Hi everybody, i'm new to this, i'm not really an athletic person, i never liked working out, I'm 22 and i was about 17kg overweight, (37 pounds), last month i was at the doctors because i've been having really bad pains all over my body, i couldn't work or clean, i was doing bad on my studies, even to the point of not walking because of the pain, i've had pains before so i took pain medication which didn't help, turns out since my 15th birthday i'd been missdiagnosed with juvenile arthritis; 2 Months ago they discovered i was Hypermobile, something i didn't even know existed, i was in schock then i said to the doctor what do i do?, he said there's no medication or treatment, there is only one thing you can do: "excercise"
So i started looking for a program, and i found Jillian's fat banish, it was good for a month but all the jumping wasn't all that good to my body you know, too much impact for my hips in 1 hour, then i tried yoga, wayyy too zen for me, plus the stretching was making me to hyperextend, then i tried pilates, it's fine but i missed the screaming of jillian and all that energy she puts into the dvd's, so i decided to order the 30 day shred because what i really needed was to loose weight and get toned so my bones will "fit" better and the pain goes away... i'm now on day 3 and it's been loads of fun!
From this 2 months i've lost about 6kg, which is great but better than than my hip and knee pain is going away, slowly but it is, although for hypermobile it's hard for the body to heal from the begginer's muscle discomfort it's worth it!
I feel much better, and not tired at all, plus i get this mix of adrenaline through my day!

That's great news! Very happy for you! That's a good idea to stay on level one. Stay there as long as you feel comfortable. Even if and when you move to level 2 and feel like going back to level one, just do it and don't guilt trip yourself for it. Only you know your body and it need to feel pleasurable not a chore. Everything in moderation. :D it must feel so good to receive positive feedback from colleagues. Don't forget to compliment yourself too :) xx

Is there any way to modify the push ups in her 30 day shred? I have bursitis in my shoulder and the push ups hurt. I'm ok with the rest of the workout. Just the push ups hurt my shoulder.

Hi and welcome! Please do not be disheartened. There is no magic spell for weight loss so after 7 days you won't have lost lots of weight but as you say you are feeling good and that is the best way to start the second week when you are at the start of transforming your lifestyle. I would recommend adding some more cardio and strength moves to boost your efforts. Nothing too tough, just skipping or jumping jacks and your favourite floor and aerobics moves for 10-20 mins a day and then adjust as you progress. Coupling this with healthy food choices (I hate the word diet!!) will increase your success rates after another week. The best way to lose weight is at a steady pace so you can avoid the dreaded pounds that suddenly creep back. Don't deprive yourself of anything. Moderation is the key and by the sounds of it you've started really well! Weight loss is the long term goal, happiness and how you feel is the most important part of this process to harness right now. Then the weight loss and improved fitness and strength will follow :) congratulate your progress over the last week and start the next 7 days with a real boost. You deserve it!!! X

Good point about the calves. This workout doesn't really have any stretching for the calves yet works then pretty hard! During my first week this is the part of my body that has struggled with the burn afterwards and the next day. I would highly recommend adding in some specific calves stretches before and after the work out.

Yes it does work, but you have to put in the effort. I had to cut my last lot short last time as I damaged my calf muscles by overdoing it. I'll be starting it again. Everyone I've read about who has used her dvds do get results. This is my summer vacation work out work out as I can't take my kid to the gym :)

I saw some quick weight loss. and that is with taking some of the modifications. Don't use the extra exercise as an excuse to overeat.

Hi there, I am on day three of level 1 and I woke up this morning feeling a slight difference, in my stomach area (mainly the top of the stomach and the sides). I am incorporating this with eating between 1200-1550 calories a day (as this is the goal that sparkpeople recommended for my weight loss goals). I am also adding in reps of bicycle crunches and squats/lateral squats during the day to help top up the effort. In the past I have easily plateaued with exercise when I just carry on doing the same routine with mimimal/small effort. This is fine if you want to maintain but not if you want results. I say stick with it but only if you are prepared to really really push hard and put maximum energy into the 20 minute routine. Or maybe now that you are really in the swing of these routines, go back to level 1 and 2 and repeat them again but with the most effort that you could possibly squeeze out of yourself and complete them like a pro and see if that boosts the results. As long as you are eating and drinking right this should be a sure fire way (with some extra moves during the day to help boost the desired areas that you want to target) to getting results. Well done for getting to level three!

Hi there.
I'm on my last day of level 2, and I haven't seen any type of physical change.
I'm afraid when I finish level 3, there still won't be any.

What level did you guys see change in your body?

Basically i'm asking should I bother to finish and do level 3?

Hi There!
I started this yesterday and boy am I aching today. Not as bad as other works out but seems to work nearly all of the body even though at the time I didn't think it would. Very sweaty afterwards and good time frame and the 3-2-1 idea seems pretty good. I have dislocated my right knee twice and have read a review on this page saying that it is not good for the knee so am going to modify or look up alternatives for a few of the moves.
Will continue to report back on my progress and thoughts on the DVD etc

I usually put any of Jillian Michael's dvd's under "Circuit training (including boot camp workouts)" - since her DVD's usually follow that sort of exercise. :)

Yes and no. Personally I wouldn't use her videos, unless you like being degraded while going through the exercises. If you're pretty heavy...forget about anything past level 1. Good lord level 2 of the 30DS is stupidly nuts; the 3rd level...no way.

I did her program for 30 days, all on level 1, as even the 2nd level modified was way too intense. Know what happened? I was bed ridden for about 5 weeks with a severely messed up knee. No, this won't happen for everyone, but if you have ever had knee problems, I urge you to stay away from her videos.

Never give up; never stop trying.

From what I understand, it may about 3 weeks or so before you can see any weight loss result. So, don't be discouraged. Keep doing what you're doing and the pounds will come off. Probably by week 4, you'll notice some changes.

should i aim at eating 1500 a day then? (i was wrong with how many calories i was eating in my earlier post. i found out i eat 1300 at most)

also, is 10 days in too early to expect some change in my body? ive been working out hard and eating clean but i see no real fat loss.. or does the weight loss come from level 2 and 3?

getting a little discouraged :(

Your body normally burns around 1200-1500 calories per day just by being sedentary and doing nothing. These calories are burned by your organs and everything your body needs to do naturally. If your body burns 1500 and you eat 1500 and burn 250 you will lose weight because you are burning more calories than the ones your body needs.

i have a question

i read that the workout burns around 250 calories (if thats right)
well im eating about 1500 calories a day (i eat clean, cut out my sugars.. counting calories..)

i thought losing weight is burning more calories than you eat, so how am i going to lose weight with this program?

Today is my 3rd day of level 2 Jillian Michaels 30 day shred. I feel AWESOME. i weighed in after my 10 day level 1 and lost a whopping 8 pounds from just doing 30 day shred and two pounds from my cleanse two days prior for a total of 10 pounds. im amazed i knew the 30 day would tone me but to actually lose so much so fast. i can see and feel the diff already. My son and Hubby are rocking out to it too. After the 30 day shred im off to T25 yes T25 is going to bring me home to my goal weight of 135. i hope i can find at least one person to fight this fight with me.

I don't usually write on these things but I really want to help out a few people if I can because I have found a program that finally worked for me. I have tried them all and spent a lot of money but only really ever got short term resutls. Well, sometimes good results but i could never maintain.

I stumbled accross Lean and Lovely by Neghar Fanooni and I have never had such good and consistent results http://891a8dxdsbn14s5mf0k-2z0s4g.hop.clickbank.net/

She has a whole video library of the exercises and I was able to do them at home (im not a member of a gym). I can't believe how much I learnt about nutrition as well. I used to eat the complete wrong things that everyone told me was 'healthy'. Neghar really teaches you how to eat for fat loss and toning and makes it yummy. I did her program and now I seem to be able to maintain it, of course a little discipline but I really feel like I finally found something that works from someone who is not just out to take my money, she really cares.

Here is the program, i want everyone to be able to get to this point! http://891a8dxdsbn14s5mf0k-2z0s4g.hop.clickbank.net/

If you want to email me at lucythomas786@yahoo.com feel free if you have any questions or want some support. I'm happy to help!!

I add some elliptical, jumping jacks, 5 min of HIIT (usually shadow boxing). Whatever it takes to get my calorie burn to my goal for the day (at least 500 burn). Takes about an hour total. I am only going this hard core until the wedding but I do this 6 days a week.

Eat clean, drink lots of water (I drink about 80oz) and your belly should start to shrink!

I saw my very first evidence of abs poking through my lower belly this week! I'm on Level 3 day 5

Just ended a 30- day trial membership at Curves that played the Julian M video exercise tapes 3x daily. I found the constant "You can do it" cheer overly annoying. Also, was not impressed with the circuit machines combined with the floor exercises. There is not enough time to
get off the mat and get to the next machine.

I had 5lb weights (10lb total) but had to get some 3lb ones because there were a couple of exercises I just couldn't do with the 5lbers (lung/anterior arm raises for example). No shame in starting out light and working your way up.

i plan to buy 5lb hand weights for the workout because thats what everyone seem to suggest
but is it 5lbs total or 5lb each weight = 10lbs?

I am on Level 3 and after level 2, I had lost 10 inches all over! Only like 2 pounds...the scale never moves for me. Still, the inches are significant! I started getting compliments at level 2. My stomach has flattened out drastically. I do add extra cardio, I usually burn 500 a day (250-280 of that comes from the shred)

I drink protein after every workout and have had ZERO DOMS (that horrid muscle pain the next day). I feel like I worked out but no pain.

I also switch between 2 lb and 5 lb weight, just depending on what my body can handle. I try to push it with the 5 when I can but there are certain things, like the v squats, that I could do with 5!

I totall fell off the Jillian wagon... I did 30 Day Shred level one 4 times, over the course of 2 weeks, and now I haven't used it in 2 weeks. Need to try again!

Started the 30 Day Shred last Thursday. I'm 49 and very out of shape. I've been treadmilling since January and was ready to kick it a notch. I haven't seen a lot of results after only 5 days but I am almost to the point where I can get all the way through without stopping and that is a big win for me.

Oh my gosh - I can't believe how out of shape I am. I used to be able to do the almost hour long No More Trouble Zones killer workout, and today I did level 1 of 30 Day Shred after not working out in a long time... man, I was dying and had to take a lot of breaks.

So, I'm excited to see where I am in a couple of weeks. My plan is to do 30 Day Shred for 30 Days straight - since it's only 20 minutes I don't think not taking a day off will be a big deal (but I'm sure things will come up). Then, after 30 days, I'm going to go back to No More Trouble Zones and see how I do... If I tried to do that video right now I think I would stroke out after 5 minutes.

Catherine :)

I did the 30 day shred workout 4-5 days a week for 10 weeks and now I rotate the DVD in 2-3 times a week when I don't have enough time to go for a long run. The workout is simple (but in my mind) effective. Not all the moves are exciting (lots of squats and planks or push ups), but the cycles go by fast enough to stave off boredom. During my 10 week shred period I lost 6 pounds and inches of my bust (1 inch), waist (1.5 inches) and hips (1.5 inches). I also found my arms and legs to be noticeably more toned and felt a lot stronger. I think this is a great workout for someone who is in moderate shape and wants to tone up. I am not sure that it is the best workout for someone who wants to lose many pounds or someone who is very fit and wants to lose that stubborn last 5 pounds. To see the pounds fly off you will need more cardio in your week. To get advanced conditioning results you will need a longer workout. In my opinion it would be tough to lose more than 1 pound per week on the 30 day shred without following a low calorie diet at the same time. Depending on your weight and how hard you push, each 30 shred workout should allow you to burn 240-340 calories. So yes, the program burns some calories and builds muscle and strength, but you will likely not lose 10-20 pounds a month by simply "shredding".

If you watch the "recommendations" in the video menu, it states that you should try to do it 6 days in a row. In any exercise routine, you should always take a rest day to allow muscles to recover some and because you know..we're busy people, we need a day off.

I have had this and other JM programs for years. The only thing that ever confuses me is if you really are supposed to go 30 days in a row? Are there any rest days? I like to exercise everyday, but want to make sure this is what is recommended. How did you all go about it?

I have a friend who does various JM. videos including 30 Day Shred and I use to pick on her because I couldnt stand JM.( because she always seemed so fake on the Biggest Loser and also that she will put her name on any product if there is $$ regardless of what it is) but I have to say that the progress and transformation she has made over the past 4 months doing JM. is simply amazing. I would definitly recommend trying it.

I did the 30DS last summer and really loved it. Lost about 10 pounds and got much stronger and firmer. I just started it up again and realized I missed this workout! I also love that it is something you can do in a short period of time so it is easier to fit into a busy schedule. I use five pound weights. I also have her NMTZ and I love that one as well.

I have been working out with a trainer twice a week. We started jog/walking about 6 weeks ago. I really need something to do on my own between sessions other than the 2 days of walking I do. This sounds like it might be a good next step for me.

I've only been doing the program for 3 days and I've already lost a pound. Seeing that has really motivated me to keep working out and eat healthy.

I'm currently on day 29 of 30DS. I've seen a huge improvement in my arms and my love handles are no where near the size they were last month. I am also trying to eat healthy and run for about 3 days a week.

I've done the 30 Day Shred on and off for about 2 years. I can say that every time I start back up, I get that first day soreness but it does go away after 3-5 days.

I am starting it up again for July. I will do it every day and with my 3 days of Zumba I already do.

I think the key thing that we have to remember is these people are trying to sell their DVDs. So that's why she has on her DVD cover that you can lose UP TO 20 pounds. So if you lose only 5 or if you lose 15, she technically is correct because again, you can lose up to that amount. Doesn't mean you are going to lose 20.

I did 30 Day Shred pretty consistently a few years ago and saw some toning improvement in my mid-section, which has always been my problem area. I felt it was a quick workout that worked everything you should be doing (cardio, strength, abs). I always felt stronger after a workout was done.

I haven't done it in awhile, but know if I'm short on time or want to get a good workout in 20 minutes - it's definitely my "go to" DVD. I really only stuck with Level 1 (some Level 2), and thought that Level 1 was the best. I never completed the full 30 days, but do recommend the DVD to friends.

I am on day 7 of the 30 day shred. I already lost 6 lbs!

I combined this with really healthy eating, no processed foods, lots of fruits and veggies and whole grains. I only drink water.

I lost one dress size already! It was hard on the first day but I kept pushing myself and I sweat a lot! I have to keep drinking water during.

My arms are getting toned and so is my back, those back rolls are almost gone.

I use 5 lb weights for my workouts.

If you look on amazon there are TONS of 5 stars....i'm on day 2 of the Ripped in 30 and am hoping doing this every day (except one day a week) will work for me too. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around doing an intense workout every day instead of taking a day off every other day (like I'm used to).

Thanks. I'm only looking to loose 10 lbs. I'm 5' 6.5" and 135 and 48 years old...so have a lot of hormonal stuff going on! I've always eaten healthy and not a lot, so I can't adjust that too much - people say I eat like a bird! I'm thinking by the end of the 30 days I will definately notice a difference!

It's just like a lot of fitness programs - if you do it consistently and also watch your food intake, you'll see results. I have done it a couple times; I didn't lose a crazy amount of weight, but I definitely felt stronger and more toned by the end.

You lost 10 pounds in the first month. Did you gain a few first and then start losing? If so, when did you finally start losing?

depending on your fitness level - (mine being low, when i first did the SHRED) - You'll definitely get out what you put in. Jillian is tough, but hard work does produce results. I did for a month and lost mostly inches and a few pounds, but by the end of 60 days - I had gained some muscle and was able to actually do a pushup or two! emoticon
