I have three bridesmaids all of which are not skinny but have different figures. My maid of honor is short and chunky, first bridesmaid is a little taller and curvacious, and my sister in law is tall and thick. I am letting them pick out their style of dress in a particular color that I choose because since each girl has a different body type and has different comfortability levels I want them to feel just as pretty as me. My sister in law has picked a long flower one shoulder dress that is absolutely gorgeous on her, my maid of honor said she would like something shorter but not to short and strapless, I think she might go with a high low dress, and my other bridesmaid said she would like something with a sleeve that's not long. I still get to decide what they wear but at least I will know that each one will feel beautiful and comfortable.

This is the dress my maid of honor is interested in:

Idk if my other bridesmaid will go with this dress but she did say she liked it and I tried it on its absolutely gorgeous even as a wedding dress:

I like the v neck and knee length.

I think this dress is very flattering for many body types and it goes up to size 26

Its not v neck but its covered up.

I think that empire waist is flattering on all body types

Or if you picked out a strapless dress and they ordered a shrug to cover their shoulders

Maybe you guys will have a suggestion for me then...

I have a couple of bridesmaids who are literally runway model skinny and built like 12 year old boys, and I have a couple who are well over the 200lb mark. Any ideas for flattering dress styles that will look good on everyone? I know that the mismatched dress thing is "in" right now, but I don't really like that look personally. I'm thinking a modest V-neck, about knee length so that no one feels too revealed. What do you guys think?

This is something I'm trying to keep very much in mind as I look at bridesmaid dresses. I have 2 bridesmaids and a junior bridesmaid (my stepdaughter), and I want them to be comfortable and hopefully be able to wear the dress again in the future! I also don't want to pick out horribly expensive dresses (I'll be buying one of them after all), as it is my bridesmaids are coming from out of state to be at my wedding, I don't need to make it any more expensive for them!

KATAWESOME,
That is TERRIBLE!! I'm sorry that you are being put in that situation. As a bride to be, I (personally) am going to let my bridesmaids pick out their own dresses!

Hang in there!!!

That really sucks I am currently working on finding dresses to look nice on EVERYONE as I have small bridesmaids beside one who is in the 300s so it should be interesting looking for dresses to fight the sticks and the friend with a little more cushion but try talking to her I don;t know her personality but it shouldn't hurt.

I'm lucky in that my sister has chosen a very flattering style, but not so lucky that the dress runs a bit small so the one ordered for me (and then shipped as I live overseas) is too tight. So now I am on a crash diet, which I have never had to do before. :(

Hopefully it will all work out for everyone!

It is very trendy to choose bridesmaids dresses that aren't exactly the same. One popular way to do that is to let each bridesmaid choose her style within a specific color. Most shops have several styles that can be made from the same fabric. Perhaps you could sell her on that idea, especially since she is choosing expensive dresses.

Good luck with that.. I had a very hard time with my bridesmaid dresses and unfortunately my braids maids are not skinny at all! The prices were ridiculous so I ended up finding out if they had dresses of their own.. it comes out they did in the colors I wished them to wear!

So who knows the alteration idea seems to be the best advice given so far and I would take that up and see if that's allowed! Also, most of those dresses are strapless, see if you can get a wrap too, those are cheap lolol

I like DONTGOAWAYMAD's suggestion of asking about an alteration or something to help your case. Unfortunately, it is your friend's wedding...and apparently, she's not making the wisest choice of dresses. When I got married, I had one attendant (I was simple like that), so my friend and I just went to the dress shop and picked out what looked good on her. Personally, I like something more flowy...I think it's more feminine, but people have different ideas.

You have to be you. The current YOU is the friend of the bride...not the stick-version of you. Being a bridesmaid is rough. I'm learning...I'm in a wedding this summer.

I suppose you could talk to her privately and ask if she'd be willing to let you have the dress altered to fit a little more loosely. Maybe she would consider the possibility of a slightly more modest or flattering cut/style of dress in the same color? I don't think it would hurt to ask, just be prepared that she might say "no."

Ugh...that sucks. I hate short, tight-fitting bridesmaid dresses. Not a good look. I agree that you'll just have to do the best with what you're given. It is her day & it is just a day after all.

I'm just not giving up on me. I will never stop trying to be healthy, no matter my failures and shortcomings.

We've all been in the boat where a bride picks not so flattering dresses for her party. Guess what? It sucks - but it's her wedding.

Let this be inspiration for you to lose what you can before the wedding and a guide on what NOT to do for your future nuptials!

Be happy for her that she is getting married. Buy some beautiful shoes to accompany the dress, get your hair and make-up done to your liking (as long as this all complies with the bride-to-be's wishes) and just try to enjoy the good time!

Ok, so we went bridesmaid shopping, and I had to deal with a hand full of girls who think they are oh so huge without any sort of curves what so ever. I however, I know I need to lose weight, and where as I want to lose weight I don't think feeling horrible about myself is the way to go about that. The dresses she decided were options are for, frankly girls who have great stick figures. They are short short, tight fitting dresses, and they make even the skinny girls look like they are bigger than they are. So now I'm up against a wall where if I don't lose weight, I'm going to look...beyond horrible for the low low price of 300 dollars. I know it sounds selfish, but I really can't be happy about this...
