Remember this doesn't have to be all-or-nothing. Especially with the mud races, it's unlikely you'll actually *run* the entire distance! The nature of an obstacle race is that you get slowed down.

It can be tough, but you can do it! Don't rely on someone else to be your motivation... having friends helps, but if you rely on them to motivate you, then they WILL fail you! Focus on completing it in spite of support, and make friends along the way.
I used to always insist that I had a friend go with me to the gym. I'd tell them, "Come on, let's go to the gym!" and they would cheer and agree... but when it came down to it, I could't get anyone to go.
So I went by myself.
And I made new friends. ;)
