I do a lot of shopping at Lane Bryant. It's kind of pricey but if you use your credit card points, coupons and combine with a good sale, the prices drop to almost Wal-Mart prices. I love their jeans more than anything! Can't fit into ANY walmart jeans (and look good).

I found some really nice things for work at Dress Barn, including a perfect sleeveless black sheath, lined, from Jones for $75. The same dress sold for nearly $400 at Dillards. I bought a half dozen different jackets to wear with it for an average cost of $30 each. With matching accessories, I got a bunch of different looks.

I like Avenue, Catherines, Lane Bryant, Fashion Bug, Roamans and Woman Within. Plan to visit Torrid.com and HipsandCurves.com. On my own, I was able to go from a size 32W down to a 24/22W and from a size 5X to a 3/2X. Now, with Sparkpeople, my goal is size16/18!

Plan:
Move my body (30 mins per day, 6 days per week)
Eat my freggies (3 to 5 svgs per day)
Drink my H2O (64 oz per day)

When I cross over to the US I like the Croft and Barrow plus sized tops sold at Kohls. Has some success with pants at lane bryant.
In Canada the Reitmans plus size is reasonably priced and lots of options for casual and work. I'm not hot on additionelle - pricey and never quite looks right on me. I'm a 2X and 5 feet tall so its always hard to find clothes.

See my icon, the giraffe. I chose it on purpose since I am over 6 ft. tall as well as size 24 across the sholders even in my youth. When I can find clothes, Lane Bryant items do work. Mostly, however, I make my own slacks.

Flax!!!
Flax by Jeanne Engelhart. It's hard to find in stores; it didn't used to be, but due to the retail crash, it's now easier to buy online through websites like Cheeks Cape May (they have two enormous retail stores as well, in Cape May, NJ), 2 On Crescent, Patricia's of Hilton Head, and several others. Oh, and eBay - tons and tons of Flax dealers on eBay. Flax is all linen, and each season the company comes out with several new lines/sets of colors -- there's always a neutral set, and a bright set (called Flax Bold)...they have a line of pajama styles called UnderFlax, and also some stretch cotton for layering. I don't wear as much Flax when I'm smaller, because when one is smaller one has lots more brand options, but when I'm bigger (like now), it is my go-to company. The clothes are SO comfortable, and so gorgeously drapey, and so comforting, and they make me feel like a normal person as opposed to a cookie-cutter fat lady who has to wear the limited amount of styles that all the fat ladies wear because you can't be fat and have your own individual style - your style is "fat" (no offense, but I'm sure you know the feeling).

Flax has somewhat of a cult following - whenever I wear Flax wardrobe pieces, someone will stop me and say, "Hey, that's a Flax shirt, isn't it?" There's even a Yahoo group devoted to Flax.

If you like Flax, other companies that make gorgeous drapey clothing along a similar line are C.P. Shades, Eileen Fisher, J.Jill (as folks have mentioned - I love them!), and BLUE FISH, which is its own amazing amazing cult of amazingness.

I never have to go major clothes shopping for the rest of my life; I yoyoed so much I have full wardrobes from size 6 on up. When I reached my heaviest weights I thought I was not worthy of nice clothes, so I bought just a few pieces and wore them over and over again. They are so threadbare they are being made into cleaning rags. I do have a lot of very nice things under the plus sizes, and it is fun to pull an item out of the closet and guess how long it will take for me to fit into it. I progressed from 2X, 1X, 18, 16, and now am a 14.

Tracking my way to a new me...

I made the decision I'm tired of being overweight and I'm never going to return to the size I was before. I cleaned out my drawers and closet and got rid of nearly 80% of my clothing. I passed them on to a karaoke friend. About half of that was things I just never seemed to wear anymore. I guess I'm sort of lucky in a sense. Five years ago I lost 40 pounds and now those clothes fit again! My friends and I recycle clothing among ourselves. Though I'm the biggest, a friend of a friend passed down smaller sizes a few years ago and things that I liked that were too small, I stored in spacesaver bags. Last week I went through those clothes and had a pile of didn't really want to keep, still too small but keeping, and WOW it fits... I've also been perusing the clearance racks at every store I go to. I've been buying things a size or two smaller, in anticipation of more pounds melting away. But I haven't gone nuts with that, about 5 can't live without items in 24, 22 and 20. It's a wonderful feeling to put something on that didn't fit a month ago and find it's perfect now. I was at the dollar store of all places and they had long sleeve, short sleeve and print t-shirts for $1. Needless to say, I bought 1 of every size my current size and smaller. I strictly shop sales/clearance racks.

Nothing will change if you change nothing...

ASOS Curve!! They are based out of the UK and you can order online. The shipping is NOT expensive and items arrive quickly. I believe they have a warehouse in Atlanta beacuse I have returned items to that address. Their clothes are hip & fashionable. Be carefulw ith the sizing. UK size 24=US size 18. Be sure to read the sizing information carefully to see if they are using US or UK sizing when you visit the site.

I can honestly say "No Place" because I have not found a place with good clothes for plus size SHORT women like 5' me. I guess we don't exist in the fashion world. I was too ashamed to walk into a plus size store so I always ordered my stuff from Woman Within. But I now can finally buy at regular stores so I get to recycle my catalogs without reading them, hooray. My favorite regular clothes store is LL Bean- great quality and service.

size 14 isn't considered a plus size. I think the smallest size in plus size stores are 16. I know Jcpenney, lane bryant, fashion bug, Macy have plus size selection.

I'm a fan of DEB. Their plus size clothing isn't frumpy, and suits younger tastes. The prices are good, too. The next jeans I buy from there won't be from the plus sizes, though. The last pair I bought were a 14 (I'm just a hair under 5'4'', just so it's clear I'm not trying to be offensive to other posters who mentioned being a 14. I was a 24 at my largest.).

Also, Lane Bryant makes some cute bras, including some nice "plunge" styles. I like those because I often wear low-cut tops.

My friend, 14 is NOT a plus size - especially at 5"10", so consider yourself at or below a nice average size. Congratulations on being cognizant of watching that, however. Many of us are working down from a 24, 22, and trying to go on down to a 16.

It seems that so many folks are way too large, or way too thin. You are JUST RIGHT - in my opinion. Check with your doctor.

I don't know what is considered 'plus size.' It seems to be different at every store. I am a size 14, 5'10" and I love love LOVE New York and Company!!! Their clothes are flattering to my figure (hourglass) and modest without being too granny-ish. Still trendy, but not too tight or too loose. I also love Dillards - when I was pregnant I shopped there a lot in the 'plus sizes' because of how I was carrying my baby and I loved the selection. I have been told D.E.B. is a great store too, but we dont have them in my town. :)

I'm in Canada [noticed a lot of the places mentioned are in the US only]

In Canada I like Addition Elle. Penningtons is not really my style of clothing. Walmart also has cute things for plus size, not a HUGE selection, but the quality is okay and the styles are cute. Jeans are decent.

In the US [boyfriend is from Jersey] I Lane Bryant, especially for their bras. I'm also a die-hard Torrid fan. They have cute clothes and I love their shoes.

If you've got the money to spend, I highly recommend Cold Water Creek, Talbots and Elizabeth. I find that you definitely get what you pay for in regards to quality and fit. The fit from those manufacturer's is very flattering.

If you're on a tighter budget, I like Cato and Lane Bryant.

I really dislike OneStopPlus. They have a large selection of items, but the quality is crappy. I recently ordered a nightgown, t-shirt and a dress from them. All three looked cheap and and were paper thin.

One more thing....WalMart sells a lot of Just My Size items. They have some cute stuff - good price and decent quality. But beware, you'll need to try on everything before you buy it. I've got a 1X shirt from them and a 3X sweater. The 1X is just a tad too big and the 3X is actually too small. Go figure.

Happy Shopping! emoticon

Love this topic!!
My favorite place for plus-size clothes is Talbot's. I have a couple suits that are 20 years old. Talbot's style is classic so these items are timeless! Now if only I had an excuse to get rid of them by shrinking into the next size smaller, and smaller, and smaller!

Recently I purchased several items from OneStopPlus.com after seeing a 30% discount code online. I'l let you know how these fit in comparision to some of the other shops mentioned here.

I have always liked CJ Banks. They have true to fit sizes and the shirts don't shrink up. I am long-waisted and also am busty, so shirts can ride up and end up too short after a few washings.

Jones of New York. Beautiful, well made and well tailored, stylish. Expensive, though.

L.L. Bean for good quality sporty and casual.

CJ Banks, Coldwater Creek, Walmart's plus size department, Elisabeth, etc.

The BEST clothing brands though are the clothes you buy after you've lost a TON of weight! Don't give in to your fatness--keep working out to lose it!!!

It Is What It Is.... :)

CJ Banks, online, and watch for their amazing sales. Also, join their Friendship Rewards plan and get free shipping. Easy returns, great accessories.

I like JJill because they carry their usual items in plus sizes and I love their styles.
