I think the recommendation is for a MINIMUM of 48 hours rest between ST sessions, rather than it should be specifically that long.

Waiting 72 hours between workouts will help you recover better and get more out of each work out, but obviously this needs to be traded off against fewer workouts.

It is worth remembering that 3 ST sessions per week will give you 48, 48 and 72 hour breaks, while sticking to 72 hours between sessions (rather than 2 ST sessions every week) will allow you to squeeze in an extra session every 3 weeks.

I do a group power weight lifting class at the local gym and they are done Monday Thursday and Friday of each week. So what you do should be fine.

I do strength training 3 times a week M-W-F, but the session of Wednesdays is an easy one, otherwise I can't recover from the workouts either. Instead of skipping the workout on Wednesday, I have converted it into an easier one.

The general recommendation is 2-3 full body strength sessions per week. So it's fine if you do one on Monday and one on Thursday, for example. You won't lose strength from scheduling your workouts that way.

Hope that helps,

Is it okay to do strength training every 2 days instead of every other day? I know most people say it should be done every other day but I find that I burn out very quickly when I do it that often. I feel much better when I wait 2 days in between. I am trying to lose weight, so I'm worried that waiting too long between sessions will cause me to lose muscle.
