For Iphone users, get the Pandora app. I don't listen to really poppy upbeat music, so I don't have any on my Iphone/pod, but the Pandora app is awesome because it plays random, but great work out music. try it if you haven't.

Thanks for JogTunes.com link! I notice that it lets me look up what I've already GOT a recording of, too, so that I can mix a workout of songs I've already purchased the right to listen to! The BPM (beats per minute) function lets me select warm up and cool down songs, and while I'm nowhere near able to DO the workout I can plan, this gives me something to which I can aspire.
Thanks again for a link to a useful resource!

If you go to Pandora.com and enter one of your favorite workout songs, listen for awhile and you'll get more suggestions that are similar beats. If you especially like or dislike a song, click that button on that song and the music will become more and more exactly like what you're looking for!

I feel my ipod is severely lacking in Lady Gaga and Mika songs, so tonight's goal is to download some and add them into the playlist. Some of my fave workout songs - while great - have been on my playlist for going on 2 years now...

I really love rock/metal on the elliptical. All-time favorite is "Slither" by Velvet Revolver. It has a great beat for interval. Also love Metallica: Sad But True is great for level 16 using as a stepper.
Not usually a metal head but it makes my workouts go so much faster!

When it comes to strength training the heavier and more intense, the better for me. Prodigy, Rob Zombie, stuff like that. Really intense beats, harsh voices.
Cardio, I'm good with whatever is upbeat. Lady Gaga is always a huge pick me up! :)

Back when I was able to do a full cardio, I really liked to use the Brainsync workouts. They had several advantages for me. First, the tape or CD includes its own warmup and cooldown, and that was useful for me, because it's easy to forget. Second, the tapes varied in speed according to where you were in your training, and third they included a kind of zone in frequency that was helpful in getting the runner's "high" that is a physical incentive to keep exercising.
Another thing I've enjoyed is using "beach music" with a pace that suits my training situation. That music style works for me because it's the one that appeals, on an emotional level, to the kid in me who wanted to have fun in about the middle school years.
The important thing is to pick what appeals to you and include warm up and cool down songs in the mix.
Best of luck!

Lately Flo Rida-Right Round. It's harder and has more energy than Dead or Alive's original but I still like them both. I also love both Supermassive Black Hole (from Twilight-the baseball game) and Uprising, both by The Resistance. All are good easy-intermediate speed walking songs (if you walk to the beat).

I like metal, hard rock - it's all about the drums.
It's just like dancing - Slow drum beats, no matter how uplifting the song, will lead to slow steps and slow motions. Fast drums means faster motions and a harder music means tighter and more aggresive muscle motions. Think about it. (Learned this from a DJ who was also a fitness instructor when I worked in a bar once.)

But if you are looking for holiday tunes, Trans Siberian Orchestra's "wizards in winter" is a great move tune, "step into christmas" by Elton John, thinks like that.

I am learning to listen to music while I am running... it still messes up my breathing! Also, I get a little paranoid when I can't hear the noises around me... I've been chased by a german shepard before and got bit by a chow chow... So if I listen to music I can't hear the animals coming to get me!
My music choice though is emo punk... anything happy with a fun beat. My husband listens to Elvis...
