"36.20 minutes. Is that good...bad....average" It depends. Some people would be thrilled with this time, others would be disappointed.

I agree with what others have said and don't worry too much about how fast you are compared to others. For my first 5K last month my main goal was just to finish the race! Then I looked at how fast I had been running while training and used that as a guide to set a realistic time goal for myself. I finished the race and beat my time goal by 1:27 so I was thrilled!

And as far as the Warrior Dash is concerned, don't count on a fast finishing time. The obstacles will sure slow you down.

There's no reason to compare yourself to any other runners. I've been running for almost 6 years and I may be faster than others and I may be slower than others. My goals may be different from someone else's, whether running for distance or maybe you're running for time or just to finish. You're overthinking this entirely; just do what you can. Maybe because you're not a runner necessarily, your goal is just to finish or to run the whole thing. Focus on that and don't worry about the rest.

I walked/ran my first 5k and it took me about 44 minutes. I didn't do a Couch to 5k or 5k your way program. I just walked/ran on my treadmill which meant I wasn't used to the heat and humidity which challenged me too.

The goal is to finish and have fun like others have said! As soon as I can run a 5k without stopping I plan on doing a warrior run. I would love to hear about how your 1st warrior run went!

As others have said, you can't really compare yourself to others. Personally, I can't even compare myself to, well, myself, these days because I have gotten REALLY slow by my standards, All that matters is finishing.

Also, since the Warrior Dash is an adventure race with obstacles, It may very well take longer than a regular road race.

I am a slow runner (by my standards) - I average around 10:00 miles (faster when cooler, slower... much slower, when warmer). That being said, my first 5k was around 36 minutes, two years later, I've gotten it under 30:00 minutes.

Warrior Dash is much, much different. I don't recommend going into it trying to PR - go to have fun! That's why you pay the cray 70.00 entrance fee or whatever it is. Warrior Dash isn't really just a flat course 5k. It's an obstacle course - where some of those obstacles will slow you down! In mine we had to climb up a very muddy hill and everyone was slipping down, It probably took 3 minutes just to do that.

ENJOY warrior dash - it's meant to be a cray, fun filled race - but I wouldn't go into it expecting to make great running time.

Speed and distance are accidents of genetics and training. Running is about having heart. While it is nice to know where you fit in the grand scale, it is really about doing your best and having fun.

Good running and be Careful out there

A couple of days ago I did a 10k in 58:58... It is not the same, but if you divide it by 2, you get 29:29... I am 42, and a male.

My first 5K time was 42 minutes.

I don't think there is anything wrong with seeing what everyone else can do. I looked at the results of my 5K to see how fast the other ladies in my age group were... This seems like a more international version of what I did.

When you do the Warrior Dash, make sure you just focus on having fun getting through the challenges, not worrying about your time. I've done a similar race that is a 5 mile cross country run through bogs that suck your shoes off and trying to climb steep hills covered in ice etc. It took me a good 30 minutes longer to complete than I would normally run 5 miles because of the challenges. Anyway, good luck with your race and if you start feeling down about your time, just think of all the people who are slower than you who DIDN'T show up!

It takes 3.1 miles, same as everybody.

Seriously, there's no benefit in comparing yourself. You will not be the slowest, and at least in the first few, you won't be the fastest.

I used to be disappointed because I was always in the lower half of my age group. Then it occurred to me that I was in the lower half of people my age WHO CAN RUN 3 MILES! Just remember that-- you can run 3 miles.

I haven't tried to really up my speed so much since I just started running about 4 months ago. But I can easily do a 5k on the treadmill in 45 minutes. And the treadmill is probably the easiest platform to run when at a steady 1.5 incline. Since I am now using the variable program on it and can get up to 4.5 mph and 5 degree incline, I am still doing 5K in 45 minutes. I say that anything faster than that is a nice clip and one that one can enjoy (but not win) and 5K. If I did the mud run like Coach Nancy did, they would either use the sun dial to time me, or the radar gun as the ambulance went by taking me to the hospital. LOL

I question, therefore I think; I think, therefore I am; ........ I think?

Hi SUNSHINEJK,

Try not to compare yourself to other runners. While I know it's nice to know what other runners finish a particular race in, the Warrior Dash is unlike any 5K you'll do as there are so many different obstacles to complete. I can run a 5K in 27 minutes, but when I did the 5K mud run it took me well over an hour...the reason, the obstacles take time.

I hope you have fun!!!

Coach Nancy

I am doing the Warrior Dash in June. I am wondering how long it takes the average person to run a 5K? I ran 5.1K today, and it took me 36.20 minutes. Is that good...bad....average? I did stop to walk a couple times. I am NOT a runner...my choice of fitness is karate and kickboxing.
