I just read this post. If you are still looking for a 30H Freya. They are good quality. A lot of the customers I help at the lingerie store I work at really like them. They do bras, sports bras, and some swimwear that goes by cup sizes. If you still struggling, you can buy a 32GG provided the cup fits and then have the band altered to a 30 by a seamstress or if you are handy with a needle and thread you can do it yourself. Some other brands that you might be interested in are Fantasie of England and Elomi.

I saw Junonia.com mentioned once. I have gotten a lot of stuff from them and have been very happy. They have everything -- running/walking; biking (just try to find plus-sized padded bike shorts at Old Navy); golf; tennis; pool (lots of chlorine-resistant suits and even triathlon singlets); skiing...Their tagline is "Dedicated to the Lives of Active Women." Nice.

Their stuff is expensive, though, because it is good quality. I think investing in good clothes that won't need to be replaced is an investment in my health. That said, they have good sales so check out the clearance and Juno's closet on the site.

Hope this helps.

Great to see all your suggestions - online and off.

I have not really been interested in shopping or styles for most of my life. I'm 61 - still wear jeans all the time except when I am at work - then I wear the same zipfront style but dressier fabric along with knit tops.

I have two fashion "wants".
I'd love to find some 1960's vintage styles in plus sizes. Seems like clothes had more "style" then - darts and seams that flattered etc. Good colors.
I need resources for very large cup size bras. I am wearing a very worn out Goddess 44H underwire - any body else struggling with this issue?

Thanks for posting!

All you need is love.

Our Walmart has drastically cut back o their atheltic wear. They have some danskin yoga pants, but nothing moisture-wicking, no warm up jackets, and some shorts - even int the men's dept.
Target here is a joke - ours go to XL - no bigger.
I'd like to find some walking tights so I can get out in the cooler weather, but I cannot afford $90 for a pair. Its difficult to find long-sleeve moisture-wicking t's that fit over my girls - have to go with a 1-2x.
Its very discouraging...

Many UK catalogues cater only for certain things, and few of them cater for sportswear for larger frontages!
But they are usually very helpful and will suggest other companies to try, if you email them. I did so at one point, and got some very helpful replies. Unfortunately I can't remember which were the catalogues I emailed, and which were their suggestions, as I never found anything to suit. I am big round the way, and big at the front too, so definitely a "larger size"!

I usually get good things from Amazon. DEB is great also, but their selection is not as big. Avenue has nice athletic wear, but most is out of my price range- except clearance. And I have luck in stores like Ross, Marshalls/T.J. Maxx, and Conway.emoticon

Hello, I am in the UK and just recently bought a couple sports bras I'm quite pleased with online at brastop.com as they specialise in sizes D-K. You might have a look there and see what they've got. I have the Freya Active with underwire and it's great. Very supportive and suitable for all activities that I can think of.

I mentioned before that I do seamstress work. If u sew a swatch of material onto the inside of your pants band, you can use it as a hidden pocket for the barest essentials during a workout.

Lane Bryant is pricy..Walmart is ok but be careful, some brands such as Danskin run on the smaller side so may need the next largest size for comfort.

I have had quite a few people give me their workout clothes as they lost weight. I do check freecycle.com and craigslist for when I need some items. Completely agree with the prior comments on Lane Bryant regarding price & quality.

Bought men's cross training shoes at Target and have been very pleased!

Thanks for a great topic!

I see Mamanellnell suggested for UK gals to go to simplybe. I wonder if anyone here from the UK has any experience buying sports bras on-line and if they have found theirs very good. I have looked at the ones on simplybe and they seem to have a fair selection in my size (I am small round the back but generous round the front). I have problems buying properly fitted ordinary bras let alone sports bras, being well endowed, so any help that can be given would be appreciated. I've read that I should go for an underwired sports bra with hooks and eyes round the back. Many thanks.

I would also suggest for those who do turn to mens clothing (which is a viable option) To find a lower priced seamstress in your area. I am one and alter all of the clothing I buy because just as with the lus size clothing for workouts, they do not seem to think that anyone overweight should have children without wearing mumuus the entire pregnancy!

I actually get most of my workout wear from Walmart...sports bras, cotton socks, and men's shorts and shirts. Men's gear is very comfortable and has big pockets for my keys, mp3 player, etc. Most women's workout shorts/pants have NO pockets. Stylish, but not helpful.

I buy my athletic shoes from Kohls or Penneys. May start to shop at an athletic shoe store, though, to get higher quality. But Walmart's men's department is the key. I even buy sports hats to shade my face from the sun there. HTH emoticon

I have to wonder, though, why clothing manufacturer's think that people needing plus size clothes don't need exercise clothes. What a market they have available if they would get into it more!

I'm so glad I came across this. Before developing a hormonal issue that helped my weight sky rocket 10 years ago, I had no problem finding work out clothes. But, now that I have to wear plus size clothes, I can't find anything. I will definitely try some of the suggestions here.

Junonia.com has a large selection for plus sized workout clothing. They also have swim suits and a fair selection of other items. They aren't cheap, but they aren't cheaply made either.

I do sometimes buy men's workout shorts. I don't get why women's workout shorts are so crazy short. Nobody needs to see my jiggly thighs!

Of course, men's shorts often go the other way. All the way down to the bottom of the knees, which is also NOT a good look for anyone. But at least if I look hard enough I can find men's workout shorts that come to at least mid-thigh or just above the knee.

Somebody was asking about shoes. My favorite brands are Keen and Mizuno. I usually prefer to buy shoes in person, but I do online order fairly often. When I do, I use Zappos.com (free shipping and returns) and Amazon Warehouse Deals. Amazon Warehouse Deals sells shoes that have been returned after having been tried on. I'm guessing they're Zappos returns, since Amazon has acquired Zappos. So what you'll see on Warehouse Deals is a single size of a particular brand and style. It's just fun to scan through and see what you can find in your size. If you do find something, it's WAY less than the normal price; about half a lot of the time. So far, I've bought two pairs of these Warehouse Deals shoes and had no problem at all with them.

I agree with the suggestion to wash your workout clothes and bras inside out in cold water then line dry. Even my jeans are washed in this manner to keep their "blue" appearance longer.

If you live in WA state, Lane Bryants is great for larger ladies. Needed a bra - not only did they fit my size, but it was a buy one get one free deal. They are most likely on line, but the one I went to is in Redmond, WA. The ladies are all curvy and very nice and understanding too. No, I don't work there.....emoticon

I also have to say that the Enell bra is amazing. I also have a large chest and never liked running because no other bra held things in place. This bra holds everything in place and makes my cardio workouts, including running, so much more enjoyable!

Also check out Old Navy for workout clothes in plus sizes.

I tried ordering an Enell bra, and it works well enough so I can now jog and do jumping jacks, which was unthinkable before. According to my measurements, if my size existed, it would be about a 30H, not an easy thing to find on a store rack. As for other workout clothes, I found one pair of workout pants on the clearance rack at Walmarts, one on sale at Goodies and one at a garage sale. I am trying not to spend large amounts of money unless it is absolutely necessary, as it seems to be with bras, but not so much with the shirts and pants.

I also live in a small town...and shoes are a real problem.

You might try runnersworld.com and check out their shoe finder. You put in information and they recommend shoes that might work. What I do is get the list of what they think might work, then order them from Zappos, free shipping both ways, until I find something that I can live with.

and, yes, there is a difference between men's lasts and women's lasts, but if your feet are big enough (like mine!) men's shoes can work as well as women's!

Hi MRSKATE! I've always had bad luck with sports bras, but this article (http://jezebel.com/5863797/worth-it--a-sports-bra-to-keep-unruly-boobs-at-bay) convinced me to give the bra described a shot. I am a HUGE fan. Not only does it reduce the bounce to almost nothing, it's comfortable enough to sleep in. Plus it's available in a wide range of sizes. I'm a 38E in regular bras, but the 38DD fits perfectly with no overhang.

Someone else said it first, so I just thought I would say Lane Bryant has this brand online.
I ordered 4, with a buy one get one free sale. I was not sure of the size I would take so I ordered two in each size, 42dd and 44dd.
Since my order was now over $50, I got to take off an additional % and got free shipping.
So this $46 bra ended up costing me about $16 each. Then I returned the two that did not fit as well to the store. With Lane Bryant it is all about sales and coupons!

For a no wire bra Glamorise is the best I have found that actually DOES have support and holds you in place!

Here is what was written before...

Glamorise makes a sports bra that you can adjust (it has an inner soft cup bra, with an adjustable mesh panel over top) based on the bounce control you need for the activity. I was able to get it in a 40 G. It has no underwire so it is comfortable for a lot of bending and flexing. They have other models as well, but I wanted the extra support that this provided and I have been extremely happy.

JC Penny's has a brand called Made for Life. Very cute, washes well, lasts long and much cheaper than the Nike, Reebok that I used to buy. Go to the store and try on some and then go online and compare prices. Bought new shorts today for $7 a piece. The Made for Life sports bras give me a lot of support. Having a bigger bust size I need all the support I can get!

This was a reply to a post by GIGISINGS68, but I don't think I did it correctly so I will add her name here.

I posted about the clothes at WomanWithin.com, but I also mentioned BareNecessities.com.

I have purchased several bras from Bare Necessities and have been pleased with the fit and the brands offered. I have gotten both underwire and wireless from this company.

Woman Within has a good selection of bras some ranging up to 54 DDD and 54G in fashionable fabrics and colors, but I have never purchased bras from that company.

Like you, I used to shop at Lane Bryant, but got really upset by the higher prices they were charging for such poor quality goods. I don't even go in the store at sale time anymore.

Well, I hope this helps you.

I found a company called WomanWithin.com that carries S-1X and 2X-5X at prices comparable to Walmart. Not only do they have sweats and workout clothes, they have over a hundred styles of swim suits online. They carry 2X-5X clothing like dresses, blouses, and pants too. When you sign up on line, they send you codes for free shipping and free returns plus special sales news.
The other web site where I have purchased a number of 46C bras from from is BareNecessities.com. They carry bras and swim suits that are larger than that, but I thought they were a little higher priced than WomanWithin.
Hope this helps.

I was really excited recently when I saw that workout clothes were super cheap on the clearance rack at Wal-Mart. Then I realized that most of the clothes were sizes 4/5 and with very little exception topped out at size 10. There were a couple size 16 tanks, and anything else that would fit was knit or sweats--not exactly what I need to start working out during summer in Texas.

Still, what I got was $1-$5, and it's a good start for some post-pregnancy workout clothes.

Walmart has the just my size line that are pretty nice. Also, "just my size" has a website where they have their brand stuff and also carry "Champion" brand plus size clothing. I did find that the Champion sizing seems to run a little small.

There is also a great website called Junonia.com. They have an excellent selection of plus size women's work out gear and very good quality for all different types of sports including winter sports etc. BEWARE...they are very expensive...but the other side of that is you get what you pay for. I am waiting till I get to a more stable weight before I spend that kind of money. Also, Roamans.com and womanwithin.com they are starting to carry athletic gear too.

Great topic! I used to get everything at Lane Bryant but the last few years their prices continue to rise and the quality has drastically decreased!!! They still have the most comfy undies I've ever worn but instead of a year, they last about 3-4 months now and their bra's used to be very comfy too but the straps won't stay up anymore and even though I've been fitted, it certainly doesn't fit comfortably anymore. I've been trying to find a new place to buy my undergarments and so far haven't found anywhere else that I like as much. I've looked all over and have tried a few other things but it's hard to buy things like a bra online and haven't had any luck at stores...yet.

You might look at Athleta - the catalog has skinny minnies in it, but the sizing on several things can go up to a 3X. Also, they have a good solid selection of workout bras.
