Yep, Joyce is still around. The three DVDs I mentioned in my first post in the thread were filmed in 2004, when she was 62. (She still has a body most 20 year olds would envy.) From what I understand, she is working on mobile versions of some of her workouts for ipad and phone -- and she is 68!

Joyce is definitely one of my fitness heroes, and she keeps abreast of current trends in strength training, which I think is awesome.

Hmm

I am dating myself but I remember when Joyce Vedral was about the only woman advocating heavy weight training for women in her books and VHS tapes. Was not aware she was still around and training women.

It is called WORK-ing out for a reason.

I said getting fit was simple, I did not say it was easy.

Cardio burns calories, strength work burns fat.

Eat well to lose weight, exercise to get fit

You can not build a six pack using twelve packs

I recommend starting with the three DVDs i mentioned. All can be adapted to using stability ball or mat, and in those three she works out with her daughter Marthe. I like it when Joyce works out with Marthe for two reasons:

1) Marthe counts out the repetitions. Joyce by herself doesn't stay on count very well. :)

2) When Joyce works out with Marthe, she usually has a slight pause as she shifts weights and/or positions to make certain that Marthe is with her. That slight pause gives *me* enough time to shift weights and/or positions too.

The other DVD I have of Joyce's is the Definition one. It's also very good, but Joyce shifts weights too fast for me to keep up. I'm always missing reps in trying to keep up with her, or having to have my 9 year old operate the remote to pause Joyce long enough for me to catch up. (He seems to enjoy the game, though.) The nice thing about the Definition one is that there is a variety of ways to use it, but it is harder to use the stability ball as a bench with that one because of the speed at which she shifts positions.

If you are looking to buy DVDs right now, Joyce's website has a sale going on until July 5th. Here is what Joyce said in the email I got:

"If you buy any DVD today through July 5th you can have a free DVD. All you have to do is write the name of the Free DVD in the ORDER COMMENTS box that comes up at the end of the ordering process.

You can also buy 2 and get 2 freee or buy 3 and get 3 freee and so on.
Click on this link https://store.joycevedral.com to get started! Love Joyce"

A buy one, get one free deal is a good way to stock up!

I love Joyce Vedral's videos! I've been rotating my strength workouts to try to induce muscle confusion, so I have been rotating between several Vedral workouts and some of the workouts in the Spark People 28 Day Bootcamp DVD.

I don't have a bench anymore so I use a stability ball or a mat for all the bench exercises and that seems to work okay. While I don't think that her workouts can be done in a closet (at least, not any of my closets...) they don't take much space. We've got a remodeling project going on in our house, so our living room is full of furniture that doesn't normally go there. If I can workout in that cramped space, you should be able to do it in a small apartment.

My favorite DVDs of hers are:
Quick Quartet
On the Ball
Speedy Non-Stop

I like those because I enjoy the quick, no-rest pyramid style workout. I also love the diversity of moves she uses.

What Joyce Vedral workouts do you use?

Hmm

Thank you! I did send Joyce an e-mail and she said her videos can be done in a closet, they require that little room! I do think you're right though, I seem to remember having a weight bench when doing the videos before. I may have to look for a foldable type bench. I'm fairly positive I'm going to pick up a couple videos again!

I have not seen any of her videos,I do have 2 of her workout books.I do remember needing an incline bench,weights..I really think you can make up your own props,as long as they are safe and sturdy. My workout station was in our spare bedroom,it took up a very small section of the room.I think I will check her videos out.

Anyone have experience with her videos? I remember using them several years ago and they were working for me, but I can't remember if you need to have a lot of room to move around. I live in a very small apartment and have virtually no space to move around in!
