I love walking and find that most people underestimate how much general movement like walking burns. Don't get me wrong I love strength training and think it is SUPER important but I've noticed the more I move the more calories I burn. Ideally, someone watches their diet, strength trains a few days a week, and walks a good amount every day.

I have just started back at sparks and walking/jogging is my main source of exercise, I'm ditching the car and walking everywhere and its working! I put something on the tv and walk on my treadmill.. if you love it then do it keep a check on your nutrition just like everyone has pointed out but walking definitely wont hurt your weightloss efforts! Good luck xx

I lost 50 lbs in 3 months when I was 18. It was so easy. Now that I am over 50, I struggle to lose a pound! I walk and do weights at least 3 days a week, but I have problems with my feet and knees so really can't run, or do high aerobic. I agree that eating is the most important thing but the best thing is how you feel because of the exercise. I can't concentrate on the weight loss or I'd just give up. I feel so much better, and healthier, because I exercise.

Good advice already. Nutrition is the most important as already pointed out. For cardio exercise, what you can easily do and thus are more likely to stick with is the best, even if it does not burn the most calories per unit time.

Adding walking to your existing workout will certainly not hurt anything and could potentially help. I'm not sure how old you are but since I turned 35 (I'm inching up on 40 now), I have noticed that my metabolism is a bit slower and it's a lot easier to gain weight and a whole lot harder to lose it! I would start by evaluating your food intake and make sure that you are not sabotaging your own efforts by eating poorly. Good luck!

According to charts and reports I have read, the exercises that burn the most calories per hour are jogging, cross-country skiiing, and weight lifting. Thus, I have been jogging for 40 years. It can be done solo or in a group, in rain, wind, sun, dark days or light. Jogging can be done anywhere in the world at any time of day. All you need are good shoes. But those only work if one is willing and able to do them. Walking is great and gives one a solid base for jogging or running. Many have burned many calories and had success in losing weight with walking. Great for a mother with little kids, as they can come along and be in a stroller, walk, or bike with you. But the absolute best exercises are those that you will do and stick with consistently.

Were you tracking what you were eating at the time you were walking? Are you tracking now? Diet is 80% of weightloss. The higher you get your heart rate, the more calories you'll be burning. For me, I could walk for an hour and maybe burn 100-150 cals or I could do high intensity cardio for an hour and burn 400+ cals.
