It depends how bad my cold is. If it's not too extreme, I will still walk inside or outside. Even if it's cold outside I dress warm and get out there for fresh air. I don't jog or do heavy cardio when I have a bad cold. I have discovered that when I exercise on a regular basis, I have fewer colds. I just thinks it's a great cleanser for the body!

I'm just getting over a bad cold and a sinus infection. I did easy work outs when I felt I could do it without my head exploding. I'm so glad to be getting back on track! I'm even happier that I did not gain weight when I cut back my activities. Woo hoo!

Whenever I feel a cold coming on, I go to the gym and get some cardio, sleep more, and take vitamins. That usually squashes it, before it even starts!

Good for you! I need to walk more and always seem to have an excuse. So I park at the back of a parking lot, take the stairs and anything for more walking.

If I am congested to the point where I can barely breathe then I skip working out. A lot of times when I'm sick I barely have enough energy to do the basic movements I have to do each day but I still try to get in those 10 minutes of at least walking.

I will continue to exercise with a minor cold. But, if I have a fever or something worst; then I would just get some rest. As some others pointed out already, you have to listen to your body.

I think you should lay off the heavy workouts when you have a cold. Your body sends you signals to let you know what it needs. The trick is to listen to your body. I you are sick the body needs rest and TLC. You have your health you have your wealth.

I have a cold right now, and it will not go away. What I do is cut down on the heavy breathing excersies. Go more for flexability and toning. Somewhere in the middle I'll do high intensity exercise for ten minutes to up the heart rate then hit the steam room.

I haven't had a cold for several yrs. but when I did, I had to go to bed as it usually turned in to pneumonia so thus I wouldn't exercise until feeling better.

If I am running a fever, I don't work out. Otherwise I do something. Usually I find it makes me feel better and less congested. My doctor tells me that is because exercise produces antihistamines (but then later in the day this effect wears off).I agree with the advice that you know best what your body needs

It depends on my frame of mind. I really enjoy exercise, and if I got a cold I would be more inclined now to try to go to the gym (or do that bike ride, or the walk...or whatever I would normally be doing that day). I would feel restless if I missed some form of exercise.

Before I got into exercising, I would use the cold as an excuse not to exercise. I would probably wind up taking several days off - up to a week, and then have trouble getting back into my routine.

I agree with the posters who say we must listen to our bodies and that some times rest is what will help us heal, but I also know myself well enough to take a closer look and make sure I'm not using a cold (or a lack of sleep on some days, or a very busy schedule) as an excuse not to take the time and move my body.

I am getting better at choosing exercise! That being said, on the days when I realize I am not performing optimally, I take it easy and don't push myself. Usually I am back to normal the next day and I feel much better.

It depends on how bad you feel. For me, if I don't need to stay in bed (meaning have really bad fever), I try to exercise without pushing it too much. After the workout I feel much better. The only problem that I usually have is that I cannot breathe well as my nose is stuffed or running, so I get out of breath quickly. That said, if I run, I go slower than the usual, but try to do the same time; if I do a different workout, I just try to do everything without pushing myself to the limit. I feel that I get better sooner when I exercise!
I hope that helps.

Even with my asthma, I do exercise, regardless. I just do low intensity workouts. I don't want to break my routine or habits. Instead, I might choose yoga vs aerobic.

I usually exercise through a cold although I may take it easier depending on how I feel. If it's really bad, I rest. You can usually tell when it is time to push through or to rest if you really pay attention to how your body feels.

I usually don't change my routine when I have a cold (unless it's one that puts you in the bed) because I just don't have time to stop. But I mostly still exercise, I don't walk outside but that's when I use my videos.

The best advice has been given: listen to your body. More often than not, we ignore the body's distress signal and continue exercising because we either "believe it will make us feel better" or "view the situation as critical when we miss one day of exercise". When the resistance of a body is compromised, there is no way that sticking to the usual routine will make things any better for us. We have to do something about it and in this situation, our grandmothers were right when they declared that all we needed were: lots of rest and hot soup!!

I think you know if you have the strength to exercise.

Take what you can, and let the rest go by.

Listen to your body to know the pace and when to stop.

Be soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let the pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place. - Kurt Vonnegut.

I developed a sore throat yesterday and today it's turning into a cold. I feel OK one minute, then the next I feel a little light headed and whoozy.

I didn't work out yesterday when I felt the sore throat coming on because I was coughing alot, but this morning I did a workout: 40 minutes cardio and and some compound strength exercises with my hand weights.

I did fairly well, but obviously didn't perform to my best.

I'm glad I made the effort though, but I won't force myself if I really can't face it.

Please read my ticker backwards as I am trying to gain weight.

You can feel anywhere from a little....eh! to.....OMG I feel absolutely miserable!!! For me, until my recent surgery, I always did 10 minutes of SOMETHING, even if it meant crawling out of bed & walking or running in place for 10 minutes, then crawling back into bed. That's how I had more than two years straight of exercising every day, regardless. emoticon emoticon

If you haven't eaten much in days, I wouldn't exercise. I tend to be very cautious for myself because any cold can hit my chest and become bronchitis.

I try to do what feels comfortable, if my chest is congested, i don't attempt to run, but I may walk for cardio, at whatever pace feels comfortable. If I feel too sick to eat, I don't exercise, since I know my body needs fuel to burn.

When I have a cold I rest and do not exercise. I know my body needs to heal and take it easy.
I drink lots of water and take vitamin c and rest. It works for me!

Sometimes I do exercise with a cold and I feel alot better. I just take notice if I am feeling dizzy or can't breath.
Factually right now I am not exercising because I am unmotivated. boo.

I know myself well enough that if I'm sick - rest is what I need. Even with just a head cold.

No! When I'm ill, I do not exercise. I go for a walk, ok. But I don't run.

I had a pericarditis 10 years ago caused of exercising with an cold and hell, I NEVER want this again! It knocked me out for months.

I am having the same problem right now. I have found that if you feel well enough go do something but maybe don't push yourself as hard. If your body gets worn out it can't properly heal. I think I will go for a walk this afternoon if I am feeling all right.

It does depend on how I feel. But I have found that if it's just a head cold, and I push myself to push play and DO a workout. I Feel SO MUCH better afterwards. LIke I actually clear up and feel good.

When you have a cold, do you still make an attempt to exercise? If so, do you do the minimum or do you push yourself?

(I have a cold right now... I haven't exercised in a week except for a short walk over the weekend, but I also haven't felt like eating more than a few bites here and there.)

Do you slowly get yourself back to your normal routine or do you jump right back to it once you start to feel some better?
