I tried Runkeeper, Mapmyrun, and Endomondo when I first started walking.
Runkeeper is ok but it doesnt have a lot community features. This a must for me.
Mapmyrun has the most features, but I found it to be very complicated to use. After every work out you have to go back and manually edit your route. There are a ton of editing options, but no instructions on how to use them. A couple of youtube vids would be nice. Nice app, but way too technical for me.
Endomondo fit me perfectly. It has 11 million members and is growing fast. You can compete and set challenges against any one of those 11 million. Its really easy to navigate around this app.
