While it is true that many pieces of gym equipment significantly overestimate calories burned, it is also true that Spark's figure can get seriously distorted for heavier people (especially for resistance-based equipment like the elliptical or stationary bikes.
I disagree a bit with Coach Nancy's endorsement of the Spark calculator (what else do you expect her to say?).
Rather than saying one estimate is consistently better than another, I think it is better to go with the more conservative of the two estimates.
