30 DS has helped me lose 15 pounds. I am doing it in conjunction with weight watchers. It helps me feel super strong so that I am able to work out other ways that I couldn't before. I do it about 3x a week. and on other days I bike for an hour. I have a ton more energy because my muscles feel strong and capable. And she really works your core, which has helped my back feel better. I think it works!

To the poster who did mini shreds... What were your results like when you did the mini shreds? This is my first time doing the program and today was day 4. I have thought about the mini shreds but didn't know if the results were just as good.

I agree, any exercise plan works if you stick with it. Jillian's workouts are very intense, make sure you are up to it. Good luck.

So, quick question. The Level 1 10 days, Level 2 10 days and level 3 10 days routeen. Are these consecutive days? Does it not seam too much each day, when does your body get the chance to rest. Don't get me wrong I am interested in trying it, it just contradicts what personal trainers have advised me in the past. Anyone shed any light on this. Thanks in advance.

30 Day Shred is high impact cardio followed by bodyweight / and or dumbbell strength training (3-2-1....it's at least half cardio). The cardio ups the calorie burn somewhat. If the 30 DS diet has you eating less calories than your body uses during the day.....then yes, it works. Any diet that gives you a deficit "works."

GLMGLM asked if there was something that helped firm up faster - yes. Dedicated strength training is very efficient (save cardio for another workout). Progress from bodyweight exercise and light dumbbells to heavier weights. To shape your muscles, you need to challenge them. However, you cannot "spot" reduce. Your body loses fat (and existing lean muscle is revealed)...wherever it wants to. This is largely genetic. I lose fat in top first....and on the bottom last. Other people have a different experience. Just do the best you can.

I haven't tried her workouts, but if she works you as hard on those videos as she works those contestants on television, I doubt I would stick to it for very long. I like using the free tools that are available on the internet. There are plenty of things to try. Why pay for something you can get for free? Also, when people ask "Does this work? Does that work?" my answer is, "Maybe, but YOU definitely have to work!" There are no quick fixes or magic formulas.

We all get 24 hours a day. How we use them is up to us.

I'm a little late on the bandwagon but I'd just like to add that I also am doing 30DS right now - I was never large, about a UK size10 in most shops but just wanted to tone up and get fit! So.. I'm on day 2 of level 2 and have already lost half a stone?! I feel stronger each day and I am really enjoying it. Level 1 was really hard at first but I could definitely feel my endurance increasing over time and hopefully level 2 will be the same even though I did my first day today and thought I was going to pass out!

I want to share my story of how 30DS worked for me. I started 30DS back in the spring of 2010 at 183lbs (I’m 5’6” for reference), and it was the best $10 I ever spent on a DVD. Over the course of 3 months, I lost 30lbs, and was around 153lbs by summertime – went from a size 12 to an 8. I actually wrote down on my calendar the days I worked out with the DVD, and also any additional cardio I would do (and yep, I have no idea why I still have these calendars to actually reference to write this, lol). Over the course of the 1st month of starting the program, I worked out 23 days, with 17 of those days being a 30DS session, and the remaining 6 days being just regular cardio – walk/jog/elliptical/etc. The second month, I worked out a total of 20 days, with 10 of those workouts being 30DS, and the remaining 10 were regular cardio. The third month I worked out a total of 13 days, with only 4 of those days being 30DS, but all 4 days were double sessions (I would do like, level 1 and 3 on the same day, one right after the other.) As I moved into the 4th month, I started traveling more for work, so I was only focusing on doing cardio/weights in hotel gyms, didn’t do much 30DS, but was able to maintain my weight for about 2 years.

So, even though I did not do 30DS *every day* for a month, the program helped me get stronger and leaner, so that I could do other forms of cardio, and it really helped me get back into workout mode. I loved the intensity of the workouts, and the fact that they were so short…it was much easier for me to fit a 30-minute workout into my schedule! And man, if I had known about SP back then, I could’ve been tracking my food as well, and probably could’ve gotten even leaner! (I wasn’t tracking any food at that time, only eating smaller portions.)

Hmmm, in a way I feel kind of dumb for writing this, since I pretty much stopped doing all cardio and watching my nutrition in 2012, so I gained all of my weight back (and then some). But, I guess what I’m trying to say, is that I think it’s a great program, and I love how the workouts are short and intense! And I honestly believe that results CAN be achieved by using this program – heck, even if you don’t like the moves (or Jillian and her comments, lol), it still conditions your body for other types of strength training and cardio, so you can move on to different types of activity you do enjoy. :-)

Me too!!! I started on April 6 and have only skipped 3 days. I have noticed toning somewhat, but not nearly enough for the amount of workout I'm doing and the serious cutting back on my diet. I want firmer buttocks and less abdominal fat. Are there any other exercise programs that would tackle those areas of my body faster than the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred? I feel like instead of the 30 day shred it's the 30 day DEAD! I'm starving and working my butt off to no avail.

I did 30 DS last year and loved it! I lost 9 pounds. Didn't measure my inches but should've. I only did levels 1 and 2 plus Zumba. I still pop the DVD in sometimes even though I'm doing 21 day fix now.

Hello ladies, I am new to the forum and I also just started Jillian Michaels 30 day shred with my 11 year old daughter who is overweight.

I have been doing Jillian Michaels 30 day shred with weights for 3 days so, I am doing 2 wirkouts a day 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening. I love them both.

I myself onmy want to lose about 5-10 1bs, my goal is major toning. I am what you call skinny fat and that is caused by losing weight fast and only doing cardio with no weight training.

Jillian workouts are amazing and although I am only on day 4 of the weight shred I am starting to see a difference in my abs, and butt, arms already.

Not only am I doing two workouts a day, I am eating every 4 hours like I should and I have started taking whey protein before my workouts and after.

Along with the workouts, you ladies have to make sure you are eating clean. Lean chicken, fish, vegetables, and drinking plenty of water will get you where you are trying to go in losing weight.

My daughter had to make up her own mind that she wanted to get healthy and fit, now she has taken the steps to do so and I will be there working out with her 5 days a week.

Another piece of advice ladies, do not focus on the scale or your numbers so much, you will akways lose inches before you see weight loss.

Continue with this workout and eat ckean, you will shed.

Good luck to everyone

Hi Everyone,

I am planning to start the 30 DS today and wanted to see how things have been going for those who have already started. Does it really work? What diet changes have you made? I am hoping that this site will help keep me motivated and accountable. Appreciate your thoughts.

Enjoy the day!

I'm going to start the 30 day shred today not to lose weight but to get toned and fit as I'm a total couch potato. I have tried it before and got about half way through this time I'm hoping having other people doing it too will help :)

Hi Guys! I'm new to this but hope this forum and you guys will motivate me.

I did the 30 day shred back in November 2014 but unfortunately didn't manage to get to the end of the 30 days as I lacked motivation. :( However, true to Gillian's words, where I didn't lose weight, I lost loads of inches! (Woohooo)

When I eventually admitted defeat and realised I lacked the will power to continue, I started eating a lot healthier and started swimming which I find has helped but results aren't as fast as the 30ds, but in total since November ive lost about 10lbs and approx 20 inches around my body and have gone down nearly two dress sizes.

I am going to try the 30ds shred again and try my best to do the full 30 days this time but I'm looking for a 30ds buddy or just someone to share the moaning with! I've currently done day one and will try and do day 2 tomorrow. If anyone has any tips on how to stay motivated and last for the full 30 days please let me know.

Day 3 of level ,, I Started on 29th. Did on 30th took break on 1st and again did on 3rd. So 3 days completed.

Experience: 1st day felt like what the hack, i was dying to get the breath.. second day i was little bit easy but still dying.. 3rd day it was far better then 1st two days. Was able to complete all the exercise with minimum break in between.

But i tweaked the things a little bit.
Currently i am not using any weights. I wanted to do all the exercise for 1 week and then go with weights so that i don't end up with injury.

Also i try to involve some kind of cardio along with it. So i started with walking. Did approximately 4miles of walking before starting the exercise.

Looking forward to increase the miles more.

I did took my measurement before starting the exercises. they looked really bad :(

i was so sad looking at them .. what have i done to myself... and i need to change it...

Feeling good after 3 days ,,, that i am doing something...

Also watching my food habits... trying to take max of proteins,, may be that's why i am not able to see any weight loss... or it is too early to expect ;)

Hey pals ,, do keep posted your experience,, it gives motivation to keep going on ...

I love the 30 Day Shred!! I agree on supplementing it with some more cardio after. The cardio will feel more intense since your muscles are fatigued. If you don't see weight loss results, your fitness and endurance level will definitely improve!

Hi everyone,

I, like many other people, have started and stopped and started and stopped but never finished.

This time will be different! emoticon

I am starting up again today and plan to hop on the elliptical for 30-45 mins after each session. In the past, I have found that this really helps with the soreness. (i.e., i can walk down the stairs afterwards!)

I know most people see results in inches lost vs. pounds lost but I was curious if anyone out there has gone through this or is currently going through it starting out at 5'' 5' 180lbs.

I know we all lose different based on our bodies, lifestyles etc. but I'm interested to see what other people like me are seeing for results.

Thank you and good luck to all of you!

It worked for me in the past. an important step is not noe use the high calorie burn as an excuse to overeat. if you feel hungrier, eat extra protein, or vreggies. dont eat extra junk. also get in some extra stretching,

Don't forget to be awesome.

emoticon I lost 4 pounds in 4 days with the 30 day shred. I am nearly 19 years old and I used to regularly eat very bad foods. I would have some sort of chocolate everyday and I would order pizza and eat burgers and chips regularly. Today is my 6th day doing the workout however I missed yesterday because my thighs were in so much pain. I weighed myself before doing my first workout and I was 9st 10lb (136lb) and I then weighed myself again on day 4 and I was 9st 6lb (132lb). I think I have drastically lost weight because I cut out all the bad foods I was eating and have only been living off of chicken, fish, salads, fruit and cutting down my sugar to half a spoonful in my tea. I don't wish to lose much more weight I just want to tone up (especially my inner thighs!)

So far my thighs have gained A LOT of muscle, when I straighten out both legs I now have these massive bulging muscles...Does anyone else have this?
I am so pleased with how these workout has gone, It is really tough but just keep with it!
When you finish each workout you just want to get up and do it all again, it sounds crazy but it's true.

Good Luck!
It really does work a treat.
Just push yourself, you only live once.

I have done it and lost weight after only 7-10 days. do not use the high calorie burn as an excuse to eat extra unhealthy calories. You have to do the workouts with intensity and not phone it in as Jillian says.

i sometimes do mini-shreds only 15 days, 5 days at each level.

Don't forget to be awesome.

Hi there, I'm new to Spark and to exercise and a better lifestyle.

I've been doing the 30 day shred since 10.11.2014. I'm currently on level 2, I've just completed day 2. I haven't had dramatic weight loss but I have lost cm's and I guess that's what we're working towards.

I've only lost about 2.5kg's but in the first week I lost a combined total of 10cm's all over. I accidentally deleted my cm chart for week 2 so I cannot count up this week's loss but I can see a difference and am getting compliments. emoticon

I would say just stick to it and give the maximum effort you can per session, drink loads of water and make wise food choices.

What level of the shred are you on? Perhaps we can shred together?

Hey, it was not my weight that went down at first it was my size overall. You will actually gain weight but lose size wise. If that makes since. Just take your measurements and see. I was so frustrated i also took before and then week 1,2,3 pics before moving onto the next set. It does show results but like i said it take time like all good eating reputation and checking measurements. I need to get back on this plan myself how about we keep a check on each other and see how it goes i will start back today.

Hi everybody, i'm new to this, i'm not really an athletic person, i never liked working out, I'm 22 and i was about 17kg overweight, (37 pounds), last month i was at the doctors because i've been having really bad pains all over my body, i couldn't work or clean, i was doing bad on my studies, even to the point of not walking because of the pain, i've had pains before so i took pain medication which didn't help, turns out since my 15th birthday i'd been missdiagnosed with juvenile arthritis; 2 Months ago they discovered i was Hypermobile, something i didn't even know existed, i was in schock then i said to the doctor what do i do?, he said there's no medication or treatment, there is only one thing you can do: "excercise"
So i started looking for a program, and i found Jillian's fat banish, it was good for a month but all the jumping wasn't all that good to my body you know, too much impact for my hips in 1 hour, then i tried yoga, wayyy too zen for me, plus the stretching was making me to hyperextend, then i tried pilates, it's fine but i missed the screaming of jillian and all that energy she puts into the dvd's, so i decided to order the 30 day shred because what i really needed was to loose weight and get toned so my bones will "fit" better and the pain goes away... i'm now on day 3 and it's been loads of fun!
From this 2 months i've lost about 6kg, which is great but better than than my hip and knee pain is going away, slowly but it is, although for hypermobile it's hard for the body to heal from the begginer's muscle discomfort it's worth it!
I feel much better, and not tired at all, plus i get this mix of adrenaline through my day!

That's great news! Very happy for you! That's a good idea to stay on level one. Stay there as long as you feel comfortable. Even if and when you move to level 2 and feel like going back to level one, just do it and don't guilt trip yourself for it. Only you know your body and it need to feel pleasurable not a chore. Everything in moderation. :D it must feel so good to receive positive feedback from colleagues. Don't forget to compliment yourself too :) xx

Is there any way to modify the push ups in her 30 day shred? I have bursitis in my shoulder and the push ups hurt. I'm ok with the rest of the workout. Just the push ups hurt my shoulder.

Hi and welcome! Please do not be disheartened. There is no magic spell for weight loss so after 7 days you won't have lost lots of weight but as you say you are feeling good and that is the best way to start the second week when you are at the start of transforming your lifestyle. I would recommend adding some more cardio and strength moves to boost your efforts. Nothing too tough, just skipping or jumping jacks and your favourite floor and aerobics moves for 10-20 mins a day and then adjust as you progress. Coupling this with healthy food choices (I hate the word diet!!) will increase your success rates after another week. The best way to lose weight is at a steady pace so you can avoid the dreaded pounds that suddenly creep back. Don't deprive yourself of anything. Moderation is the key and by the sounds of it you've started really well! Weight loss is the long term goal, happiness and how you feel is the most important part of this process to harness right now. Then the weight loss and improved fitness and strength will follow :) congratulate your progress over the last week and start the next 7 days with a real boost. You deserve it!!! X

Good point about the calves. This workout doesn't really have any stretching for the calves yet works then pretty hard! During my first week this is the part of my body that has struggled with the burn afterwards and the next day. I would highly recommend adding in some specific calves stretches before and after the work out.

Yes it does work, but you have to put in the effort. I had to cut my last lot short last time as I damaged my calf muscles by overdoing it. I'll be starting it again. Everyone I've read about who has used her dvds do get results. This is my summer vacation work out work out as I can't take my kid to the gym :)

I saw some quick weight loss. and that is with taking some of the modifications. Don't use the extra exercise as an excuse to overeat.

Don't forget to be awesome.

Hi there, I am on day three of level 1 and I woke up this morning feeling a slight difference, in my stomach area (mainly the top of the stomach and the sides). I am incorporating this with eating between 1200-1550 calories a day (as this is the goal that sparkpeople recommended for my weight loss goals). I am also adding in reps of bicycle crunches and squats/lateral squats during the day to help top up the effort. In the past I have easily plateaued with exercise when I just carry on doing the same routine with mimimal/small effort. This is fine if you want to maintain but not if you want results. I say stick with it but only if you are prepared to really really push hard and put maximum energy into the 20 minute routine. Or maybe now that you are really in the swing of these routines, go back to level 1 and 2 and repeat them again but with the most effort that you could possibly squeeze out of yourself and complete them like a pro and see if that boosts the results. As long as you are eating and drinking right this should be a sure fire way (with some extra moves during the day to help boost the desired areas that you want to target) to getting results. Well done for getting to level three!

Hi there.
I'm on my last day of level 2, and I haven't seen any type of physical change.
I'm afraid when I finish level 3, there still won't be any.

What level did you guys see change in your body?

Basically i'm asking should I bother to finish and do level 3?

Hi There!
I started this yesterday and boy am I aching today. Not as bad as other works out but seems to work nearly all of the body even though at the time I didn't think it would. Very sweaty afterwards and good time frame and the 3-2-1 idea seems pretty good. I have dislocated my right knee twice and have read a review on this page saying that it is not good for the knee so am going to modify or look up alternatives for a few of the moves.
Will continue to report back on my progress and thoughts on the DVD etc

I usually put any of Jillian Michael's dvd's under "Circuit training (including boot camp workouts)" - since her DVD's usually follow that sort of exercise. :)

Yes and no. Personally I wouldn't use her videos, unless you like being degraded while going through the exercises. If you're pretty heavy...forget about anything past level 1. Good lord level 2 of the 30DS is stupidly nuts; the 3rd level...no way.

I did her program for 30 days, all on level 1, as even the 2nd level modified was way too intense. Know what happened? I was bed ridden for about 5 weeks with a severely messed up knee. No, this won't happen for everyone, but if you have ever had knee problems, I urge you to stay away from her videos.

Never give up; never stop trying.

From what I understand, it may about 3 weeks or so before you can see any weight loss result. So, don't be discouraged. Keep doing what you're doing and the pounds will come off. Probably by week 4, you'll notice some changes.

Hi, I just started the 30 day shred yesterday. I was just wondering if anyone else has just started and the people who are further ahead, just curious on your results and feeling so far.
Thanks so much!

should i aim at eating 1500 a day then? (i was wrong with how many calories i was eating in my earlier post. i found out i eat 1300 at most)

also, is 10 days in too early to expect some change in my body? ive been working out hard and eating clean but i see no real fat loss.. or does the weight loss come from level 2 and 3?

getting a little discouraged :(

Your body normally burns around 1200-1500 calories per day just by being sedentary and doing nothing. These calories are burned by your organs and everything your body needs to do naturally. If your body burns 1500 and you eat 1500 and burn 250 you will lose weight because you are burning more calories than the ones your body needs.

i have a question

i read that the workout burns around 250 calories (if thats right)
well im eating about 1500 calories a day (i eat clean, cut out my sugars.. counting calories..)

i thought losing weight is burning more calories than you eat, so how am i going to lose weight with this program?
