I find it easier to do every day. But some days are lighter than others. So maybe an good option is to cardio and ST every day, but do less every other day.

yes. 2 rest days per week. 3 cardio/3 st workouts on the other 5 days. I find if I don't take the rest, I get overtired and/or injured

My goal is to burn 3000 calories each week through exercise. This means that I exercise almost every day, sometimes cardio only, sometimes both ST and cardio, and very occasionally only ST. I'm not compulsive about exercising every day, but it's getting to the point that I miss it when I don't exercise.

Yes, it keeps me sane and on track - weird as it sounds. I feel like I would be setting myself up for failure going nonstop 7 days a week. I look forward to my rest day, and feel positive when I work out my other days.

The schedule I have been using is three days running, two days where I cross-train. I usually do Elliptical and weights on cross-training. Then I have two rest days. All this is mixed up and some times I flip my days around depending on how I feel from my runs or if something special in life has come up. I did at first find it hard to take rest days as I wanted to lose as much as possible as fast as I could. I would convince myself thou that if I took the rest days say a Tuesday and Thursday I would use Wednesday to push a new distance or new speed for running. I don't increase every week but when I feel it's getting to easy I always start on Wednesday because that's when my body is best prepared for the punishment I want to inflict. That is how I justify taking the days and how I motivate me to get back to exercising.

Yes, I shoot for one rest day a week. I am currently sick so I've taken a few days off this week.

I can do my normal 20-30 mins of cardio everyday, but after weights, I ususally get delayed pain. so 24 hours after I do squats and lunges or anything legs, I am forced to take a day off. Arms are not so bad. However, I do feel the same way, like I will lose momentum...but I still take at least 1 day off per week. Just to recoup.

Every Sunday I take a rest day. I don't think you have to lose your momentum if you look at it as a way that your body is restoring itself, as something healthy, not something that you are doing wrong. Then you can think about how after that day of rest, you will be doing the healthy thing for your body by starting up again. I also stay motivated by doing other healthy things like reading nutrition and fitness articles on this website and eating healthy throughout the day, and writing in my journal or doing other motivational things that remind me of my goals and why I want to accomplish them. Even just picturing your goals for a few minutes at the beginning of the day helps you stay motivated, even after taking a day off. It all depends on how you look at it, so just try to look at it in a positive, healthy light.

Yes I do. I personally think it is important to take a rest day. Your body and your muscles need time to heal. When you are building muscles, this means you actually tear your muscles. Your body needs time to heal those muscles. In fact you burn more calories on your off days than any other. It is important to take a rest day so that your body can heal and you don't injure yourself.

Not completely from exercise. I do less on some days when I am really busy after a full day or I feel less energetic. Most days I get more energy after I do my cardio. OKAY I AM GOING TO DO SOME BRAGGING! Yesterday I worked all day in my job as an occupational therapist and then came home tired. I got on the elliptical going pretty slow and then after just a few minutes God pushed me into high gear. I used the elliptical for 2 hrs and then did 60 min. of strengthening and stretching. If my husband had not asked when I would be done I would still be exercising. I hate to ruin a good opportunity. Today I was a little achy but I am back at exercising using the elliptical as I write this message.

I feel very blessed!!!

I take rest days, but generally that means something like an easy walk or swim. I try really hard not to take days where I do nothing, or else my momentum totally stops.

No but there are days when I am very limited on what I have time to do. I have not missed a day of exercise since Election Day and before that it was when I was on vacation in the Carrabean Scuba Diving. I do something everyday and rarely miss using my elliptical. It's such a major part of my life. I have been exercising for 48-50 years and its a big part of my
daily ADLs.

I workout even when I feel bad but that's not very often!

You need to do what feels best for you. Listen to your body. It is totally fine to exercise everyday if it feels good. If you feel like you need to take a rest day do so, if you feel like you are strong enough for another workout then do so.

Personally one day off for me leads to 3 weeks off... so I have been exercising daily. On days when i feel tired and sluggish i head out for a walk or do some yoga and stretching instead of a hard workout. I just do what feels good.

I have found that by exercising everyday my body is ready for it, and i can feel my energy rising telling me to go out and exercise. This keeps you going!

I tell all my clients - 'Do what feels good' otherwise your not going to stick with it.

Keep up the good work!!

Eli

I am taking some time off this weekend because I can feel my body beginning to tire excessively. It will feel strange, I'm sure, but I know I need this.

This is my 4th week of keep keeping a regular schedule and I take Saturday and Sunday off. My first weekend off I was insanely nervous about "forgetting" to start back again on monday, but I actually looked forward to it. Now I'm not as bad, but every weekend I still have that fear in the back of my mind. Sometimes Mondays are hard energy wise, and sometimes I pick it back up easily.

I've been thinking of doing yoga on one if not both of my off days because I do a little bit post workout and I'm beginning to like it a lot, but I have a tendency to overdo it so I don't want to tack more time on to my workouts for fear of burning out. It's relaxing so I thought it would be something good to keep me active during my off days. I'd also like to start playing dancing games on Wii or Playstation or taking short walks to look for photography opportunities on weekends. I won't do a full hardcore workout on my off days though. For myself, that's asking for trouble.

If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got.

Sometimes, but often I just take a long walk on my "rest" days. I don't push hard or try to get in a certain number of miles per hour.

Yes, when my body tells me it's time to take a break. Depending on how my body feels I will take a day or two off a week.

The past doesn't define you, your present does. It's okay to create a vision of the future because it affects your behavior in the "now," but don't dwell on past mistakes. Learn from them and focus those lessons in the moment. That’s where change can really happen. - Jillian Michaels

Yes, I have one planned tomorrow. My body is telling me to take a break. Knee aches, back aches and hamstring aches. Time for a break.

New to the site and was also afraid to take a day off. After 14 days was traveling and forced to take 2 days. The following workout was awesome! I had renewed strength, so I decided I would take every weekend off. My second break...Huge mistake... felt like day one again. I'm on my 4th week training. I did do a lot of walking on my first mini vacation and my second break I was a slug.lol.. Any advice? emoticon

I aim for at least 10 min of exercise a day. I don't do really long workouts, so I normally don't take a rest day.

I do not because I set my goal as 10 minutes a day. I usually do at least 30 minutes a day unless time disappears. If I just did 10 minutes I suppose that could be considered a rest day. I do see what you mean about giving the body a rest. It does make sense.

Yes, I took one today. I read in an article that being tired and ready for a nap after exercise is a sign of overworking yourself.

Not only do I take them, I think they are necessary. Sometimes your body gets overworked and you get a much better work out if you skip a day.

Yes. I developed a stress fracture when I didn't take a rest day.

I do if I feel I need them. Usually ends up being a Saturday or Sunday, sometimes both. Monday through Friday - almost never.
