Thank you every one for the great suggestions I hadn't thought of table push ups or step push ups but will have to try it. I haven't done the plank in awhile...or any strength training for that manner but I'm trying to gradually work my weigh into it. I will have to start doing some planks.

As others have noted, wall push ups are a great way to build upper body strength. Another way to do push ups is with a table. Try table push ups too.
Are you doing plank ? Another good exercise to help you do military style push ups is the plank. If you can't hold plank on your hands, try modified plank.
