I've done the Shred several times, but I confess not for 30 days straight and mostly Level 1. I usually do it every other day and do other fitness activities the off days.

I'm 69. I can do Level 1 without many problems, but of course very sore if just starting out.

Level 2 is awful for me and I can only do some of the exercises correctly--some I have to change a little.

For some reason Level 3, which I've only done a few times, is easier for me than Level 2 and I don't have to change it much.

I don't plan on using it lose weight, really, since diet is the most important thing for losing. I use it to get in better shape. I can definitely tell a difference in my body if I am consistent.

Been fighting a sprained ankle that's still not right after a year and a calf pull so I haven't done it for several months.

Hi, I just started day 1 level 1 today. I have been wanting to try it again. The last time I tried it I was unable to complete the whole DVD. But this time I am determined to keep going for 30 days whether they are consecutive or not.

It was tough today. But I do remember Level 1 more than I thought. I wanted to post on here to keep myself accountable.

Good luck!

I just did day 1 level 1, today!
I have to say it burned a lot! The cool-down portion helped with the soreness instantly. 7 hours later I did and hour of Zumba!

I haven't used mine in A LONG time, and broke it back out to start fresh. MAN, my upper arms felt it. *laughs.* But it's a GOOD kind of pain, as weird as that sounds. :)

When I did the shred...legs and arms were like jello. Couldn't believe how weak I was. I guess at 50 I should expect a little of that, but I'm not that weak anymore!! My arms and legs have definition now. It's been about a year since I actively did the workout. Now I do all sorts of spark videos everyday. Every once in a while I throw it back in the mix. Just love her workouts!

Funny...same thing happened to me with the knee clicking...my guess was that I was not in correct posture for the squats. Did you notice if your form was good?

I just did day 1 and was only able to do 10 minutes before I collapsed! She is a killer!! And my knee started clicking when I was doing squats. It didn't hurt but it grossed me out and worried me a bit, but back at it again later today or tomorrow!

so proud of myself to say that i finished my last day today of JM 30 day shred!

Wow I am so happy with the results. My fitness has significantly increased, and this very noticeable in other exercises and fitness classes!

I haven't yet weighed myself - but after 7 days I lost 2 pounds.

My husband has been commenting that my thighs look slimmer (as this is where I store most of my "stored energy") :D

My core is amazingly tight and firm! I can see slight definition now as opposed to before where it was just a flat stomach.

I know for sure if I had stuck to a cleaner/healthier eating plan the results would be more visible. However I cannot complain at all!

I really appreciated the motivational words that Jillian used - especially in level 2 during the pendulum lunges where she reminded us of why we are doing this, think of "jean shopping" or "swim suit shopping" !

I am heading out tomorrow to purchase Ripped in 30 days! Hopefully my meal planning will be a bit better planned!

I am on day 3 of level 2 of the 30 Day Shred. Wow - bit of a step up from level 1 but a great challenge. I am really enjoying this workout - I find it hard to motivate myself to work out for long periods so this is ideal - Jillian works you very hard and is very motivational. emoticon

I am now on day 8 of the 30 Day Shred and I am loving it!! I get up every morning before work at 6.15am to complete the dvd (not on the weekends!!!), then have a relaxing bath and get ready for my day. I feel doing the exercise first thing in the morning really sets me up for the day, I have found myself less tired and more energised.

I weighed myself on day 7 and had lost 7 pounds!!! This REALLY works!!! I am so happy with the progress, after this dvd is finished I will definitely be purchasing another Jillian Michaels dvd.

The first day was really hard and the next morning I was having alot of trouble walking down the stairs. I would say to everyone who is starting out the dvd, just keep with it and work through the pain!! Once you have done it for a couple of days your body is used to it and no longer hurts.

I hope I keep up the weight loss!!

Thanks xx

I just did this dvd for the first time this morning and I loved it. I was not familiar with Jillian but had heard that she was tough, but her style in this dvd was perfect for me. She was firm, but I thought very supportive and likable. I enjoyed working out "with" her.

I am on Day 5 of Level 2 and loving it. It is a HUGE challenge for me, but not so much that I can't do it. Level 2 is way harder than Level 1, makes me a little nervous for Level 3. emoticon

I was VERY sore the first few days of Level 1, but I pushed through it. She says in the beginning do it everyday, don't stop if you're sore. For me it took about 3 days, but it did pass. I started on a Thursday. Friday I was sore, Saturday I had trouble moving LOL, but I did it twice that day and then took a break on Sunday. By Monday I was good to go again.

The first week I lost 2 pounds and 2 inches, last week I didn't lose any weight BUT I did lose 5 inches. It definitely works, if you do the work. emoticon You must also eat right though. I am religious about watching my calories as well as doing the DVD everyday, if there's a day I know I won't be able to do it, I do it twice the day before. It's a commitment that you have to make.

I'm very excited to see the end result and keep going with it until it becomes easy and then I will move on to another one of her workouts. emoticon

If it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you!

Never trade what you want the MOST for what you want at the MOMENT!

I'm not trying to look perfect... I just want to feel better, look great, know I'm healthy and be able to ROCK any outfit I choose.

I had completed the 30DS a little over a year ago and lost 2-3 in from my waist. Unfortunately, after breaking my wrist shortly after I had to stop exercising, then life gets in the way, and well, over a year later, I am back at it. I also had done her Ripped in 30 (MUCH tougher than the 30DS I think). I am currently doing both DVD's so I don't get bored with either. I do the 30DS for about 5-10 days, and the Ripped in 30 for 5-6 days. I'm on Day 5 L2 with 30DS and will start level 3 on Ripped next week. Because your endurance gets better as you progress with these, I felt like the levels got easier. Those that are doing it, stick with it! I am hoping I can see some results soon. I need to lose just a couple inches by my sister's wedding beginning of May. Not really watching what I eat, just trying not to eat so much and make a few healthy changes. I'm a mother of a 2 year old so my time to exercise is limited, which is why I love Jillian's DVD's the most.

I just finished the 30 Day Shred and I wanted to let you know that I did it religiously every day and as for my eating habits- I didnt change them much, i wrote down what I ate and I thought i was trying to watch what I ate and smaller portions and such. I think I was overeating sometimes bc I only lost 2 pounds on it( I didnt count calories). BUT i did gain muscle mass for sure and I felt more toned and I lost in the last 2 weeks 4 inches on my tummy! What the scale says doesnt always mean your not doing well! Hope this helps!!!

NIKKY 8535

I had done this DVD few month ago (first time and never finished it due to some reason) and when I did it on day 1 L 1 I was sore for almost 5 days. I could not even get up from bed for 2 days. It was my first time doing any strength exercise though. Now I had start back again. I was surprised when I could do the jumping jacks at the beginning but when I did jumping jacks and jump rope back to back then I sure had to hold my breath.

I am definitely going to finish my 30 days this time (no more using family problems as an excuse). I saw that everyone is talking about L 2 so will see how hard it is when I reach there.

NIKKIBEALER has given us really good review about this DVD that it do work. Let's get in to shape together..

I did it religiously for about two months along with perfect pilates a nd Jillian's yoga DVD. I lost 40 lbs! 20 min in morning with 30 day shred and alternate the other two in the evenings and 6 days a week. I went from a 16 to a size 8.

Hi All, I just joined Spark People so I could chat with others about 30 Day Shred & learn more about peoples' experience/results with it. Most of the posts on here are from folks just starting. How has has it been for those of you who stuck with it?
Yesterday was day 2 of level 1. I have a lot of weight to lose & I'm really really sore!
How many times a week is everyone working out w/ 30 Day Shred. Is anyone alternating it with other workouts? Good luck everyone!

Just finished day two, level two. OH MY GOD! Level one is a cakewalk...seriously, I feel like dying! I'm so glad I decided to wait to start level two... I feel like i'm going to pass out and I've never felt like this, even when I used to swim 5-6 ks a day. Crazy workout... hoping to finish it so i can move on to insanity!

Hi SHANTEJ1,

I started the 30 DS yesterday too. I am really hoping to stick to it all the 30 days and not give up in between...Did you have sore calves from all the jumping? Mine hurt like hell. Oh well, maybe I should just stretch more. The stretches in the video are certainly not enough...

You're only ONE RUN away from a GOOD MOOD.

I use circuit training in the tracker, it is very close to what you burn. I finished level 1 start level 2 tomorrow. Kind of nervous about it!! I dont know if I can keep up, but i want to keep challenging myself!

Hi JoyKat! I just started JM 30 day shred last night; any idea how many calories you burn? I don't know what to add to the fitness tracker. Oh and if it's any consolation my daughter is now 14 and I have 65 pounds to lose!!! :)
good luck!

Hi all!! I just started 30 Day Shred last night! I am so nervous about doing it tonight considering how sore I am already, but reading the post from the person who was on day 4 and stating it's getting easier was VERY encouraging. I have about 15 lbs to lose. It's VERY stubborn baby weight from when I had my daughter, nearly two years ago! lol. I have a cruise to go on in Feb for my 30th bday so I'm hoping some quick results from this workout (even if its' just a few lbs) will give me the motivation to stick with this weight loss thing!! Anyways, just wanted to introduce myself! I'm going to be checking this board as well as some of the others continuously to keep motivated :)

Just finished day four level 1 and I feel AMAZING! I'm thinking of moving up to level two on day six because my muscles don't hurt anymore and I'm barely out of breath. Any advice? I really love the 30ds, I have so much energy during the day, sleep less and am overall happier!! LOVE IT!

Today is day 4 of level 1 30ds for me. I really like how encouraging Jillian is and how she keeps you focused and motivated to push through right when you feel you can't go on. I am really looking forward to doing the workout tonight! :)

I am a 47 year old Mom of 4 who started JM 30 day shred - level 1- 4 days ago with my 18 year old daughter, Caitlin and it's fantastic! Kicking our butts! We heard about it via my 27 year old daughter, Tiffany who lost 35 lbs on it! Tiffany and I have tried Weight Watchers, Herbalife diet pills, Zumba classes.. so many things to lose weight and she found JM 30 day shred for $9.99 at Target and along with eating right/watching her calories, she looks amazing! Seeing her wearing a fitted bathing suit and shorts for the first time (her legs and butt were always to big for her to wear shorts she said) at the beach was so inspiring! Everyone kept complementing her on how great she looked. So, Caitlin and I jumped on the band wagon and are completely dedicated to losing about 40 lbs each, but 20 lbs is a great start! My husband Robert, who has a beer belly, but is fine everywhere else, is out of shape (297 lbs) and not used to too much exercise, is doing it also and has been on it for 3 days and he wants to lose 97lbs - but 20lbs at a time is a great goal! It's really exciting as the days increase, the easier it becomes! Our muscles are getting stronger and stronger. The first 3 days we were very sore especially in our quads.. It was murder sitting or going up and down stairs or just walking! LOL But, today on day 4.. It doesn't hurt going up the stairs and going down isn't so bad either :) We plan to stay strong & focused on losing, so we are tracking our weight, exercise, and food calorie efforts on SparkPeople and weighing ourselves & doing other balance & core games, tracking our weight, inches lost, calories lost on our Wii game machine as well. It's nice to have a couple pools in our complex at our disposal as well to mix things up! I feel better, stronger, my hubby says my belly is going down and I see his going down also! So keep it up ladies and gents! If you enjoy yourselves and have a partner that you are accountable to and vice versa, that helps alot too! Stay strong, put up visual stimulation also.. Post a visual board on your fridge or in your bedroom/bathroom or all 3~ showing that female 6 pack you want or the bathing suit you want to fit into, or just a former picture of you at a healthy stage in your life etc. I am a photographer and visualist.. so it helps me alot! Good luck to you all and I plan on posting pictures when I start seeing more exterior results :)

I've been doing 30 Day Shred for months now. I had to stop for a while because I sprained my ankle (not while doing the workouts). But I've lost 20 lbs! It does suck having to do them every day, but there were days where I didn't work out and on those days, I ate less (above 1200 calories, of course). Jillian has this formula I got from her book that tells you how many calories you should be eating to lose 1lb a week. I don't know where I left the book, but I'll post the formula as soon as I find it. Anyway, it's been working! I've been losing 4 lbs every month, and if I keep doing what I'm doing, I should be at my goal weight of 125 lbs by December! Anyway, what motivates me to do the workouts is the timing. I tell myself, "It's only 20 minutes-30 with the warm up and cool down. Also, as the workouts keep getting easier for you, you'll start feeling stronger and more confident. You'll feel like you can do and conquer anything! Hope this helps! Just see it as a stress reliever, too. Good luck!

What's the difference between 30 day shred and ripped in 30?

Right now I'm on and off working on ripped in 30, along with a few other workouts just to mix things up. I *think* I'm slowly losing weight, because I know I'm also watching what i eat and everything, and trying to take in alot of water, but at the end of the workout it doesn't always feel like enough...So sometimes I do 2 different workouts a day to compensate. Should I be doing something different?

I started it back in May and I just felt like I was unable to commit to doing it everyday, other excuses, blahblahblah, so I started it today and am actually going to do it for real this time! I was looking for a discussion where others had started it so I could find some motivation.

I've been pretty dedicated to going to the gym while trying to lose weight, but it's surprising to still feel worn out an hour after I did my first day of level one!

On my 1st Day today. :)

Does anyone have an idea how many calories do we burn on 1 session for the 20mins Level 1 workout? I tried to add it to my fitness tracker but it seems that 30 Day Shred is not in the list.

Please help? :)

I was already using 5lbs (I don't have 3lb weights). I am going to try level two tomorrow and if that doesn't work, you're right, I will start adding them up. Thanks!

Jessalyn, if it's not enough after doing P90x, try doing the whole DVD at once, or level 2 & 3 together. There's no need to do it exactly as intended if you're not a beginner. Also, you could raise the weights from 3-pounders to 5-pounders.

I just started 30 day shred about a week and a half ago. I haven't been using it as my only workout- so I have done it about 4-5 times now. I run or do other workouts on the other days.

My problem is that I am not sore. My abs and muscles don't feel like I've done anything. However, my lower back gets sore (I think I arch my back too much during the squats). Any adivce?
I am concerned that having done P90x that this workout won't let me work out enough to make a difference. I will try level 2 tomorrow.

Hi Thorn111, I am doing the 30 day shred for the last month and a half. I found it very hard at the start as I have never worked out with weights before and even the cardio got me. Only thing I sailed through was ab section!! I have managed to stick with it though and can feel my body shrinking. The results and the fact that it is such a short workout is what keeps me with it. Still find the plank work very tough in level 2. I have only done this workout. I don't do any other exercise at all. Stick with it. It is worth it

I am new to Sparks so not really sure if I have responded correctly :)

I just started the 30 DS last night. My goal is to do Double Days for the next 30 days with CrossFit at night and the 30 DS in the morning.

I really really enjoy the 30 DS and I love how quick it is. Its a great morning work out. I am thinking about starting Level 2 on Monday.

Has anyone finished the 30 DS yet?

Blue, great to hear it is kicking your fit boyfriends ass!! When I first got the shred I sat and watched it through and thought I would be able to do all 3 levels back to back. How wrong was I??!!! Level 1 was sooooooo hard at the start. I am on my second round of it now and do level 1 then level 2 then level 3 instead of one level for 10 days. I like level 1 days now!! Keep up the great work everybody. It is tough but worth it. emoticon

I'm on day 5 of level 1 on the 30 DS and I'm loving it. I can really see the difference in my ability from the start. My boyfriend who regularly exercises is doing the challenge with me and I'm pleased to say that it is kicking his butt as well! I put down on my fitness track 250 calories as an approx for the dvd.

Good Luck everyone we can do it!!!!

I started the 30 DS yesterday. So today I did my second session of the 1st level and I'm sore all the way down from my thighs to my calves! It's crazy that the 20 minute work out that she has us follow along doesn't seem that intense but really is. And at first I didn't know if I would like her because I've heard things about how rude or load (yelling) she can be, but as soon as I started the DVD and she was encouraging me to keep going she instantly became my best friend. I just focus on what she's doing and telling me and push through it. I'll put an update on my weight and inches this Sunday. Stay strong to all of you out there that are trying to accomplish an amazing body like me! emoticon

It is hard, but it'll be so worth the 30 days if you stick with it! I have done level one for like 5 days and it is getting somewhat easier, but it still not easy by any means! Good luck!

Lollielou, it is tough isn't it? I started level 2 4 days ago after doing 10 days on level 1. Done it for 3 days. Hated it so much that I moved onto level 3 yesterday just to mix it up. None of the levels are easy but then what is easy in the beginning??!! I have never done training with weights in my life and it is very tough. I used only 1 pound weights for most of level 1. Hope you keep it up. Good to hear other people struggle as much as myself with it. It will all be worth it in the end :)

I just tried the 30DS for the first time. I haven't done any strength training for a couple of months so I used my 3 pound weights. I could not make it all the way through the workout without stopping to catch my breath and I cannot do a single push-up. It was hard and my legs feel shaky and I sweated a lot! Love it!

Great to see all you people found this tough. I got the 30DS and bought set of 3 weights to use with it. When i took weights out of the box I thought sure that small one ain't gonna do much but I'll start with it anyway. Thank God I did!! There is no way I could have used anything heavier! I only did level 1 day 3 today. I am proud of myself for working through the soreness. I hope I keep this up. My weight is different every day. Was 150 yesterday and 152 today!! I would love to get to 140 if possible. Have been doing tae bo for a year and lost 9 pounds. I know it's not much in a year but I'm not the best for sticking to eating right. Life gets in the way sometimes and you only live once right?!! Anyway, I have started this hard workout and I am doing my best to stick to weight watchers plan so hopefully this is it for me :) Anybody else just started??

This is an awesome support page :) I am on day 12 of the 30DS and have done level 2 3 times but have gone back to level 1 between each one as it hurts lol. I have lost 1 kg but that could be more the improved eating :) I feel a lot more energetic and my clothes fit better.

Log it under "add cardio" and type in circuit training. I just did level one and timed it---it is 25 minutes w/2 minute cool down so I logged 25 min circuit training.

Make sure knees arent going over toes during squats and side lunges, use your butt and put weight in heels to help you avoid knee discomfort. You will be amazed how many more reps you can do too!

I cant find it anywhere either. Maybe under calisthenics (thats what im putting it under) or look under insanity bootcamp/beach body i saw something similar in there. This program is good but cake compared to insanity and so much more doable. Have been doing 30 day shred on and off for couple yrs now. Its good! Definitely builds endurance too and if you wait a couple hrs after you will not believe how hard you can work on the elliptical or running. Its amazing! 3 hrs after 30 day shred i do 20 min on elliptical level 10-15 no prob!!! (im usually at level 5 or 7) its my new routine :) Dont forget to stretch! i lost 2 lbs since sat (total burn 600 a day) :)))) This rocks!

For people who do not see results with the 30 day shred in less than 7 days bare in mind two things:-
1. diet must be part of the weight loss plan
2. it takes on average 3500 burnt calories to lose a pound of fat, that is 500 calories a day less than you current intake. So cut down about 300 calories in your meals and do a workout that burns 200 calories a day.
It is easy to track, try getting a heart and distance monitor and work out your calories burnt.

I started off last week of January on the 30 day shred. I have lost about 17 pounds to date. But this is based on eating no more than 1200 calories a day and doing the 30 day shred in the morning and a light 30 minute elliptical slider or swim in the evening.
My whole intention was to boost my metabolism so I wanted to incorporate exercise twice a day as I have a desk job and literally sit all day.
Breakfast is the one meal you should never skip. It is a kick start to your metabolism, which determines how you burn calories.
Now eating waffles and pancakes and cheesy omelets is not a healthy breakfast. Try oatmeal with no sugar, egg white scramble or Special K and low fat milk. Also try to eat as much lean protein and veggies as you can. I have basically cut my carb intake by 80%

How is your progress so far? I just started today with her 30 day shred. I like it.. definitely broke a sweat.. A little rough on my knees..but one is having a moment. It has nothing to do with her program. I do workout.. I am at a plateau and trying to get off it.

Hope you are doing well.. Wish me luck.

Great thanks for the reply. A member here said she found it on net flicks. I'll have to try to find it on mine and look into it.

I think these are very motivating. Not intimidating or belittling. SHe just tells you to push a lot, and that results don't come for free... that kind of stuff. And I will tell you, these workouts work! They are hard, but worth it!

OK, I have to ask....(at risk of being booo-ed) How is Jillian during this DVD? I mean her attitude? Is she inspiring or does she get in your face and yell. I know there are so many good comments here, but sometimes her aggressiveness is a downer for me. I used to like her a lot. Then I watched her on the Doctor's TV show and just started turning her off. She was in a person's face screaming about dying because of his size. Don't get me wrong, I think she can be motivating but to me that's too far. So are the DVD's good at motivating or are they intimidating?
