Decide on one small thing that you can do right this minute and then do it. Then make an agreement with yourself to do it again tomorrow. Many baby steps add up to big changes!

Thanks for your post. I am new here (started today) and felt like I was reading about myself. Still thinking about what exercise is for me but I feel the first and hardest step has been done by commiting myself to this plan. I do think reading posts and seeing others here doing well will help me to my goal.

Thanks for all the god suggestions! I do the I'll start tomorrow game. I get so annoyed with myself! It's maddening!!!!! The part that really annoys me is that I know what to do. I don't do it then the cycle starts over again. I feel stuck. Your posts are great! I'm going to start small and go from there.emoticon

I read this here on SP and I wish I could remember who said it so I could give proper credit....

" It's like driving a car. If I were to accidentally drive through a red light, I would probably have to pull over and thank my lucky stars that no one got hurt. I would admonish myself to be more careful. I would NOT say oh, well I guess this is just going to be an "unsafe day" and then drive through all the red lights, thinking I'll be safe tomorrow. NO, you would be EXTRA safe from that moment.

Same with eating. If I eat a candy bar, I don't just say "oh well." Instead I will reflect on why I made that choice and try to learn from it. I will forgive myself and be extra careful for the rest of the day. "

I agree with the OP's. Do something, Anything! But do it today and don't wait for tomorrow. Your body needs to be active to be able get you through your days more efficiently. Your body will reward you and you will thank yourself when you start to see results because of you putting yourself/health first.

I suggest you make a list of reasons why starting tomorrow is better than startigng now.

If you're anything like me, they would be frivolous, whiny reasons. My reasons would all be lame and writing them down would just drive that home for me.

It's not too hard. There's nothing more important than your health. Even if you have kids, what are they going to do if you're not here anymore?

I read this yesterday and I took every single post to heart, especially the one about "I have a thing about starting on Mondays or the 1st of the Month".....that's ME! But I decided that even after having a high calorie, high fat breakfast yesterday, I'm going to finish the day strong. And I did - drank my 64 oz of water, ate fruits and veggies.

I got up this morning and worked out. All you have to do is ask yourself "are you worth it?". If the answer is yes - why put off tomorrow what you can get done TODAY!

Think It, Believe It, & Be It

You have to want to do this for yourself! On top of wanting it for yourself think of someone or something else you want to do it for. I've been putting it of since new years and I finally just started 2 days ago. What really pushed me is we went on a beach vacation and I got worn out way to fast, I decided if I want to be able to travel more like I want then I need to eat better and get this extra 23 pounds off. I just started the insanity workout it gets you so pumped up and it has the fit test to do every to weeks so you can see your progress. The guy always says DIG DEEPER when you feel tired. Its tough, but you have to push yourself. I wish you luck!

I always tell myself "As soon as that little voice inside your head says 'I'll start again tomorrow', block him out, because that voice will kill you!". It's okay to slip up - we're only human! But if you keep putting healthy living off when will it stop? "I'll start tomorrow", "I'll start Monday", "I'll start when I get paid" or "It's nearly Christmas, I'll start in New Year".
We can do it guys :) If you've slipped up, you've slipped up once, there's no need to write the entire day off for one donut or one naughty chocolate bar...

And another thing that helps me is that I never restrict myself to the point of stupidity. There's a certain week in every month that I just CRAVE chocolate! So I let myself eat it. One fun size bar a day (or one chocolate bar cut into 7 pieces and put in a ziplock bag to eat during the week) is enough to satisfy my cravings, and because I've allowed myself a little treat I don't feel guilty so don't feel the need to fall into that voices trap.

Hope this helps someone!
xx

If it helps any, I started exercising on May 2nd after stalling for months (years?). I knew I wanted to try riding my bike (because it sounded fun), but when I did that first day I was looking for any excuse to not start. But the day was nice, I had the time, my husband had fixed my flat tire, there was nothing to stop me. Then I started riding....and I couldnt even make it around our block. I was sick, winded, angry, disgusted and frustrated.

Despite this...I did it again the next day and that time I made it around the entire block (a mile loop) - in 9 minutes (a pretty slow rate). I made a deal with myself to try it for a week. By the end of the week I could ride around the block 3x and my riding time was about 8 minutes.

Now just 5 weeks later I have lost 13 lbs, I can ride 6-8 miles at a 6.5 min/mile speed. I look forward to my ride and get really aggrivated if I cant ride on a certain day. I ride everyday and love it.

Ive always HATED exercise, but now I think I just hadnt found the exercise that was right for me. I dont like working out in front of a TV or walking around the block. I get bored. But riding the bike works for me.

Does anything sound fun to you? Maybe just tell yourself you'll do it for a week. Once you build some energy you might find you want to do it more.

I heard two great quotes that have gotten me motivated these past few weeks:
1) Discipline means doing it even when you dont want to.
2) This time next year you'll wish you had started today.

Anyway, hope this helps. Good luck!

I was the same, tomorrow. 5 months passed, still I kept saying I'll start tomorrow. Then I read the posts here, and realized I had to start today! Yesterday and Monday I walked 30 minutes and today I am sore. I was really sedentary. I hope it goes away, I don't want to stop moving now.

2 things:

1. Keep your word to yourself and actually start tomorrow.

2.Remind yourself that today is actually yesterdays' tomorrow... you need to start TODAY. Do something.... walk, push ups, squats... something.

Start as soon as you can - next morning, next meal, next minute. I found that on days I don't feel like working out and I make myself do it anyway, I am more productive in my session. If I let myself off the hook for a day, it turns out to be the next day and the next so I hop to it!

No matter how slow you go, you're still lapping everyone sitting on the couch.

This was my mantra, I swear! I saw the weight creeping on, and it was always oh it's only a few pounds I'll just start eating better after the weekend, or I'll start exercising tomorrow when I'm not so tired. What really got to me was something I saw on a blog: a month is going to pass whether you do it or not. I'm tired of just letting time pass me by and saying that one day I want to accomplish my goals ... I'm going to start accomplishing them now!!

Never put off till tomorrow what would best be started today - if you wait you'll lose the "spark" and motivation you're feeling at that moment. I always try to remember that the first step is always the hardest but once I start moving it's easier to keep going.

Just Do It! Don't put off till tomorrow what you can do today. Do some activity that is more than your current activity, if you normally sit, stand, if you normally stand, walk,..hike,..swim...stairs...something, just get moving. emoticon(for those TV watchers, try this one while you watch)

No kidding on the procrastination. This is the only area of my life I do that. Otherwise I just get it done, get on with it. But I truly hate exercise and always will. I know, they say to find something you like. Well, I like to read and that does not do much for a big behind! So I think I will get a dance video or something fun. I can jump around and no one will see me like they do at health clubs. I did that route forever, even a personal trainer, and did not lose a pound. It was so demoralizing and expensive. So I will do something fun this time and like most of you said: Just do it. emoticon

Be all that you can be and God will give you credit for the rest.

baby steps! Don't pick a day to start, just ease into it! I'm just coming back after regaining some of the weight I lost and I started out by telling myself to just log the calories, without worrying about if I hit a calorie target. Just logging the food is my only starting goal. I've definitely been "one step forward, two steps back", but I make an effort to focus on the forward steps. Tracking calories for two days in one week is actually a pretty good effort if I hadn't been doing it for months! This way, it doesn't feel like I'm "starting my diet" at all, which feels like such a big deal. But I find that by doing these baby steps, I'll gradually get more and more motivated. I'll start being more conscious of what I eat, then trying to hit a target calorie goal. I'll start exercising more and then trying to push myself towards goals there, too. Before I know it, I've "started my program"! Good luck!

I fell asleep without doing my core exercises last night. I was so tempted to say just go to work, you'll do them later. Then I looked at my ball and stopped myself.
I did the workout!

The way I ended the "starting tomorrow" or "I'll start Monday" nonsense was when I had a few life-changing moments. The first one was traveling via airplane. It was so uncomfortable, and cramped. I couldn't put the armrest down because I was too big. The second one was going to the doctor and hearing her announce my weight to me as if I didn't know. The third was seeing some recent pictures of myself at a baby shower.

The combination of these things happening within the same time-frame motivated me to stop putting it off until Monday. I think the only way you can truly end the "I'll start tomorrow" game is if you are really ready to do something about it.

Sometimes you just got to get up and do it even though you don't feel like it. Eventually, if you keep doing it, it will become a habit and you just do it naturally without forcing yourself.

The only thing you can't get back is time. So I made up my mind to stop wasting it on plans for the future and turn my future into my PRESENT. Time is precious and if we keep putting off our health related goals, our time maybe cut short.

1. Stop planning and do it. Sometimes starting slow is a good way to start. So if its Sunday or the middle of the month. (I have this thing about starting things on a Monday or the 1st of the month) I start with something I can easily do and then make a plan in my head while I do it for the next time.
2. Get in the habit of doing it when you think of it. Use the rule when you do everything so it becomes second nature. Like doing chores, drinking water or brushing teeth.

(I have this thing about starting things on a Monday or the 1st of the month) I start with something I can easily do and then make a plan in my head while I do it for the next time.
2. Get in the habit of doing it when you think of it. Use the rule when you do everything so it becomes second nature. Like doing chores, drinking water or brushing teeth.

all I can say is 'outdoor swimming pool' best way to do now (ok after work) instead of tomorrow.. sunshine and water 2 favourite things and hopefully by the end of summer won't need the bribe of outside swimming to go to the gym.

Although I've been working out for some time, we all get days like this.
Today, for instance, I fell asleep in the chair until 8:45 which is late for me and being as tired as I was, I had to force myself to work out. I know that exercise will give me more energy and that if I didn't do it, I would have been sluggish all day. I might have picked up a bit when I walked to work later on but it's not enough for me. But, the days I don't work out at home, my walk to work does count.
It's been said, even 3 x10 mins. per day is considered a good starting point and a workout too.
You will feel better, just make yourself. Even if it is only 10 mins. Then, increase it to 12 then 15 then soon, you'll be enjoying it. emoticon

For someone like me, after you say this long enough it finally hits you that years have gone by with you saying on "I'll start tomorrow" and you just need to act right away and get the ball rolling!!!

Procrasinator that I am, I flipped my daily devotional calendar this morning (a day late) to find this pearl of wisdom "You can't get much done by starting tomorrow" It's so fitting for me that I posted it to my desktop so I will see it every time I log on to my laptop.

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain.
