I have a sit down job and I know it can be difficult to get in the daily step totals, I have a small office, I am the only one that works here, and I just walk in circles around a little cabana area outside my office. I am a property manager, and when one of my residents come in to check their mail or do laundry, they say "getting in your steps?" and we smile but I keep going!!

I live in Federal Way but work in Tacoma, so I go Mall Walking, I also belong to a community center with an indoor walking track, so I make sure I am walking at least 5 days a week!! Try to do Jazzercise and Channel walking as well.

Where do you live in WA?

I have a fitbit flex and I love it. Some days have trouble, getting steps in - goal is -10,000 steps and/or 5+ miles. One of the things, I also have trouble sleeping. I am amazed at how little I actually sleep and how many times I wake up and stir during the night.

I have a fitbit flex as it is like wearing a watch. I just wear it all day except in the shower. It can be used in the shower, but I figure why tempt fate? lol

One of the things I like about this is that my hubby got one as well. He always goes to bed earlier than me. So I check his daily score at his bedtime and then pull out the Kinect to add enough steps to beat his score.

I also have trouble sleeping. I am amazed at how little I actually sleep and how many times I wake up and stir during the night.

Some great advice here. I have not heard of the Ultra and bought a Target.
Good but not as good from what I have read.

I had exactly the same problem back in February. I lost my Fitbit Ultra. Unfortunately I didn't find it so I bought the Fitbit One. What I would suggest though, If you do buy a new Fitbit, go for the Fitbit Flex as it is a bracelet also, I am seriously thinking of buying it and selling my Fitbit One to replace the money, you would know straight away if it fell off. It is worth buying a new one when you can afford it, I felt lost without mine. Perhaps you could find a company that would spread the cost? I used a company called Ideal world here in th UK and was able to pay for my Fitbit in two installments, perhaps there is a similar company in the States where you can do the same? I hope this helps :)

I have had my fitbit zip for a week now and I love it. I love that it will sync with my phone and it really pushes me to get those 10,000 steps in.

This time I will do it for life.... Believe it, be it!

I almost bought the Jawbone UP because its sleep tracking is (according to many reviews I read) better than any of the other popular activity monitors. It can even wake you up at the optimal time in your sleep cycle. In the end I chose the Fitbit One because the Jawbone UP doesn't have a readout of your stats; you have to sync with a mobile device. I want that feedback at all times; it motivates me. My Fitbit One can be worn in a wristband at night to track sleep (which it does by tracking your motion), but it doesn't have the same 'awaken at the optimal time' feature as the UP. I LOVE my Fitbit One! I've lost 4 pounds in a month without watching what I eat!

I had the Ultra for about 6 months and just got the One this week. For me, it's great to try to beat yesterday's stats. As to waterproof - it's not. I thinks it's money well spent. I use it almost every day and it encourages me to keep pushing, park further away, and take the long way when on foot.

Good fortune has smiled upon you!
I lost my Fitbit Ultra at work while doing my pre-trip inspection (I'm a truck driver) and was lucky to find it at the end of the day on the lot. Missed it by inches with the trailer tires!
Lost ti a second time mowing the lawn and the neighbor's little doggie found it and chewed it up.
My wife replaced it with a new Fitbit One after 5 months and now I'm back on the train!
The One is far superior to the Ultra in durability. I prefer to wear it on my upper body on the collar, lapel, or above a shirt button.

Enjoy your Fitbit!

I have an update. I found my fitbit one!!! I had on my khakis before I left for the quilt show and then I thought if the parking lot is muddy, I will get my khakis muddy so I switched to jeans and left my fitbit on my khakis. Thank the Lord. I lost my steps today but didn't lose the fitbit. emoticon

I'm so sorry to hear that you lost your Fitbit. We've all done it--lost something important or expensive to us. I don't have one, but would like to try it. Money is an issue for me right now. I have just moved and the moving costs have strapped me for cash. Hopefully, in the near future. Sounds like everyone likes theirs.

I did my best today, tomorrow I will do even better.

Today I lost my fitbit one. I almost left it at home and saw it laying on my bed so grabbed it quick and hooked it to my jeans. BUT I apparently didn't do a good job of hooking it to my jeans because in Walmart, I decided to check my steps and it was GONE. I am heartbroken. I had gone to a quilt show earlier and to the restroom there and think I lost it there. I retraced my steps through Walmart and left my phone number at the service desk but I am thinking I will never see my one again. I also emailed the person who was sponsoring the quilt show at the local school but no answer yet. Do I spend another $100.00 on a new one??? I am on SS and really have to watch my money. I could just kick myself for being so careless. Thanks for listening. emoticon

Hi I am looking into the fit-bit. I had on my rewards for weight loss to get a pedometer and then my BF showed me the fit-bits today at target.

So I am debating on getting one of these now instead, and I really would like to get the fit-bit one with the sleep monitor cause i don't sleep the greatest.

can any one tell me the difference between fit-bit and the hear rate monitor one ( not sure if that is the technical name of it ).

Any advice or input would be great!!

I just finished setting up my fitbit! I am very enthusiastic about it. I could have saved $100 and lost weight on my own, but for some reason, if I have something to remind me that I am doing well, how many steps, etc, I seem to excel in weight loss. So excited for the next few weeks!!!

I ordered mine from Amazon and got it in a few days. Set it up and love it. I was sceptical at first as I usually get sucked in on some of these gadgets and then disappointed that I wasted my money on them but fitbit is worth every cent.

I love my fitbit and even sleep in it. I am 62yo and try to get at least 8000 steps a day and some days get 10000. I read somewhere the other day that ppl over 60 only need to do 8000 steps a day and I was sorry to hear that, it gives me an excuse to not try harder. lol I really think the fitbit keeps me motivated to move. I do at least 20 flights of stairs a day now. I got fitbits for my daughter and granddaughter and they wear them all the time.

I've been wearing my fitbit everyday. I think it motivates me to move more. I wore it on a cruise and even though I didn,t get in 10,000 steps everyday I logged a lot of stairs. A couple of days I had 30 flights of stairs.

Fitbit's website is free which is what I like about it. Your fitness minutes will automatically sync to the Spark site as long as you have it set up to sync.

Is there a monthly charge? I have a bodymedia and there was a 6.95 monthly charge added to my credit card each month. I discontinued using it and they still charged me even though I cancelled it on their website. The only way I got my money back was to dispute it on my credit card. And another thing, I forgot it one day and it said I burned 3200 calories while it was laying on my bathroom sink. So now I am gun shy with ordering these things. Can anyone help me out????

I have had my Fitbit One for two days now and I LOVE IT! My hope is that this will give me something to focus on, and will give me new motivation. For example, the first day I got it, I new I wasn't going to get 10,000 steps in, but then it really bothered me that I wasn't going to reach my goal for the day, so I went out on two separate occasions to rack up steps until I met my goal. It's nice because you don't feel like you have to do all your exercise at once, you can do a bit here and there, whenever you can fit it into your day.

I wear mine at my waist. I know lots of ppl wear theirs in their bra but I check mine off and on all day so waist works for me. I have also read that ppl have noticed their fitbits log steps while in the car but mine has never done this. I have a smartphone but am not very techie so have never tried. I love my Fitbit and work everyday to get at least 8000 steps. Considering I sit at a desk all day this is the best I can do most days. I do work on the fifth floor so I walk up and down this 2 or 3 times a day. I don't know if it is accurate or not but I have nothing to compare it to.

My Fitbit One should be delivered today, I am super excited but also very curious to see how accurate it will be. I have been using a Polar FT60 for over 2 years now (and it is still working like a charm, so I can certainly recommend those), and am planning on using both now. Hopefully the calories numbers won't be too different....

Where do you wears yours ?

And another question. I live on a "mountain" (I personnally would call it a big hill, but the locals would be furious with me if they heard ;-)), and have to drive down twice a day to bring and pick-up the kids to and from the school bus. The level difference is around 300m, the lowest part being at sea level. I read somewhere that the FitBit would consider this stair climbing, although sitting in my car I would not be doing any kind of exercise. Is that true ?

Last, but not least, does anyone uses it with an android smartphone instead of an iPhone ?

Thanks, Vickie - that's what I use to read also, so it should work for me. I see the fitbit site no longer sells the Ultra, so I guess I better get over to Amazon and order it before they are gone. I was going to ask for it for Christmas, but might be too late by then.

I don't think I'm synced correctly. The first day it didn't roll over to the next day. It started where I had left off the night before. Also the dashboard doesn't seem to be showing everything.

My fitbit ultra came yesterday and I'm still trying to figure it out. It syncs with the website but I can't figure out how to reset it to start over in the morning.

I got my FitBit One last week at Best Buy and I'm amazed at how quickly I got hooked on the thing!!! I love how it syncs with SP and find the 2 sites work really well toghether - I let FB site tell me my calories and how much to burn and use SP for all the food entry and they auto sync - makes it all so easy on me and with bookmarks I don't mind having to check 2 sites - the only thing that doesn't sync is the water part but that's not a big deal! I'm finding the strides seem pretty good so I let it do the calculating. It does not show a step count in the car at all so it is pretty smart with that and it really knows when I'm running up hill as it gives me more calories burned and sometimes even gives me a stair count if it is steep enough!!

I can't decide if I should order the ultra, or wait for the new device they have coming out. I want one so bad! I am using a cheapie pedometer I got from Walmart and it stinks!

I just got the fitbit ultra. It is on sale at Amazon. I set it up and connected it to Sparkpeople in less than 5 minutes. It was really easy.

I agree with Chesapeake60, I don't know the average pricing on the fitbits, but seeing them on clearance here made me perk up for sure! I'm going to eyeball those things till they drop again and pounce!

BD the reason it has calories on it before you put it on is because you are burning calories while you sleep. My understanding is after you have synced with your computer it has your wt so it knows how many calories you would be using if you were doing nothing. So from midnight till when you start wearing the Fitbit the calories listed are the ones you have used just living.

Yes, with the One coming out basically now, there is NO reason to pay $99 for the Ultra. There are any number of places discounting by $20-$30. Shop around before you buy if you want the Ultra. Or even wait a week or 2 til the One is actually shipping and the price may go down even more!

Random side note for potential shoppers, these just went clearance at the AT&T store i work at. $75 and no shipping time if it's on site. I don't know if that's national, but it's true of at least Washington state

Hi! I am just curious if anyone has had any trouble with their FitBit Ultra already having calorie counts on it before they've started wearing the device.

Mine is acting weird...

Thanks!

I got mine this week and it's a real shot in the arm for motivation.. today during my planning period instead of just sitting, I went out and took a walk around the school grounds. I love numbers so it's fun to see it mount up. I bought one for my husband too.. he's an engineer who loves gadgets, so he's into it too.. and I suspect we will be slightly competitive.

I foresee the doggy getting a lot more walks!

I had the exact same question after reading the reviews. I can tell you that mind does not count steps while driving.

I have a question for those of you who use/wear your FitBits all day. I saw a couple of reviews on Amazon claiming the FitBit continued to count steps even when they were drving?? Has anyone else noticed this? I didn't read all of the reviews (there are over 1,000 emoticon ), but I was just curious.

Thanks!

It does sync the food. I do it every day. As soon as you track it on SP it goes over to Fitbit.

I found the link.Thank you! It only syncs the exercising. I don't think it syncs the food. It's okay, though. I'll deal with it. I am trying the FitBit Challenge program for the free week trial. Can't wait to figure that out!

You can already sync with SP. Just put in a web search and you will find it. It works really well. I also have the think posted on the Walk it Out for Wii Team under announcements.

I believe I read either on another thread here at SP or on the fit it sight that syncing is already available. Wish I could remember where I read so I could link for you....... Unless I am dreaming which has been known to happen as well. Sigh.....

I just got my Ultra and used it yesterday. It's very motivating. I found myself going up and down the stairs at work just so I could reach my goal!! Love it. I wonder when we'll be able to start syncing with sparkpeople. I haven't seen anything and I've been looking. I don't like the idea of logging my food twice and I prefer SparkPeople because I have entered a lot of food data on here! Can't wait to figure that one out!

To the person wondering about Ultra support -- I had a Fitbit Classic for about a year after the Ultra came out, and it was still fully supported. My guess is that with the new Fitbit options out, they'll still support the Ultra... I THINK they're still supporting the Classic, too. :)

I'm PST!

Good morning,

I am intrigued by the Street Strider and may get one soon. Just watched The Street Strider Testimonial of Larry Brooks on youtube and found it very informative.. My background is very similar. I am a sixty four year old overeater with a history of athleticism yet still approaching morbid obesity. My joint issues (gouty arthritis, arthroscopy, muscle tears) make jogging and even walking machines painful. I use the eliptical machines and recumbant bikes and ab machines in the gym regularly to effect. The Street Strider appears to combine all these with the incredible added benefit of doing it in the great outdoors where I love to spend my time.

With God's daily help in arresting my addictions to caffeine, refined flour and refined sugars the cost will easily be met and the rewards will be wonderful!!!

Would like to hear from others, especially those who have taken the leap to ownership of this product and acceptance of responsibility for their actions.

With peace and hope. Over...

What you consume in private you wear in public!!

I'm sure it will. They would be pretty stupid not to. You can check fitbit.com. I'm sure they have a frequently asked questions there. Also, FitBit ultra is now going to be able to sync with SP, so I don't think they would blow a good thing.

I've been watching the sales on Amazon for the fitbit ultra. Getting really close to ordering one. Does anyone know if the ultra will still be supported when the new fitbit comes out?
