I'm lucky enough to have a gym that is free to all state workers in my Department. It's literally, the first door on the left before going into my office. I've been going 4 out of 5 days a week for 3 weeks with my co-worker, and we've become walking buddies on our lunch breaks as well. (We walk 1 1/2 miles in 30 minutes 5 days a week.) I've talked for weeks about waking up and going to the gym before work. I would say, "Oh, I'll do it tomorrow, or Friday, yeah Friday!" Last night, I decided that there were NO excuses today. I set 3 (YES.... 3!!) alarms for 4:15 this morning, packed my breakfast, lunch, and snacks, and got my gym bag and work clothes together. All 3 alarms went off at once, and I considered turning them off and getting back into my warm bed. I knew how disappointed I would be in myself if I did, so I stayed up, and turned every light on in the room to help me wake up. I brushed my teeth, grabbed my lunch bag, hair tie, and walked out the door. It takes me an hour to get to work, so I made it to the gym just before 6. I did cardio and strength training as part of my usual routine. I finshed at 6:35, had time to shower, change, have breakfast, and I'm still here before anyone else... just waiting for the day to start.
I feel engergized, refreshed, and ready-to-go! It takes a lot more planning to go in the morning, but at least I know that there are no "afternoon excuses" as to why I can't go to the gym after work. I think knowing how hard it was to burn those calories this morning will help me say "NO!" to any "tricks" and treats my co-workers have left over from Halloween throughout the day.
