This thread was locked up for the longest time. I could post to others, but not this one. Any insight?
Anyway, I am getting my bike out & starting to ride it more vs my golf cart.

I'm a wimp in the cold. I like going for the occasional winter hike but I have to move my daily runs inside to the treadmill. Luckily my apartment complex has a basic gym with a treadmill, bike, and free weights so I don't have to pay for a gym membership that I can't afford!
Also, bringing your own dish to holiday gatherings helps a lot. That way you fill up on your healthy dish and eat a lot less of the unhealthy stuff that other people are eating. Last year I brought a huge kale salad to Thanksgiving. Other people ate it too and thought it was really great, even if it wasn't traditional Thanksgiving food.

Parking far away at work and walking back to the building.
Exercising for 10 minutes in the morning. Finishing out the remainder of my 35 minutes in the evening.
Taking the stairs instead of waiting for the elevator at work.
Cutting out the excessive junk food late at night.

Great ideas! I think that's a good idea to get outside and get fresh air atleast 4 times a week. I read that it helps beat down the winter blues!

I entered a contest at my gym. I got weighed in yesterday and will be weighed again in January. If I maintain or lose (I am aiming for lose!), I am entered for a chance to win 1 year of personal training! Now that's a prize! So that's the goal over the next couple months. With that in mind, I've set January 15th as an assess progress date. I will still be weighing myself weekly (and only weekly), but that will be an extra checkpoint.

I have cold weather clothes and gear so I can keep riding during the winter. Luckily, our winter normally includes only about a week of sub-freezing temps, and we don't normally get ice or snow in large enough amounts to really hinder riding, so it's good. I just try to keep my ears, face, hands, and feet warm. It's invigorating to be out in the cold! Start in the fall to acclimate yourself!

I joined SP for one! I am measuring my food, tracking every single thing I put in my mouth. I am trying to do at least 20 minutes of cardio a day, now that I am 2 weeks into my program. I will be going sledding with my daughter as soon as the snow hits, and maybe making snow forts, and snow people for fun. I am unemployed, but just because I can't pay for a gym, doesn't mean I can't be active!

Organization is a great suggestion! Also, keeping my workouts the number one priority on my calendar, after God.
I am an organizer and like to have a plan in action. I'm hosting Thanksgiving so that puts me more in control of food choices. I recently read a book about the process you body goes through with certain food types and it makes you think every time you put something to your mouth! I also have done visual boards throughout rooms in my home - Kitchen, Scrapbook room to remind me about healthy choices.

Taking the "fitness challenge" at the local gym - to take 3 classes a week during the holiday period. You get the instructor to initial your card to show you took the class. I think it runs from 11/11 - 12/23. After that, I hope to have made it a habit and just continue through the rest of the winter.
This aint no walk through - it's the real thing. Make it count.

i bought a bikni at a discount price, $1.50 for a top and $1.50 for the bottom. (they are onsale on sears.com) i hang that up as my motivation. So when it comes to thanksgiving and christmas dinner i can think about how that extra helping of food will make me fall behind from fitting into the bikini. and i also created this mentality that the really bad foods like cake and fried foods will kill my insides, and who wants to eat food that kills you on the inside? i know they wont kill me when i eat them, but if i keep eating that kind of food, it will eventually kill me. as my mom keeps telling me "a moment on the lips is a lifetime on the hips!"

Well, I workout at home on my elliptical and with DVDs so nothing will change in that aspect but I am also planning to do only a 1/4 amount of the Christmas baking I usually do. I wouldn't even do that but my daughter (5) would be disappointed if I didn't do at least a little. lol

When it gets too snowy to get to the gym it's good to have some workout DVD's to use. I like all of Jillian Michael's DVDs and The Biggest Loser DVDs. Netflix is really great because you can just rent different workout DVDs to be delivered to your house. I have a Wii Fit now which I'm excited to use during winter.

fortunately where I live the winters are pretty mild, other than a bit of a rainy season. I have plenty of house projects to get to before next Summer's heat arrives. I don't do well with the heat. The house projects keep me moving so I don't feel as guilty about not doing as much "formal" exercise as I should. If I stay busy I tend to stay away from unhealthy eating habits. Those of you with harsher winters, indoor house projects are good, especially those that require some muscle use and movement, maybe cleaning out the garage, painting the bedrooms, stuff like that.

I signed a new three year contract, and got myself a brand new iPhone. I've never had anything this technologically futuristic before.
The sparkpeople app (and thank god it's free!) is amazing and so simple to use. I find it easier to manage my food tracker on my iphone than online.
Also I've been downloading movies to my phone and taking it with me to the gym in my apartment. I can watch Gossip Girl while I work out on the elliptical for 40 minutes. Its great!

When that cold weather impulse comes to insulate and hibernate I have a two-pronged attack:
First, I always at least on delicious soup option ready to reheat in the fridge (always one I made myself).
Second, Wii fit. Promising myself to at least do a body test every day does plenty to keep me in line while I stay warm. In it's own special occasionally supportive and occasionally berating way - it helps.

In addition to doing an 8 week challenge on this site that works like the biggest loser, I am also doing "skinny school" at my hair dresser's shop...you put in $5 a week and weigh in...whoever loses the greatest %age of weight at the end of 12 weeks wins $1000.00!!!!!! There are also monthly prizes...

I've decided to paint the inside of my house rather than bake (and eat).I'm keeping a few sunny hues on hand and when I feel the baking urge I go paint the wall with a small brush (I'm almost done with a bathroom:)By the time spring comes my house will be freshly painted and I'll have avoided hundreds of extra calories!

I will continue to do what I am doing right now. I will track all of my food and exercise and follow my healthy living habits.

i am already begin to train myself to be in the house with nothing to do except be on the domputer and clean, it's a very good way to learn how to deal with sadd. since i'm around food too then i keep vitamin water in the fridge in case i get a dweet tooth. they really work and they aren't an energy drink.

I will be paying myself $5.00 for every pound I lose and with the money will be able to buy new spring wardrobe. Everything is too big now but I refuse to spend money I don't have yet.

And more exercise! It's not negotiable! I have a library of exercise DVDs and in-home weights and other equipment. I live in a 4-season climate and do not like to exercise in the cold.
