wind, sun, dark days or light. Jogging can be done anywhere in the world at any time of day. All you need are good shoes. But those only work if one is willing and able to do them.
Walking is great and gives one a solid base for jogging or running. Many have burned many calories and had success in losing weight with walking. Great for a mother with little kids, as they can come along and be in a stroller, walk, or bike with you.
But the absolute best exercises are those that you will do and stick with consistently.
