I had the same problem as you! My solutions were to every now & then wiggle my toes, move my feet slightly back out of the toe block, and push through my heels. I also worked in reverse for a couple minutes every ten minutes or so. Problem solved!

Good luck - it's not fun when the numbness hits.

Thanks for all of the responses. I do tend to tighten my shoes pretty tight, so I think loosening them a little prior to jumping on the elliptical may solve the problem. Also maybe doing 30 minute sets instead a full hour at a time will bring back some of the circulation.

I was going to answer something about the shoes being too tight emoticon.

Especially with elliptical, they can be a bit loose and you don't risk twisting anything anyway, because you're not lifting your feet off the "pedals" anyways.

The "Ask the Expert" answer is a good one. The part about lacing your shoes a little looser is definitely true. I find that my feet swell a little more when I do the elliptical than when I do other exercises and lacing my shoes differently helps. Also, listening to pumped up music gives me a little bounce in my step that helps me vary the pressure I put on my feet while doing the elliptical machine.

I find that when my feet get numb, my shoes are tied too tightly. Try loosening the laces a bit.

It's easy to say you're too tired, too stressed, too busy, too this or too that. Too bad. The only way you'll strip away the fat is to start by stripping away the excuses.

Thank you Coach Jen!! Understanding why this happens and what I can do to relieve some of the numbing effect will make my elliptical workouts more enjoyable.

Cheers, Winnie

Here's an Ask the Expert that explains why that happens:

I'm just guessing, but maybe you're on the elliptical for too long. I really have no idea.

I love using the elliptical when I do a gym workout, but I do have a problem once I hit the 45 minute mark.....My feet become numb!! Does anyone else suffer from this issue? Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong to have this issue? I really would appreciate any feedback because I love using the elliptical.

Cheers, Winnie
