Look into finding a doctor or a weight loss center that has an metabolic rate analyzer. Our company has one and it accurately measures what you burn in a day. From that machine it tells you what you should target daily both in calorie intake, and burning through exercise to lose weight heathly.

I'm not sure that the BMI provides a good measure of health for those under 5'0.

Spark's approach to a calories burned target is based on you coming up with a target for each how much time you think you can sustainably devote to exercise each week, and Spark will then take this level of activity into account when coming up with a calorie burn target, and an intake recommendation consistent with this level of activity.

Also, I'm not sure that 10x you target weight is the best way of calculating an intake. www.sparkpeople.com/resource/calorie_calcu
lation101.asp
has a more detailed explanation of your overall calorie burn, and what you need to fuel your body. fortunately, Spark will take care of all the math for you - just ensure that your Weight Loss and Exercise Goals (accessible from the LH side of the Start page unde the My Goals section) are up to date, and Spark will come up with a recommended intake that is consistent with your needs.

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

Actually, no. That's not how you calculate things.

On Spark, if you tell it how much you want to lose, by when, and how much you're burning, it will calculate for you how much to eat to achieve those goals with those factors.

Using weight x10 is not a very good method at all. I would input your goals in Spark and use that instead.

As for "to burn", the reason Spark does it this way is that there isn't an optimum level. If you want to burn a lot of calories every day because you're really active, you love working out, and/or you have a very active job, you can. If you want to get half an hour a day of mild exercise, you can. What will make or break your weight loss is having your nutrition match what you're doing with your exercise. Not the other way around. :)

I want to try to get to 135 by the end of Dec. How many calories should I be burning?

My BMI is 45.40. I am 4'9". I am at 148.8 right now. I Calculated the number of calories I should eat by the weight I want to be at X 10 and came up with 1,350. calories.

Just don't know what I need to burn. Can anyone help on this?

Thank You

Mediterranean Chicken with Orzo (Chef Meg's Makeover)
Submitted By: CHEF_MEG

This healthful Mediterranean dish got a makeover from Chef Meg. She lowered the salt content and added parsley and capers for freshness and flavor. She also reduced the cooking time to keep the orzo from getting too soft and used plum tomatoes instead of canned tomatoes to keep the dish from getting too thin. Try serving this with steamed broccolini. Full Recipe
