Start dressing in your workout clothes first thing in the morning. I used to do the same thing and when I started doing that it gave me that motivation to get to the gym.

I work from home and it can be really hard to make myself work out instead of going straight to work, especially when I have deadlines looming.

I find that if I get dressed for my workout before I drive the kids to school, then it's much easier to get my workout in early in the day, and then the rest of the day I can relax knowing I have it done.

Everyone's schedule is different, of course, but this is what works for me.

HBO had a special on earlier this week called "Weight of the Nation." really made me reconsider how i want to treat my body. My boyfriend and I couldn't help but start eating better immediately!

Judith Beck, PhD says in "The BECK Diet Solution" that you have to start at the next meal, not the NEXT DAY. (We have a Beck Team here. I got her book from the library.) She has stayed slim for over 20 years.

Roger Gould, M.D. says in "SHRINK YOURSELF" (there is a Team here as well) that STRESS is what causes us to regain and we must learn to deal with stress. He teaches how to tell tha voice in your head "Harriet" to SHUT UP, as she is always a liar. "Oh, you can start tomorrow, etc." You have to talk back to her.

Good for you getting off the computer and just doing it!

I agree that laying out your workout clothes and putting them on first thing is a great idea. Works for me.

One more thought...

I have lost 100lbs twice before by eating healthy and working out. I can beat this weight anytime I want was at the back of my mind. I know how to do it. I will work hard tomorrow.

Then tomorrow came and I woke up with rheumatoid arthritis. Don't put it off. You never know what tomorrow holds.

I don't know how many "last dinners" I have made for my husband before he made up his mind that he was serious. Every person has to decide when the time is right to start losing weight and the reasons for it. Then the timing becomes "I'll do it now" Until the decision is made that the weight must come off, and why, the time will always be tomorrow.

Spark streaks are simply the time that you have "in a row" have done something" Drank 8 glasses of water, logged on and tracked food, etc. You get points for streaks. What you do with the points, well, that is a whole different question!

And like my sister once said to me.....I thought about starting a diet two weeks ago, but never did. The only thing I lost was 14 days.

Don't overwhelm yourself with huge goals. Get up an start the walk, if you quit early - no problem each small step forward is good. When I first started I just did a couple of weight lifting exercises each day. Just get into the routine and move on from there.

I use to procrastinate all the time especially when it came to exercise. Until I realize all those "I'll do it tomorrow" never happened. My life was slipping by me and my procrastination. I realized I had to change at least when it came to the things I can control like exercise. My "I;'ll do it tomorrow " has become "I will do it now". I have lost almost 30 pounds and feel motivated to keep on going. Just in case if tomorrow never comes.

OH....I'm a cyclical exerciser too!!!!

And after a while, I saw the actual CYCLES over the years...and I learned to accept them as part of my life. It's OK to be in a rut, but you have to evetually grab yourself by the bootstraps and just get back into it.

The good thing is, is that it will feel so good, you won't remember why you stopped in the first place! So just get back into it...even if it's for 10 minutes. 10 minutes will probably lead you into 20 or 30 if you just get moving again!

You can do this!!! Be gentle and kind to yourself....but get going!!!!

- Everyday is a new day, with no mistakes in it.

Maintenance goal range: 145-150 Successfully maintained for one year 7/08-7/09

136-140 Successfully maintained from 12/01/09- 8/31/10

New Maintenance range starting 09/22/10: 130-135

Uber-Ultimate goal: 136 with a healthy BMI has been achieved!!!!! Am now in normal BMI range!

for me, I had to get miserable enough. One day, I was.

Also, what really helped me was knowing and accepting that this was going to take as long as it was going to take, and everything I was going to do had to be something I could always do.
Making excuses wasn't part of it.

Time passes anyway... now it's over 2 years later... MAN I'M GLAD I MADE THAT DECISION TO GET OFF MY A$$ 2+ years ago!!!

I usually have something scheduled to do everyday except for Saturday,so now its a habit.

Personally, I find attending group-based activities is better than doing stuff alone. Especially, If its something I enjoy. I will never miss a class because A) I am paying money B) I get to sociailize C) ) I have variety and don't get bored.

Also, I find that I work out harder when there are other people around. I do some stuff alone but I find I usually don't work out as long or I put it off entirely on some days. Now that I have a schedule, anything I do on my own is extra not my main exercise.

Baby steps work for me: set the timer for 5 or 10 or15minutes, whatever you can convince yourself to do. Next: accountability with a checklist or spark streak.Then, reward (non-food). When i zumba for 15 minutes, then I'll take a bubble bath to clean up,or paint my toe nails, or have a cup of hot tea, or read a book or cruise a workout gear web site. Good for you just doing it!

I did it!
I took the "get of the computer right now and do something" kick and went down to the wii Zumba for 21 minutes.

I like the idea of getting dressed to work out right away in the morning - I'm going to start laying my workout clothes out the night before.

I can't stress enough what everyone has already stated. Just do it! I grew tired of hearing my own voice when I said, "I'll start tomorrow." Well tomorrow grew into weeks and then months. Finally, one day I just got up and exercised. Once the exercising started up again, the eating returned to normal. The treadmill is no longer being used as the clothes hanger. It's in the family room so that I can watch my favorite shows while still interacting with my family. I pack my work gym bag at night to keep me on track during the week and even if I do miss a daytime workout, my family encourages me to work out in the evening. My family is the biggest factor because they remind me of my goal without making me feel guilty when I slip up. I also have a great co-worker who keeps me motivated as she is also an SP member. Once I realized I wasn't alone, the task transformed into a habit which will soon be replaced with "a way of life".

According to your ticker it looks like you have a desire to do a streak of exercise. That's a great start. Lately I've been helping myself get going each day by saying to myself that "it's only 15 minutes (or 30 or 60) of a whole 14 hour day." I can surely commit to 15 minutes and get it over with. Generally once I get going I'll do a little extra. But if I only do those 15 minutes I give myself a pat on the back and say "well done!"

My first thought was, "well just start now!" But then I thought, if it was just that easy then you would have already done it, obviously. There's always a reason why 'now' isn't right and tomorrow is perfect. I swear I'm writing my term paper tomorrow in the exact same way. In other words, yeah right.

Then I thought, well, you need that driving, motivating force. Something that makes getting fit exponentially more important than not getting fit. The right state of mind. Maybe some meditation would help. But that's not it either... You might have all the motivation and desire in the world, but the task is too big, too daunting, it means changes and hard work. And now's not so good anyway.

N16351D got closer to what I actually think. Do little things. If you really think you should be running 30 minutes a day and doing all sorts of strength training and active stuff... well stop thinking that.

Add into your day the things that are recommended everywhere - like stairs instead of elevator, taking a 10 minute walk at lunch, etc. Or tell yourself, "I'm just going to put my work out clothes on, then I can decide whether or not I'm going to work out. OK fine, I'll jog for 5 minutes, then I'll see if I want to keep going. I don't have to." Maybe go out for a walk and tell yourself you can jog parts if you feel like it or not, no pressure.

Make finding and trying new exercises a game - sometimes I'm really amazed at the body weight exercises trainers come up with these days. I can work muscles I didn't even know existed!

Most of the time if I'm feeling like crap but I KNOW I have to get a work out in, I'll just go to the gym and say I don't have to do my best, I just have to do SOMEthing. On my worst days I've had to quit in the middle, but on better days I end up doing the full work out and feeling better at the end. Either way I feel like I really did my best and even what little I put in was better than nothing. Hi TBURBANK -

I think the only thing you've proved is motivational notes all over the house do not motivate you. emoticon

You have to find some way for this to become a habit.
Perhaps you're giving yourself so many options you can't commit to the one thing for the day.

Make up a schedule for yourself for the week.
One day is the DVD (doesn't matter if it's beautiful outside that day) just commit to the DVD.
The next day commit to the bike for XX min, the next day do something outside etc etc.

Don't try to 'wing it' on a daily basis. Schedule what you plan to do - with maybe a backup plan if #1 becomes un-doable.

Planning will simplify your life and take some of the pressure off to motivate yourself in getting started. When you see it scheduled don't think twice about it just follow the schedule.

I went through a period of several months where I was burnt out on exercising and had difficulty getting myself to do it, but now I want to again. I'm afraid I don't have any advice or tricks except to hang in there and keep at it, you'll hit a good patch again. Maybe joining a class, so there are times you have to do it?

I think I saw it best put in a blog by one of our Spark members kind of like this - if you got a speeding ticket, would you spend the whole day just breaking traffic laws because of it, saying oh well, I might as well speed all day because of it? No? Same with eating right.... you don't blow the whole day or week over one mistake!

It's overall that counts, not the one doughnut or piece of cake you had! So suck up the mistakes, learn from them and move on!

By the way, that Spark member (thought I don't remember her name right now) had lost over 100 pounds, so she knows what the hell she's talking about!

For me - the streaks have helped - I do not want to break it so when I most don't feel like exercising - I commit to just 10 minutes - all I have to do is the 10 - and at 10 minutes it seems silly to stop. As stated before - you need to find what works for you - so try anyone's suggestion and see if that's what "sparks" you!

I ended that "start tomorrow" game by starting today. Each day is a new beginning, a chance to make a new you. You can start a new motto," Just for today." Tomorrow will take care of itself. You can do anything for just one day.

Start with small, baby steps. If you don't exercise, start by walking around the block ( or something else you choose). If you don't have time, try going to bed 15 minutes earlier, and getting up 15 minutes earlier. Then later, move it to 30 minutes earlier to make time for exercise. If you watch TV, you have time to exercise instead.

If you watch TV, then start by stretching while watching it. Get on the floor and move in ways that you do not normally. There are videos, DVDs, books and SP pages to show you what to do. I like Anderson's "Stretching" book and use it often.

Just for this one day, curb the temptation to have the second helping. Then, omit the sugar treats or "junk" foods with little nutrient value and high caloric content.

Just for one day make small changes. You won't notice anything different right away. Stay with it, be patient with yourself. You did not get out of good physical condition overnight, and you won't get into good condition overnight.

Small changes will eventually add up to something significant. This can be in any area of our lives we want to change, or any goal we set for ourselves. Make small change, set small goals to eventually change our lives, change ourselves, and move toward big goals.

As I've said many times, a person needs a driving force behind their want to do anything. If they don't have it, all the motivation in the world won't help them. That initial reason for doing something has to be stronger than the reasons for not doing something. It can be very silly or even unimportant to others, but it has to have meaning to that person.

Once you have found that reason you want to change your lifestyle to one of being healthy and active, then it is much easier to start NOW and not wait until TOMORROW. Keep the faith.

Get up. Get dressed. Lace up your sneakers. Once I'm dressed, the reasons not to exercise start to drift away. I agree with zorbs. Just get up and do it!

I would consider myself a yo-yo exerciser but I am in a huge rut!
I can't seems to jump back in ... I have a motivational quote all over the house ... the bike is tuned and ready; plenty of dvd or wii; weather is great ...but it's not them it's me.

I am a healthy almost 40 year old - not underlying health issues that would cause this issue.

I just need to .... ????????????????????
